hey tangled web, do you guys rent out corsets? i'm assuming bodices, but corsets are what i'm wondering about. I absolutely love them-so comfy! I've never really looked around your booth because i'm such a sewing geek that i make all my own, and i don't really go in to browse around so that i don't get in the way of people who really are going to rent from you. I have no corsets at all. They could be something that I may consider in the future, but until now I have stayed away from them. The folks who vend them seem to have only corsets to sell. I don't wish to cut into their sales area. I may ask them, because I think that if I have a few it may just help people to try them and fall in love with them. That way they will purchase from them later. I'm not sure. You are always welcome to come into the booth and hang out when we slow down. We usually have snacks, like fruit, veggies and cheese etc. for our friends. We are usually past our rush by 2:00. Stop by anytime to introduce yourself and say Hi. Mitch. You know I just thought of something to the one who's looking for a corset maybe if it's possible you could ask someone who sells the if you could have one to wear as a way to promote the business ? I've heard it done before with other things.

hmm...its a thought. the only thing i wonder about is that they tend to be a bit protective, and i have no idea how they'd feel about a day's worth of wear on one of their corsets (you know, sweat and all). it's worth a shot though-thanks for the idea!
rush's mostly over past two...*makes mental note* cool thanks tangled!!!! i'll be sure to stop by.

I heard that only one person should wear a corset because as you wear it, it conforms to your shape. Thus it is uncomfortable for someone else to wear.

May I suggest a thing before all are dropping their hard earned coin on corsets? (Although, by all means buy a corset, rent one) One of the truths I have learned in my many years of being rennie is: YOUR SHOES SHOULD BE THE MOST EXPENSIVE PART OF YOUR COSTUME!
You have your entire life to acquire corsets and swords and that nifty mask that you just HAVE to have. BUT it's your feet that get the abuse from the rocks, mud, sweat, and general weight. I have to throw a lot of my faire shoes away this year cause I wore the tread right off them.
I've REALLY small feet and faire shoes often don't make shoes that fit me. But right now, Son of Sandalar (if I spelled it correctly) has my full endorsement. Although scaboot.com have OUTSTANDING costumer service.
Corset welts a lot easier to heal up and get over than foot injuries. (And with a good friend, and some thread you can make over any costume.)
Trevor, have I gotten through to you on this point yet, Monsieur loafer-wearer? (tee hee)

Yes...I agree...I finally broke down and purchased a pair of Son of Sandlar boots. They weren't terribly expensive ($225) compared to custom boots ($1000+), so...yes...money well spent for boots that will prolly last 10+ years. My first pair, Renboots ($125)(garbage....)...only lasted 2 years.

i'm a fan of dreamshoes slash bald mountain. i have a pair of their nazareth sandals that i love to death- got em in 05 and they have barely any wear. I'm probably going to use those till i can save enough to get a pair of boots from them. I agree-feet come first. I blister easily-found that out the hard way. *grin* oh, i love corsets, but i think i'll try and get a few practice ones made up before i get one from people who actually know what they're doing with them. I'd love to get that one from the vendor with the map engraved/burned/whatever in the leather-absolutely awesome! though i may ask them if they can customize it and put a map of middle earth on it instead..... that would be kickass. (yes, i'm a huge LotR junkie. I'm enough of one to try and teach myself sindarin

I just got my fabric and such for that red/black dress i've been yapping so much about. You guys can be sure that i'll have a few pics up when i can-i'm still in cutting out fabric phase right now. I can tell you though, 9 yards of brocade is really, really, really heavy.
Who else wants to brag about their garb?

Trevor, have I gotten through to you on this point yet, Monsieur loafer-wearer? (tee hee) Oh I hear you. Would love to have a nice pair of something that looks period. But right now, it is an issue of funds. I was barely able to afford the $30.00 for a new pair of work boots. My entire set of garb cost me less than $100 (that is including my sword, and everything else on my belt) Finding appropriate footware that both fits, and is in line with my budget has been a bit difficult so far.

hmmm...my forte is making garments, but footwear i'm not much good on. I can't make it and i'm not really a resource to be going to. I got my pair of dreamshoes in 05 and have been wearing those since. Though i do believe that they might possibly make boots, i have no idea how much they'd cost-mine were 50 some when i got them.
Lady Cat, do you need help with a girdle still? What kind is it-one that's functional or one that's decorative?

Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who mentioned/recommended Son of Sandlar. Their website evidently isn't fully functional right now, but I requested a catalog....my husband needs to invest in some good boots for a renaissance wedding he's in this summer, and he was going to see what was available at GLMF. If we can fin something better quality that is still affordable....that would be great.

I'm having a new dress made for my brother-in-law's renaissance wedding....my husband is a groomsman, so I wanted something that would kind of match what he will be wearing (brown pants, blue shirt, possibly some sort of doublet...). So......... I'm using the pattern on the left, and changing the sleeves. The bodice will be done in the brocade, the rest in the silk. I can hardly wait....... (I might be able to wear it to the faire by the end of the season!)
