Captain BF. When I asked about photos, I mean of you in your character outfit. Not pictures of the cartoon character, I wouldn't know who they were anyway.
As for coming as an anime character or a storm trooper, or a klingon....Well I think you will get one of three possible reactions from the patrons, playtrons, cast, etc.
Reaction One: Cool outfit dude!
Reaction Two: Uh, what the hell are you suppose to be?
Reaction Three: A look, a shrug. Then they will just carry on with what they were doing, and pay you no mind what so ever.
At least those are the reactions I get when I wear a talking rat on my head.

I like the demon. I like Link. They both fit in to an extent. I'm not too fond of the smack-you-in-the-face-anime costumes though, because they're difficult to interact with properly.
Btw, I didn't actually see this one, but heard about it.. Absolute BEST non-period attire for a Renn Faire!... I think it was O-Renn, but some guy came in a Star Trek Starfleet uniform. Every couple hundred feet, he stops, says "Arch!.. ARCH!!" He smacks his tricorder, and walks off..
Any trekkie would fall over if they saw that!!!

Vampires didn't catch on until later, and they started in Eastern Europe.. Mental image just popped into my head.. How funny would it be to see all the villager cast members chasing down the Ogre with pitchforks?! Anyway, prolly not *vampires* per se, but there were plenty of demons running around. After all, the priest had to bless and oversee the breweries to make sure the demons didn't get in and muck things up. They were everywhere, and they needed to ensure they had a safe supply of drinkable liquids since the water wasn't all that often. Hrmmm... That makes me think a bit. Maybe next year I'll adapt to a priest that fights the things that go bump in the night... Bottle of holy water.. garlic cloves hanging on my "Will Bless For Beer".. big wooden crucifix with pointy end at the bottom... Heh. I'm gonna go all Exorcist on your arses! "I kick ass for the Lord!"

Actually, the best ever out of place costume was pirate weekend several years back. (when dressing as a pirate still got you a dollar discount on admission or something)
Some guy was wandering around in a 70's era Pittsburgh Pirates team uniform.
Totally out of place but too damn funny not to enjoy.

The Klingons were funny when they rode the elephant. I remember them YEARS ago.
However, my faire can kick your con's ass! (Or at least that is what article read...) I think they look ridiculous. But then I rolled my eyes at the many LINKS running around from Nintendo fame. But hey each to their own...
If I had my way, all those wearing gold lame fabric would be denied entry until all offending articles of clothing are removed.

I think GLMF should have a "Day of Wrong" like Maryland has...last day of Faire...anything goes (as long as it's legal) At MDRF I've seen Klingon Pirates, Storm Troopers, Flying Monkeys from "Wizard of OZ" and a 275 lb guy, 5 O’clock shadow and cigar in a pink tutu AKA "The Fairy Godfather" (I'm not telling him pink isn't his color!) It's Mardis Gras minus the flashing...

In my humble opinion, I do like to see things tied into the overall theme. However, I have seen all manner of Klingons, Trekkies, Anime, Goth, even Roman centurians. Faire is for fantasy, SCA is for re-enactment. Even in the SCA there is historical descrepancy. There is nothing worse than a garb Nazi. It doesn't matter what I think, if they pay they get to come in. You can chose to ignore them or you can talk to them and meet interesting people that usually have a reason to justify (albiet sometimes just humor or shock value) why they are dressed the way they are. Faire is what you want to make it.

For some odd reason when we think of the Middle Ages/Medieval Times we tend to think only of England. Probably all those books and movies we read/saw as a kid dealing with Knights and Dragons and such, like King Arthur, King Richard, Robin Hood, etc.
When in reality the Middle Ages was a period of time following the fall of the Roman Empire and took place all over Europe, not just in England.
So Farren, if you want to bring a wooden stake to faire next year, by all means do so! If anyone asks about it just tell them you are Vlad the Impaler. He was a King, or a Count, or some self important muckity muck from Romania. But he was a real Medieval character.

If I had my way, all those wearing gold lame fabric would be denied entry until all offending articles of clothing are removed. Does that mean you also have a list of attendees you are hoping show up in lame after this rule is implemented? Just asking. I personally own no gold lame fabric.

" That would be hysterical, but we're wouldn't be allowed to use pitchforks becuase it's the devils symbol. Which is why we aren't allowed to use forks when we eat. We could chase them with the foam swords from the games though. The ladies chased the Knight's like that after a kidnapping hehe. ^.^ *~Chelsea

Nah, swords won't work. They have to be *improvised* weapons! Villagers wouldn't have swords!
Pick up random sticks and branches, and we're in business!
And someone has to carry a torch. For some reason, there just has to be a torch.
