So last week, I went to the Riverfront Irish Festival.. In the Beer Priest attire.
Some very good reactions.. And my favorite bit came today. I signed on to MySpace to find a comment from the person that runs Riverfront that they saw me at the Festival. Hehe..
I'm bringing out the Beer Priest next weekend at Celtic Fling. <big grin>

Celtic Fling is this weekend! YAY!!! I'm so excited!!!!
I'm sure I'll be spending more money than I should.. CD's are hard to pass up when you first find a good band, and I haven't experienced half of those on the line-up..

Oh yeah, I made it to Celtic Fling!!!! .. And here's my rundown..
Friday, Kate and I get to the hotel we're staying at, and get out of the car.. When I see a kilt, I decide to be a smart-ass, and say "I have no idea where that guy is going tomorrow! No idea what-so-ever which event he's attending..." So, we start talking. He recognizes my "Enter The Haggis" shirt, and then I find out he's a member of Coyote Run, one of the bands playing there. Coyote Run is also at the top of my list to see, as it came recommended..
That was an omen. We spent too much time at Coyote Run, and didn't get to see all of the bands there.. But we did schedule a LOT of our time to get the most out of it..
Coyotoe Run did not disappoint! Celtic with a southwest flaire.. Shared a stage with the Tartan Terrors. I would love to see them as a weekend act at GLMF. I caught 4 and a half of their 6 sets through the weekend. I love their cover of Battle of New Orleans! I snagged 4 of their CD's, and will get the rest when I next see them..
Enter The Haggis.. Caught 3 and a half of their sets. If you like the rock part of celtic music, you MUST catch these guys! Already had all their CD's... And these guys were a big part in the decision to go to FLing..
Albannach! HOLY CRAP, these guys would be AMAZING to get for a weekend visiting act at GLMF!!! A++ all around! ... I only caught one set, because they filled up FAST. Got both of their CD's, and a DVD. The "history lesson" before the band was a nice touch too!
Greenwhich Meantime.. Caught a set and a half. More mellow than I was expecting, because they're plugged by Enter The Haggis, and so I was expecting more rock. But dang, to hear a celtic band cover Billy Joel's "You May Be Right" and Radiohead's "Creep", hot dang! Both of their CD's.
I only caught a bit of Scythian, but they had a bit more gypsy sound influence from what I did hear. Very interesting, but didn't grab a CD due to funds.
Didn't catch the Tartan Terrors. After seeing them at GLMF, and the DVD, I figured it was more important to check out bands I hadn't caught before.
The bad.. Weather. Both days started almost exactly the same.. Rain about a half hour before gates open.. Light rain for the first half hour or so.. Very humid all day... But Saturday's heat was VERY nasty. So hot that it was too hot for me to drink. I had all of one beer... I was glad I had my 2L boda (wineskin) with me. Between two of us, we went through 4 fills. I'm very glad they have drinking fountains! ... Also, we didn't make the end of Saturday because we were just drained from the heat..
Sunday was much better. I got to check out several of their beers (They have an on-site brewpub, and only sell their stuff.) with the Mocha Stout being my favorite..
So Holly, what else do you have to add from the weekend? I didn't get to see some of the bands, and I'm curious what I missed...

Oh, I didst enjoy my weekend.
And I can recommend Albannach and Coyote Run as possible musical acts to shoot for a weekend slot. They'd do very well!!

I Had a great time at Fling too! However, this was my first time to go and not be garbed and doing wench activities. This time i stayed with a friend a her parents house.
I did not get to see Coyote Run, however, i know that they play at a Celtic Festival down in VA that a friend runs. I did not get to see them.
I got to see Enter the Haggis, I really liked them and i wanted to get a CD, but i didnt get a chance to. I liked the 'fusion' feel they had. I saw them last and they were a nice chance to lay down onthe grass and relax and listen.
I saw Albannach, and i cant get them outta my head. They are all over youtube, so feel free to catch them. I bought one of their CDs. One problem with this band i hear( and i only saw one performance) was that they NEVER change up their song list. I dont really mind, i loved them.
I saw/heard part of a Tartan Terrors show, I was not impressed, mostly because Steve left the band. He really lent a lyrical and enigmatic element to the band. Now, they seem more like just a comedy routine.
Saw a Greenwich Meantime also, and i liked them for the more mellow but fun celtic band. Mostly very Trad.
I was pleasantly surprised but the group Celtic Spring. I stumbled onto a show when i was about to pass out from the heat. They were a cutsie family celtic show. Think of them as the O'partigdes.
The heat was oppressive, not as bad as it usually is, but still bad. I will never forget the year it was 110 for fling. Ugh.
I only went on Sat, Matt had an audit on Monday and needed to be home at an early time.
Hey, i looked for you today and i didnt see you at all!!

Heh.. I was keeping an eye out for you all weekend, to no avail!
Saturday I was about in random places, having drunk more than normal before gate, and cutting out the alcohol for much of the day.... So not being at the pub was a bit odd..
Sunday I was back to normal, and back at Stumbull Inn for much of the day.. To find me, first check Stumbull. Then check the Pickle Grove. Then Porter and Stout. Then Black Ox. If none of the above, I'm wandering...

Hey Dave (and anyone else...) - have you ever heard much of The High Kings? I was cruising around YouTube, looking for other versions of "The Parting Glass," and stumbled on them. Nice.

Cleveland Irish Festival this weekend.. Yeah, it competes with Faire, but I'm going Friday and Saturday. (There's an outside chance I'll be at Faire for a couple hours Saturday morning though..)
Also... Seven Nations has a new album coming out... "Time as the Enemy"
They've chosen the Cleveland Irish Festival for the release, and will have a limited edition early release version available at the fest with different artwork and photographs... If there are other 7N fans out there that want a copy, drop a line by tomorrow evening, as I'm heading straight to the fest from work, and won't hop online before I go..

I love Brigid's Cross!!! WOnderful for a bar band, and family friendly to boot!
Cleveland Irish Fest... Friday, I went, saw the bands I wanted to see, caught up with friends, and went home... Made it to Faire Saturday for a few horus before heading back out to Cleveland Irish....... In garb.
The Beer Priest went over rather well. I was asked to pose for pictures several times, and several people gave me beer. Heck, the one woman at the beer tent near the rock stage was a repeat donor!...
Best story though.. I'm walking around and hear a Jesus comment.. I turn around and see a group of people who then call me over. They see my sign, and say "We need a blessing."
"Well, I need a beer!"
"Well, then go over to the beer truck, ask for a Guinness, and tell them you're with the Kreellers." (The Kreellers are a band from Detroit playing at the fest..)
"Really?!?" ... Well, yeah, it worked. I got my free beer because the band told me to do so! .. WHile I'm getting my beer, a girl asks me for a picture with her, which I happily oblige...
I then return to the band and their friends, and give the blessing to a lot of laughter and warm reception. Then the band decides they want a picture with me...
"That is sooo going on the band's website!"
Oh, it warms my heart so!
{Hey Higgins, I guess this means I really AM with the band!! Well, sorta..}
