I love celtic music, particularly celtic rock; I know other people on the boards also like the genre.
So, I started this thread to make announcements for a few reasons:
1) Recommend bands that are definitely noteworthy.. Particularly new ones that one of us has stumbled across.
2) Let us know when new albums come out..
3) Let us know when these artists are coming to the area..
4) Let us know when any of us are heading out to events with celtic music, in case any others might want to go as well and meet up.

And
Punch The Monkey This Friday, May 16th P.J. McIntyre's (Same as previous post)
Haven't seen this band, but they're from Columbus, and seem to do a lot of cover stuff. If it weren't for a very good friend's housewarming party Friday, I'd be out there. Ah well.

Enter The Haggis was very, very good. They have a lot of genres represented in their music. I was particularly surprised by the country influence in some of their songs..
Kate and I got to hang out with them a bit afterwards. Friendly, approachable, cool guys.. I highly recommend catching them if you get a chance!

Reminder, Seven Nations Tuesday night. I've heard 8:00 or 9:00, but I'll be there early anyway. ALSO! .. At Enter The Haggis, I heard of an event called Celtic Fling, that some of us may be rather interested in.. It's a hybrid of an Irish festival and a Renn Faire, and held at the PA Renn Festival site. Celtic Fling and Highland Games June 28-28 (And some the evening of the 27th!) ... (Weekend before GLMF starts!) www.parenfaire.com/celticfling.html$25 one day, $40 two-day Bands on the line-up that I've heard or at least heard of: Gaelic Storm Tartan Terrors Enter The Haggis Greenwhich Meantime Coyote Run Bands I'm not familiar with (yet): Scythian Albannach Barleyjuice Ceann Celtic Spring (Finalists on "America's Got Talent"..) Aoife Clancey The Hedge Band Makem and Spain Brothers Ed Miller Screaming Orphans On top of the music, there's a lot of other stuff going on too. Highland Games, a living history encampment, chainmail workshops, and a bunch of the regular renn faire vendors. With this line-up, if I can make it, I'll have to schedule my time very wisely.. I know I won't see it all over the course of a weekend, especiallyif I want to see multiple sets of the same bands(s).. One hour sets each... www.parenfaire.com/pages/outdoor_events/CelticFling/celticfling_mapandschedule.htmlAnyone interested in going and carpooling?!?!

I wish. I don't know what kind of director Scott is yet, but I imagine he's the kind who would not want us to miss the last weekend of rehearsal I'll just have to be jealous of whoever makes it down there. Especially since I haven't heard anything about Gaelic Storm coming anywhere near here. Boo. I love them...well... some of them (Swimin' in the Sea, WTF? Awful.)

Next weekend is the Irish Festival in Cuyahoga falls! Good Celtic music for free is a hard thing to find. Check out the line-up here www.riverfrontirishfest.com/indexriverfront.htmBeing that we live within walking/stumbling distance, we will be down there on most of the day sat

I'm heading to the Riverfront Irish Fest in Cuyahoga Falls next weekend.. And I'm also fairly sure that I'm going to Celtic Fling. Just have to get lodging figured out, and maybe fill in some minor details if other peeps are making the trek!

Enter the Haggis - ROCKS. As does Albannach (kind of in a completely different style, but still). Enter the Haggis reminds me of Great Big Sea. I'm also going to recommend the Glengarry Bhoys, too....we first saw them at the (now-defunct?) British Isles Fest in Ohio a couple years ago. Most of their current tour dates look to be in northern New York State or Ontario....
