Hank: I sure do hear ya about those directions. Mark and I travel the wilderness on foot, read all kinds of maps, and want standards like "North", "South", "East" and "West" along with route numbers or road names. But let me say, I've been through Corry and that area many times, and those might be the best directions you'll be able to get. We found that in PA, they just don't put up road signs or route markers. Trying to save funds maybe. You'll just wander over the bucolic hills on a strip of blacktop and hope to heck you're on the right route. Everyone already there knows where they are, and since there's not much incentive to bring outsiders in, they don't seem to care. Those kinds of directions are the only kind I've been able to get from anyone who lives around that region: "go to the big barn and turn left. . ." And, actually, the fair IS in someone's backyard! I spoke with Roxanne and it seems the faire is being held on a farm property which they rent. They raise sheep. Sounds like fun. Think of it as an adventure, Hank. Yes the dealership is probably on both sides of the road. Cauton: it is easy to take a wrong turn in Cory, especially crossing those RR tracks. Sometimes you have to turn around to see a route marker from the opposite direction.

You've done a great job of summing up how things sometimes are in rural PA. I know. I lived there for a few years. Even in a little place like Springfield, there are things that aren't on any map. Roads that aren't actually roads. They have no name, and don't get any maintanence, but they are used all the time by the locals. And the real roads do usually have signs telling you what they are. They put them at the begining of the road, and the end of the road. Any intersections between there though, are more than likely not marked. And most houses have no street numbers on them. Heck, I can send my mom a letter and just put her name and city/state/zip on it and it will still get to her. Don't even need to put the street or number on it. The post office knows where she is.

Trevor and Olive...Well guys, this should be fun. I will admit I have not been to that area of Pennsylvania in a good long time, (make that sometime in the 70's) but PA. at its worst probably can't compare to Boston, Mass. which doesn't believe in wasting tax payer dollars on frivolous things like road signs. We were last in Boston 37 years ago ( if I never go back, it will be too soon) on highway U.S. 1, which runs from the Canadian border to Key West , Florida. You come to an intersection (any intersection) and there is no signage telling you which way the highway goes, right, left, straight ahead? Who the Frack knows! For all of the historic significance of Boston, Bunker Hill, The Old North Church, Ole Ironsides etc. none of it is marked. We talked to a traffic cop to ask where Ole Ironsides was, he didn't have a clue. We finally found it...three blocks away from where he was directing traffic. Quite a place. I hope to never go there again. HANK.

Well, if anyone gets lost on their way to Corry, just look me up!!! I live in Erie, and grew up in rural Potter County at the end of an unmarked dirt road. ;D

So you are married to someone from Boston/New England, so what? I've met your husband remember, he seems like a very nice guy and is in no way responsible for the screwed up mess Bostons highways are in.(think Big Dig) They were probably like that long before he was born. The "Rotary's" were no big deal to me. I raced stock cars on the local tracks (Cloverleaf, Lorain co.) back in the 60's so I will bash fenders with anyone. You ever see the junk I drive luv? Ask trevor, he knows! someone in a Lexus or a Beamer is going to take one look at my car, figure I probably have no insurance, and nothing to lose and stay the hell clear of me. HANK.

Yes Hank The Big DIg is Big Disaster! Cheap Quality of concrete, another 'oh lets buy cheap and make it work'! In the meantime, lives were lost because some cheapskate wanted to spend dollars to save cents. Now to me that sounds just like big business.... PS you and Hubby were born in the same year...we wont say which one!

Well folks, this little start up faire looms closer on the horizon. I know many are making plans to attend at least one weekend. Morwyn and I plan to attend on Saturday 10/13. This will give me a weekend off to recuperate after PRF's closing weekend.
So - who from Avaloch is going? When? I seem to recall Beer Blessings mention a 10/13-14 visit from some folks. It would be nice to see some familiar faces before the long cold winter sets in.

Scarlet...As Bunnie stated, it looks like we are planning on being there on Sat, Oct. 13. Trevor and Britny might be coming along with us if he does not have his car problems worked out by then. I extended an invitation that we would take him if he wishes to go, and if that date works for his schedule. I think Pirate Dave and Jen were also planning to attend on that date if I remember correctly. So there should be a few GLMF faces in the crowd. Since it is a small faire I hope we have no problems finding one another, as I know of no place there, it is hard to say "Hey...Lets all meet at X at a certain time." Looking forward to seeing you. HANK.

Now! I can probably find the place, but after 25 years of driving truck I can find damn near anything after being given some of the screwiest damn directions you ever saw. You can't imagine how many companies there are that have NO damn idea where they are located! (right KAT?) but for the average directionally challenged person, well I wish em luck with this one. HANK. . (Sorry Hank, slow on the uptake.) I totally agree with you. Mike called last night from Montana for MapQuest directions because his "truck" map wasn't listing street names. Guess what? No street names on Map Quest either. Well, he ended up finding the place fine. Good luck with finding this Faire. I went to the web site. It looks like an interesting Faire to check out. I will have to see if Mike can get the 13 off.

Oh good! It will be such fun to see some folks from Avaloch. I agree Hank, it seems like it is a wee little faire so we all should be able to spot one another rather quickly. The Western PA Fairie Festival started off quite small, but is growing bigger each year. Maybe the same will happen to this faire. I do know that our Pester the Jester is performing the second two weekends. He was one of the Tinkers at Avaloh this year, walking around on stilts and escaping from ropes and such. Looking forward to seeing you guys then!
Oh, no pub I believe. BYOB in the parking lot - something I'm always good for anyway!

Now to me that sounds just like big business.... Actually, that's not just Boston, that's most of the infrastructure for most of the U.S. Go for the cheapest bid and you get the cheapest quality. I will give Pa. one thing, they do take care of their main roads pretty well. On I-80 crossing into Ohio, you can always tell when you cross the line (without even looking at the signs) by road quality, very abrupt and very rough!

Okay, so we all meet in the parking lot!!
Which is where some of us will be a good third of the day, with the lack of a pub.
Hrmm.. I wonder what I can bring with me.... Probably purchased stuff, alas.
Toast to tailgating!!!
