REMEMBER....THE OPINIONS EXPRESSED HERE ARE THOSE OF YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD DEMENTED PERSON.....SO KEEP THAT THOUGHT IN MIND IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT I HAVE TO SAY. HANK.
COMPLIMENTS AND COMPLAINTS.
Overall, I would rate the faire an A.
This weekend was spent mostly wandering about, getting the "lay of the land" so to speak. Seeing where the vendors were located ( Griffin moved, for example) and just who was and wasn't there. ( The leather cup people were gone, for example.) saying hello to friends I'd not see since last year. and trying to catch some of the new acts.
Caught Wonderfool, Thom Bedlan, Giacomo, Empty Hats. We certainly seem to have a lot of magic acts in the shire this year. I liked them all. I LOVED Loony Lucy!! She is possibly nuttier then I am! And far more talented! I can neither sing, dance, nor play an instrument, and she can do all those things!
Of the "OLD" acts; caught Johnny Phoenix. When is this so call "NEW" show of his take place? I saw the same old fire walk show he always does. Even though there was nothing new about it, it was still a very enjoyable performance. Loved the Combat Chess. Was one of the best I had seen in quite awhile.
Fool Hardy and the Untrained Dog did their usual good show, they are funny. And it was good to see Pester back in the mud. He, Heather and the other fellow (don't know his name, more about that later) do a "dirty" funny show!
NOW FOR THE COMPLAINTS!!
Number one on my list: THE PROGRAMS STILL SUCK! Saturday, they had them at the ticket booth only, not at the gate as you walked in as in past years. So for those of us you had pre-bought their tickets, or had passes, a lot of them did not get a schedule. I know I did not. I can see that they are trying to save money on the program, as most of them probably get tossed anyway, so I understand that. BUT FOR GOD SAKES, LIST THE CAST: real name, and character, so we know who these people are. I noticed the volunteers names were listed, and as one of them I certainly appreciate the recognition, but the cast works every bit as hard as we do (Probably harder! We're volunteers, we come and go as we please, and as our personal schedule permits.) Those folks put in a lot of LOOONG hours, and I feel that effort should be acknowledged!
Second complaint; Parting Glass; YAWN!! horrible song. The cast does a wonderful job of singing it, they harmonize well, but the song just SUCKS! When Health to the company was sung, people joined in and sang along. But this...Look around you at the next Pub sing. Most people are talking with friends, or doing something else, they couldn't care less about it. A few are paying attention to the song. I did , as I said i would give it a fair trial. But, let me say, next week when it comes that time, I will simply find some other thing to do.
So! there ya have it. Looking forward to week Two. HANK.
