I now have a CW channel. So I can watch it live. Anymore, if there is a conflict, I just download what I don't watch, instead of trying to fight with my VCR. So some of these only get seen on the computer.
You should try Castle. If you like cop shows you would probably like it. The title character, Castle is played by the same guy who played Mal on Firefly. He is a best selling author, who tags along with the actual cops to get inspiration for his books. (thanks to some strings pulled, by his friend the mayor) There is some good humor in there, as well as some interesting cases.
Can't believe you've never seen Rules of Engagement. It's hilarious. A real guys show. Basically it is about a married couple, and engaged couple, and their sleezy single friend. (played by David Spade)

But I do agree with you. I've been adding a lot more cable series to my viewing schedule than network series. If you notice, a chunk of the stuff I watch, ahd been on a long time. I started watching them, when they were new, and I just keep watching them. Occasionally, they will pair them up with something good that I end up watching because I'm too lazy to get up and get the remote to switch stations. But others I checked out, because of who was in them, and like it. Like Castle, I gave it a shot because the Firefly connection. How I Met Your Mother and Bones both got a chance because the Boffy / Angel connections. (HIMYM has the actress that played Willow)
But yeah, cable series seem to be a lot better. Plus, I like the shorter seasons, as there is less time invested. And the shorter seasons usually means a lot less filler episodes.

I watched a few episodes of Castle when it first came on a couple of seasons ago. Wasn't very impressed with it. Most of these cop shows are just the same old same old. Right now it is opposite Grimm on Monday night so I watch that. But Grimm is going back to its regular Friday night time in a couple of weeks so maybe I'll give it another looksee.
Watched another episode of that One Car Too Far the other day. The premise is stupid but it is educational. I learned that under extreme circumstances you can use a stick as a spark plug wire. The next time I have to replace plug wires on a vehicle I will have to try it out as an experiment. I'm not going to go out and ruin a perfectly good wire to see if it will work. But an old set I'm going to replace anyway......it does look intriguing.
One of my very favorite shows is Power Block on Spike, Saturday morning from 9 till 11 AM. It is a series of four shows dealing with car repair. There is Extreme 4X4, followed by Horsepower, then Muscle car and Trucks. Lots of good how to stuff, tech tips, and new products.
Since you get under the hood now and then ya might want to check this out if you've never watched it before. I find them to be very educational and entertaining.

Found a new show on Discovery to watch. It comes on Thur. at 10:00PM, called Texas Car Wars. The premise is about these four garages in the Austin TX. area that compete at car auctions (kinda like all them storage locker shows) to buy a car cheap, fix it up and flip it in hopes of making a few bucks.
Since I know a little something on the subject I figured I would check it out. It's good for a laugh if you know anything about fixing cars. I have to shake my head and laugh at some of their repair techniques as they do seem to go out of their way to do some things the hard way. But, it does involve cars and you learn what not to do, so I'll add it to my things to watch list.
The one thing about all these shows that crack me up is the extremely short time they have to get these cars running or the world is going to end if we don't finish this car in one week so we can take it to the car auction, or the buyer is coming to pick it up or something stupid. When the car is ready to sell that's when you go looking for a buyer, not the day you roll this piece of junk into the shop.
I have a sign in my garage that states; All work guaranteed to be ready today will be ready tomorrow.....MAYBE! Because I know how quickly things can go totally to Hell.

Yeah, that is one of the thnigs that bothers me with most of these kinds of shows. The time thing. They do it to add 'drama'. Like I need any more drama in my life.
The home-flip shows are the same way. Always taking shortcuts to make things look pretty, but not actually fixing stuff.

I hear ya about those home flip shows. Mike Holmes would loose him mind over some of the ass backwards repairs I've seen done. Hey wait! Maybe that is where he is getting the homes he repairs on his show. HMMMM, could be.
On the first episode of Texas Car Wars, one of the teams bought a 64 Thunderbird, and one of the things they wanted to do was replace the coil spring suspension with air bags. And they're going, how we gonna get those coil springs out of there safely as they are under a lot of tension and can seriously hurt you if you don't remove them correctly. NOW! They have a cutting torch sitting right next to them. Since the springs are headed for the scrape pile anyway, do they just torch the coils to relieve the tension? Oh God no, they do it the hard way.
They're like my buddy Mark. I'll tell him the easy, safe way to do something and he'll turn around and do it his way, AKA the hard way. I'll just watch from a distance (it's safer that way) and just let him bust his ass. He's fun to watch. I wonder, maybe we could get him his own TV show.

So, Hank. What was the hard way?
For people like me, without torches. The best way I know, is to remove the shock, and jack the car up until the spring falls out.

TREVOR, saw a new TV show Monday night you might like . It is on the SPEED channel at 9:00PM. It is called "RU FASTER THEN A REDNECK."
The premise of the show is they pit American muscle cars against the imports in a race with the winner getting $10,000 dollars. One of the challenges was between a Lambo, a $250,000 Italian sports car, VS a 1977 Smokey and the Bandit Trans-Am. Now, the Pontiac had been "tweaked" a little bit, it was putting out 700 horsepower (the Lambo comes from the factory with 650) had better brakes and a racing suspension, so they were on pretty equal footing. The Trans-Am blew it away. Took the lead from the start and never looked back.
On another race they pitted a Mazda against a Mustang. The Mazda won but when they opened the hood instead of a rice grinder motor the owner had replaced it with an LS-1 fuel injected Chevy V-8. Good move on his part in my opinion.
The host of the show is this crazy redneck, or at least he's playing that part really well. Ya oughta check it out. A lot of laughs and some really bad ass cars.

Sounds interesting. Sadly, my Monday nights are overbooked as it is. I already have 3 hours of programs I have to download because I can't watch them live on Monday.

Hey Trevor, since your Mondays are kinda booked up TV wise, I noticed in the TV guide we get with the Plain Dealer that RU FASTER THEN A REDNECK is on tonight at 9:00PM on SPEED. So if that time slot is more open for you ya might want to check it out. It's probably a repeat of this past Mondays episode, but if you've not seen it, well it's new to you.

Well Trevor that's the one nice thing about the cable channels, they repeat everything a zillion times. Look at the History channel, you can get 24 hours of Pawn Stars practically every other day. So if I see where it is going to be on at any other time slot besides Monday I'll try and let you know as much in advance as I can.
