Ok, we have been talking about the faire itself this weekend, with some mention of the acts. Well, lets talk more about them.
What did you see? What did you think of it?
We of course caught the chess match on opening day. Something of a tradition for us. Really like this years story at the chess match, and saw some interesting fights. I'm not going to spoil anything just yet, but there are some really funny moments. As well as some really good fights. Definitely worth sitting out there in the sun to watch.

Opening day was awesome! This is my fourth year attending the Faire (and 3rd year with a season pass), and I almost felt like a noob gawking at all the changes. I'm sure most of you who have attended for many years have gotten used to changes, but since I started attending many things were stagnant...so it was really awesome to see some things shaken up a bit. But at the same time many things were still the same (like Olive's wonderful site) which made it still feel like "home". A friend of mine came with me (from South Carolina)...his first time at any type of Ren Festival and he hasn't stopped talking about it Its great! He even got pulled up on the Johnny Phoenix stage on saturday. He's ready to come back for Celtic weekend. So I want to say thank you to all the actors and vendors etc for really setting a great tone and a great start to the new season. As far as acts (and we saw many but not all): Broon--totally awesome. This was my first time seeing him and he kept us laughing the entire time. hack and slash: always enjoyable jousters: I was disappointed. I never felt like I was drawn into it. I remember my first time seeing a joust (GLMF 2004) and being really impressed. Doubt I'll go back to that washer well wenches: always a laugh Robin Hood's escape: pretty good E Muzeki: really enjoyed that. Didn't get to sit through an entire "show" so we'll definitely be back to that one Porter and Stout: ok Opening Gate: good start to the day, even though the canon failed to go off for a bit Menagerie: always a pleasure to see and hear them. Truly enjoyable Johnny Phoenix....what can I say other than always a good show. I may be biased by my friend getting on stage tho And the fact that Johnny got perplexed by the name Lubrizol. I can't remember off the top of my head what else we saw, but it was a really really good day at the Faire. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Johnny Phoenix....what can I say other than always a good show. I may be biased by my friend getting on stage tho And the fact that Johnny got perplexed by the name Lubrizol. I was at that show as well! Which one was your friend? The first one or the second? I ask, because I have a few pics that didn't get posted on my site. More specifically, a shot of Johnny with the second guy, both standing their with the bras on.

The one in the bra would be him But if you don't mind, don't put his picture on your website...I got enough glares from him when I told him I took 22 pictures...but that could be because I offered to sell them to his brother....

I was watching the rogues and at this one point this adorable little girl walks up on the stage faces away from the audience and does one of the little kid dances where really they are just bending their knees. then one of the rogues turned around and started doing the same thing.

Like Lady Catherine said, Pirate Dave and I spent the first weekend socializing (and shopping). I only saw one whole show, and that was E Muzeki, who were just awesome! Must get the other CD that they have...
I only saw like 3/4 of the Rogues' performance (but heard them all throughout the weekend), and they rocked as well! No one beats the Rogues when it comes to pipes and drums, in my opinion.
This weekend we're planning on catching Fool Hearty, Dragon Tales (because we're curious), Broon, the Joust, and probably a few others. We have plenty of time to catch everyone, after all...

Just got home from the 2nd Saturday, and have to say:
GO SEE THE RENAISSANCE MAN!!! OMG, his humor is extremely smart and sharp-witted. We just loved him and really, really hope he'll back for a longer run next year.
Oh yes, and ladies - he's very easy on the eyes, too!
Thanks for bringing him in!!!

I agree...Ren Man was great. I am still laughing at some of his jokes. Caught Fool Hearty today. Will have to go back and see their dog training show. Loved the Tartan Terrors. So good. Can't wait to see them again next weekend. Watched the dragon show. He did pretty well. Watched Finn, Flynn and the family improve today. They are funny.

Tartan Terrors RAWKED!So, not what I was expecting. We finally caught Broon. Haven't laughed that hard in a long time Caught the joust on Saturday, the final one of the day. We liked it. Some was a bit boring (like the hitting each other with the wooden battons), but the rest was great. None of the WWF stuff that we used to have. Some authentic fighting, both on foot, and on horseback. And the actual jousting was some great hard-hitting stuff. We will be going back to check out some of the other jousts.

This past weekend was AWESOME and it was great to see The Terrors back! Harkens back to the old days with them AND The Rogues...and Broon...even wounded the man makes me snarf ale out of my nose...
The music in the Shire this year is fabulous! The "energy" alone is so much more on an up beat...can't wait until next weekend...
