You had to see this coming. It was inevitable. The only way to control what you have no control over is to destroy it. It was like putting down a rabid dog, or shooting a horse with a lame leg. It wasn't good for the Faire anymore, so it was dumped. Kinda like they dumped other things that "weren't good for the Faire anymore" . . . . On first hearing about the demise of the official boards, I was shocked. But upon reflection, I realized it was inevitable. What Brook cannot control, he gets rid of. This is not complaint or being negative, just simple fact. Had little or nothing to do with being "good for the faire", except in his head. I will be civil, but I will speak the truth as I see it. I cannot and will not be "nice". Too many people I care about, not to mention myself, have been hurt by the tptb. It was not the board that was the "rabid dog".

Has there been any "Official" word as to why they shut the board down?

I don't think we will ever get an "official" explaination other than something that is a flimsy veil of crap. Lets face this... the website is their advertisement that they pay for, the message board is directly linked to that website and is veiwable by anyone....namely Jawanda Goatadafayre. Hence the easy, mind you I said EASY, decision is to eliminate the message board that might convince Jawanda to change her last name.
They are running a business, I try to keep that in mind at all times when offering suggestions. I think in a service oriented business, ignoring what your customers want, especially your hard cores, your season ticket holders, is a fast way to lose business.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an "official" reason to surface that amounts to much more than a placative token response.

Jawanda? Thats hilarious....Well I guess they have a point...But oh well. THis place seems to be alot cooler anyhow. More stuff going on....
Trevor, do you drink? mayhaps you will let me buy you an ale or 5....to thank you for giving myself and so many others a bit of shelter from reality.
But consider my offer sincerly...I would love to thank you personally.

No thanks are necissary. But they are appreciated. I truely love the faire, and just want to do what I can to support it. Besides the boards are the way I get to know new people to talk to at faire. Without the official board, I would have never met half the people that I have met. This is just an extension of that, and as such is kind of selfish too

trevor - you go right ahead and be selfish...
what's really interesting is that other facets of my life are having the exact same reaction to reality. Other organizations I belong to are getting rid of opinionated people that TPTB don't like and not giving any good reasons for it. I find so much symmetry in my life between what is happening there and here at GLMF. Everything that I ever held as safe and comfortable is undergoing massive changes which is detrimental to my ADD and O-C self.

I hear ya, Sweetie...same goes for me...odd to think that Faire is a microcosim of the world and that we are even MORE at the mercy of nervous, insecure folks....
*sigh*

The reason the board got shut down was already given to us. Anything beyond the fact that it was GLMF's desicion, is really none of our business.
I understand it's a place where we all go to chat but we abused it and that's that.
I agree that constructive critecism is a good thing but when it turns into a war against what it should be helping..it only makes things worse. The same opinions were expressed and expressed again and again and again until it became a cat fight. It ends up not being productive, so why keep it?

I understand it's a place where we all go to chat but we abused it and that's that. Abuse is so subjective......I mean you really kinda sound like that parent "I told you not to throw that toy...now I am taking it away from you" I respect the fact that its there business why they shut it down...and frankly I think it did them more harm than good....However, for you to think its "OK" for them to "Punish" us....is crazy and submissive.

Actually, only the main website is an advertisement open to the public. The board was a gated community. You had to register just to read the boards, most of the members rarely posted. The board was open to the public (to read) briefly, and then closed again. Too much for the webmaster to deal with, I imagine.
Most of the board regulars who read and posted regularly are close to the faire in one way or another and care about what happens to it. So the fuss about "negativity" and "bad publicity" doesn't hold a lot of water. It is just a convenient excuse.
As for the repeated opinions and suggestions, they were repeated because there was no indication they were being heard. Heard and considered (even if not taken), not brushed off or ignored.
There are serious problems with the faire, these problems are now out in the open (whether or not they should be is no longer the issue). The genie is out of the bottle, it's not going back, no matter how hard you try to ignore it. It must be dealt with head on.

As one of TPTB WE DO LISTEN!!!!
For the love of God, how many times do we have to tell you this. Just because we don't comment everytime someone makes a suggestion doesn't mean we don't listen. Between just Brook and Myself, we read the message boards at least once a day. If someone has a comment, complaint, issue we take it into consideration the next time we meet. And no you don't have to be a member to read, and you can log on as a guest if you want to post. No gates there.
Take one suggestion....better parking people.....yes we have a system in place, do you guys need to worry about it...no. Contracts...well, It takes monthes to complete the whole contracting process. From initial negotiation to final signatures. We started that process the tuesday after Faire ended. Should we post everytime we get one step closer...no. We wait until it is final, then we let you know.
As far as the board going down, it has nothing to do with Brook or myself or any other representative of the Faire. Just accept that it's gone and visit here. Because we read this board too. Because we listen. Because we care.
Did i mention that we listen....??
