LOL...go fetch a lance will ya? And watch where you mark your territories... As for the Freelancers being hard on squires....yes they were, however, they are like that at all of their shows. I saw them at Maryland and they were no different. The difference is that in Maryland, they have the same people helping them out each year, so they know the routine. My wife and few others adapted well, so they really didn't have a problem with the jousters. Those who stuck it out to the end earned the Freelancer's respect. Those who didn't, didn't belong there.

Hey WOOF, I think you may be on to something with the medieval dog show thing. I especially like the part about the dogs demonstrating skills that a dog of that time period would possess, like fox hunting and FALCONRY! I must agree. I have watched the joust for 12 years now and I am getting a little tired of it, but a FLYING DOG!?!? Well that is something ya just don't see every day! That would certainly be something worth watching! Hopefully the dogs are house broken, but if not, well I suppose we could just have them NOT fly over the audience.
And, who knows, if we have some really large dogs....well maybe the dwarfs could joust while riding them. That would be one hell of a show!

Come on, Hank, where have you been?! There are a number of breeds of BIRD dog......why do you think they're called that?!
So far as the joust goes, I'm 100% in agreement. Gets old after so many years, and the dogs would be a great change of pace ( Altho the midgets on mini horses DID sound like fun! Trouble with that is....at least according to an article I read in USA Today,... the midgets tend to want to be taken VERY seriously as artists and have no sense of humor whatsoever, so clashes between them and the audience are inevitable. In Wisconson last summer, it actually led to bloodshed, so the dogs are a much safer alternative! I hear the mini horses are really sweet, though! )
In the interest of fair play, however, if we're gong to have dogs, I think that cats deserve equal time. To that end, I am training ( or bribing! ) my troupe to perform Shakespear, specifically, 'The Maiming of The Shrew' and 'A Midsummer Afternoon's Nap'.
Rehearsals are going nicely, and the costumes are comming along well, except for the fact that they insist on playing with the feathers!
I'll be negotiating with Larry and Co. next week in regards to stages and show times. Hank, I know you and Bunnie have a number of cats, so if any of them harbor asparations of life in the spotlight, by all means, let me know. We still have several parts open, and, as always, the more the merrier.
I'm SOOO looking forward to this year. No more boring ol' full contact jousting mayhem. Out with the old, in with the new!!! HUZZAH!!!

If you weren't in that camp(joust field) you don't know what went on. the boys didn't catch on and didn't try their best and i know they could have done better. heck last year was my first year and i accepted the challenge and had a blast. all the boys needed was to look alive and keep out of the horses way, and pay attention, jousting is a very dangerous sport, not to mention when you have PROFESSIONALS that are trained they know what they need to get the best out of each pass and have a great show! Freelancers are real contact, not the cheap blood using troupes I've seen in the past...those guys are the "think they're god" type.

For crying out loud. Whoever is logging as 'Guest" and anyone else 'anonymous', grow up. If you've got good info, use your name and put your damned money where your mouth is.
'Guest' - if you are truly Larry's right hand, then you made a big mistake saying what you did about jousters . . . after all, when they read the comment about their egos, which of them do you think is gonna want to come work for Larry if his Right Hand is all about insulting them?
You're an idiot. At least Joe has the courage to say what he does out loud as himself, as do I. If you're so close to Larry and know the 'real' truth, then just shut up and let us be happy in our ignorance.
I am so sick and tired of your attitude. Grow the freak up.
Here's the biggest problem the Jousters had last year with Larry and 'struth - they wanted to have fresh sand so when they fell down they wouldn't break things (like bones) and as of about 10 days prior to opening, there was no new sand. Whether they got it or not I don't know. I don't know how Larry resolved the issue. I suppose that was the thing you heard about. Since they stayed on, and didn't defame the faire, they must have been happy with the way Larry handled it.
Oh look. I just gave away the noncontroversial ending.
Grow the freak up. All of you hidden posters. Tell us who you are or don't bother wasting our time with sensationalism and rumormongering - if we really want that there's a presidential election heating up . . . . . .

Richard: I beseech thee, peddle thy level-headed logic elsewhere, good sir! This is the Internet, certainly not a place for such sense. The Web is for sensationalized bullshit -- factoids, not facts; shady secrets, not reliable sources. I reject your reaility and substitute my bone!
Dill: Excellent idea! Since I have Larry's ear, I will tell him you have my full support. I’m sure I will love the way your kitties taste perform.

Why, thank you, Woof. I like the way you think, and it will be nice to have your backing on the show besides. Don't get your kibbles in a twist over Richard and the others.....sometimes I think that they forget that, as wonderful and as much fun as our dear Faire is, it's NOT real life, and it's certianly not life and death. It's a delightful little diversion FROM real life, but not, in the general scheme of things, all that truly important. Some humans need to get their priorities straight! Your bone, indeed................. And as to that little, ah, 'slip' about my tasty kitties.....just keep in mind that the Goddess in her wisdom, and knowing how small animals may fare out in the wide world, has granted them the boon of making them most unpalatable, not to mention poisonous, to canines like yourself. To say nothing of the fact that Raven has taken on dogs before, and won....shall we just say screaming, demented demon cat from hell in a really bad mood?!!!? Just a thought...................... To make up for any dissapointments in that regard, however, I will make you up a special batch of my patented homeade doggie treats, all for you. Would you prefer beef, liver, chicken or cheese, or perhaps a combination of all four? Let me know................ And a P.S. here.......'Richard' is a pretty common name, you know....still doesn't really tell us who you are!

You have to remember also that there are many people involved with faire that make thier living on the circuit. So some decisions are literaly life and death important for them.

You have to remember also that there are many people involved with faire that make thier living on the circuit. So some decisions are literaly life and death important for them. Sorry guys, should have been a little more clear there. I'm quite well aware that for the people who make their living off of faires, as well as Larry and his staff, or anyone involved in the business end in any way, that Faire is indeed a very serious thing. As in fact is any way anyone earns a living. Never meant to say otherwise! What I meant was the Faire GOERS, or patrons, whatever you care to call them. They, for the most part, are the ones doing all the yelling and critiquing and complaining and general whining......................which only makes it harder for those to whom it IS a living to do their jobs. They're also the ones for whom Faire is ONLY a pass time, and not some life and death issue, or a Gods given right, though that's what they seem to view it as! THOSE were the people I was refering to. Obviously, the Faire needs those patrons to survive......so does a grocery store or any other business, and I certianly want to see Faire live long and prosper, to quote Star Trek, but to the patrons it is in fact an ENTERTAINMENT, and NOT a necessity, and NOT reality, and not a RIGHT......and sometimes I wonder if they realize that. And my sincere apologies to any of the folk who work so hard to bring us Faire in ANY capacity, owner, office worker, crafter, performer............anyone who may have taken that wrong. I know how hard you work to provide us with that delightful escape each summer and I have the greatest respect for you all!

To Clear some things up!!
YES we do have a joust team!! I will release that info as soon as things are finalized. YEs we did work on the joust list last summer. We weren't told of the Freelancers need for sand until the tuesday before opening. We came upon a compromise and fixed it to Roy's liking.
As far as faire being a way of making a living, it is very true that some of us, do this as a career. I've been on LArry;s senior staff for 8 years. This is how I make my living to support my family. Which includes my 18 month old son. We do whatever we feel is in the faires best interests. Some of you may not see things that way, but trust me. We do whatever is in our power to allow this place to grow and to prosper. There are always two sides to every story. And even though we can't share every small detail with you guys, please give us the benefit of the doubt that we know what we are doing. Let us do our jobs.
Many of you don't know me, but many of you do. SOme even on a personal level. I don't bullshit and I don't sugar coat. What I do however, I do 200%. I work my ass off for you guys. This place is home. And by home i mean I live here 365 days a year. MAny of you can back me up here in saying that there isn't a spring or summer day that goes by that our entire staff can be found working long hours to make Avaloch a magical place to visit.
Some of you are even part of that., And thank you.

I can vouch for her-not that she needs it,
Prior to becoming involved, as a patron, I could remember seeing Panda hit the ground running from one end of the shire to the other. Let her and the rest of the staff do their job, dont interfere, comments are accepted.
The proof is displayed when Faire season opens. Cappice?

I agree 100% as a vender employee I see the staff out on the grounds working to get thinge ready as soon as the ground is dry enough to do so. they ALL work amazingly hard to make sure that everyone has a good and safe place to enjoy themselves.
Panda, thank you for leting us know that there will be a joust troup this year. I was hoping there would be. i can not wait to see who they are. and thank you for all you do.
