That sounds about right The painting is done. Next up is tearing out the old bathtub to replace it. Waiting on a call back from Dale now to figure out when we can run to HD to pick up the new tub. After that is replace the kitchen window and some roofing. The window frame is just crumbling away into nothing. A victim of a leak about 10 years ago. The leak got fixed, but the window never got replaced, and it just kept deteriorating over the years. Once that cheap wood it was made of got soaked it was all down hill. I checked last week. The lumber for the opening is still solid and unharmed. So just pop the window out and throw a new one in. It's a fairly common size too. 48 x 36. HD is supposed to have a sliding window that size in stock for like $150. Couldn't find any double casement windows for under $500 to replace what is there now, so a slider will have to do.

Well, yesterday, and today are yard work at this house. After Dale and I picked up my stuff at Home Depot and dropped it at the old house, I broke out the chainsaw and took care of some stuff. Then started raking all the branches and leaves out of the yard. Going to continue that today until the rain we are supposed to get.

Today was frustrating. I was running cable to the spare bedroom upstairs. My father-in-law might be coming to visit for a few days, and figured it would be nice if he could watch some TV up there. So, I got to play around in the attic all day. Not horrible, as I can walk more or less upright in a lot of areas. Though I do have to dodge the knob/tube wiring running around up there. Didn't want to chance touching any of it. There was already a cable run up there. It just ended at a spliter. The other end was just hanging free in the basement. That meant, hauling the ladder in the house and up the stairs. The access is in the ceiling in the hallway. Once up there, first I had to get my bearings and try to figure out where the walls and such fell. That meant a couple trips back and forth with the tape measure, just to be absolutely sure what I wanted to do where. Then down to the basement to get some tools and my cable. Only to find that the ends I have, don't fit the cable I have. So, a run over to the old house. Figured I would steal some ends from there and see if they fit. Instead, I ended up taking one of my cable runs out and brought that home. Back up in the attic, with the drill. Got my hole drilled, dropped a string down in the cavity with a weight on it. Got down to the spare room, drilled a hole where the string should have been. It only took 3 tries to find and hook the string. Tie the cable on, back to the attic to try and pull it up. Not happening. Cable kept hanging up, and I didn't want to break the string. Took a break. Messaged my son to see if he could come over and feed the cable for me. Got no answer (turns out he was at the movies) Remembered I had 100' of phone line in the basement. Got that. Tied that on the string in the attic, and pulled it down to the room. Hooked that on the cable and taped it up real good. Worked great, got the cable pulled up, only to find the hole wasn't big enough for the taped up joint to come through Took a bit, but I managed to make the hole big enough with the utility knife I had on me. Got the cable up, connected. Put stuff away, Hooked the cable up to the TV. No signal So, either, the cable I got from the old house was bad (not sure, haven't used that particular run in a couple years) Or the cable that was up there, either isn't good, or doesn't actually run to the basement. I mean, I am pretty sure it does. Where it comes out in the attic, is directly above where it comes out in the basement. But I didn't go all the way over to that corner to see and try to pull it up and see if it moved what was in the basement. (kinda hard to do by myself) So, I know what I will be doing after my 10 hour day at work tomorrow.

After that is replace the kitchen window and some roofing. Holy crap. I've been working on this damn bathroom for almost 2 months I knew it was dragging on, but didn't realize it had taken this long. I hope to have it done by the end of this long weekend finally. Tub is in, floor is patched, drywall is done and ready for primer. That is what I planned on doing tonight after work, but got interrupted when my son needed help. Just need to prime, paint, put the tub surround back up, put the fixtures back on, tile the floor, and reinstall the trim. Then I can put the toilet back in. Than I can lug all my tools back home and put them away. Because after this I AM DONE! I know I still need to do the roof, and window, but for now, I am out of money, and am tired of splitting time between 2 houses. It's bad enough I have to go over every week to mow.

Yeah, this weather hasn't been very good for construction.
At this rate, I am never going to be able to paint the exterior trim on my porch windows.
Don't want to paint until the wood has a chance to dry out really good.

Front door and columns still need painting, in 2 weeks rough grade wil be done, then we get the final grade done, shed will be delivered and fence installed for my 4 legged clowns as they drive me nuts in the house all the time!

Where did you move to girlfriend, the wilds of Northern Canada? We live out in the boonies where the dear and the antelope play and it's more civilized then what you are describing. Do you have reindeer and polar bears in the neighborhood?
HANK.

Hank we've moved to North Ridgeville We're at the tri corners of Westlake in the backyard, Avon across the street, were on a QUIET street, only 14 houses Too damn many Muslims in North Olmsted, inbred brother sister fights on the street, police always there, son a complete asshole. N Olmsted becoming like Dearborn Michigan , It was time....we have a ranch so no steps...but with less housing, when it gets windy, those damn trees say,and we are gone from Cuyahoga county. Thank God!

I forgot how much I don't like scraping paint. Sunday, I got 3 windows and the door scraped down, and re-caulked. Monday I primed them. Today I got 2 more windows scraped. (have to get more caulking tomorrow)
Still have the stretch of 5 windows to go on the front. Hopefully I can get them scraped down in the next couple days.
Then, with luck, over this long weekend coming up I can get it all primed and painted. Then that project will finally be off my to-do list.

Well, so much for those plans. I got a lot done on Saturday, but with the rain on Sunday, I really lost momentum. Still have to finish scraping those 5 windows and prime. Then all will be ready for paint. I did get all of them sanded and tweaked so they open and close easily now. They were rubbing in several areas, and the sill had tilted so it was also hindering their movement.
Looks like the weather might cooperate as well. So hopefully, I will be done by the end of this weekend.

Man, this project is never gonna end! The rain Saturday morning put me a bit behind schedule. I did get everything scraped and primed, but that is it. Gonna wait until the weekend to paint. Once I get going with that oil-based paint, I want to do it all at once. I love using it for exterior work, but I had cleaning the brushes after using oil-based. So, the less I have to do that, the better. When I paint the new screens as I build them, I just use cheap disposable brushes, But for a big project like this, I plan on using one of my good brushes. Here is what that bank of 5 windows looked like before, after I scraped and caulked, and after I primed. I need to get this wrapped up, as I have another project that is taking precedent. I finally got the tub surround for the bathroom at the old house. Want to get that installed and finished up so I can turn the water back on and check everything. If all is good, then I plan to get the gas and water shut off over there to save me some money. I'd like to get that done before the end of the month so I don't have another bill.

Still a never ending project It's all painted now. So I started scraping the paint off the window panes. I got a little on there, but there was already a bunch from whoever painted the windows before me. Well, turns out, that is the least of my problems. Whoever painted before not only was a sloppy painter, but they apparently caulked the windows as well. So, now I am removing caulking from the glazing putty because it is all over the windows and looks like crap. It's like tripling the time it should take to just scrape the glass down. I'm down to the last 5 windows, then I can call this project done.
