When people are treated well, they return. When treated like sh*t, they don't. That is the root source of a lot of the faire's problems. A change in leadership and attitude is required. Unfortuantely, this is something none of us can do. There is only one person who can, and he chose to keep the current leadership. Unless there is a change on that level, all the hard work and positive attitude will make little difference. This is not pessimism, this is reality. Under these conditions, you can hardly blame us for getting sarcastic on occasion. It's our way of dealing with the frustration. Wow you sound like a seasoned vetran. Like you have lived on the road. Almost as if you know what it is like to not have a shower and work for almost free. For some reason i dont think you would make it out there on the road. Major faires lose major acts all the time. New acts grow into major ones and move on. It is the way of the circuit. If you had any idea on cost of some of the larger acts you may have a different story to sing. If you knew what the production costs of the faire actually were maybe you wouldnt think u could fix it in a day, or with one new face. I think that you really dont have much of an understanding of it all. I have never sen a faire that is run like a well oiled business. They just dont exsist. You may think they do but they dont. oh and here take a look at a close faire's website like michigan. There is no useful info there. They dont feel the need to tell you every little thing they are doing. www.michrenfest.com/. Because all the people would do is find a reason to complain. Just like a lot of you do.

Wait for this summer. See for yourselves and make your judgements then. Well said.

We have our themes, we've had them, we are waiting for a reply from a "special guest" group to make it final....
can't say who it is, or it won't be a surprise. But it's cool , very cool. Something we've never done before.

It is sad to see our "children" leave us, but then any parent couldn't argue against that. Forgive me if this is brash, but as someone who loves both parties involved, I would like to say one thing that is bothering me...if you do in fact view your cast and crew as children that you've "parented and nutured" so to speak, why disown them from cast/crew board, why not call them, why take their offices away from them without even a courtesy call? Do parents neglect their children as you have done to your so-called colleagues, friends and family members? Why fight in such wicked ways? Do people really deserve that? I've always claimed there is not a whole heck of a lot I know in regards to the fight that preceeded all of this because there is ALWAYS a side no one will know -- the side that no one is privy to except for the specific parties involved...maybe some words were said and some accusations were made...this is beyond the point of being sad. I find myself getting angrier and angrier. I know that people can't get along and whatnot, but sugarcoating the story so that people will get on your side is not the answer (this goes to both sides!no one is COMPLETELY right!)...there shouldn't be a need for an answer! Grrr!!!! I shouldn't even be getting so worked up over this!!! You know why I'm angry? It feels like a huge pissing contest..."I'm better than you, no I'M better than you." If this doesn't stop soon....no one will be better than anyone...Can anyone but me see this? *throws up hands in disgust* Now no one will talk to me but I don't care! It's not like anyone is bending over backward for my vote or anything, I just call it as I see it...just an insignificant little fly on the wall that sometimes hears and sees too much.

No such thing as insignificant! I was very impressed with your performace this past year. I think your previous "parts" were sullied by "other circumstances" (like things that start with a W and a J!).
Anyways, I just want things to be like they were. It just doesn't seem like there is a party willing to take back the "deposed." I guess they are making their own "stand."
(sigh) Maybe next year...?

Ok, apparently I wasn't done with the first post tonight!
So, I don't understand why Shane is so angry at all this? I know he walked away from the faire a couple years ago; mostly for money reasons, but there was some "friction" between him and the "powers." I thought he had gotten over it, since he seemed OK the couple of times I saw him visit this past season. I am just not sure why all the negativity from him all of a sudden. Sara has been quite capable of defending herself. What is his stock in all this? Just curious...

Please dont pretend to understand why i walked away from the faire, or what my standing with those in charge is. It was with great sorrow that i parted ways with both Michigan and GLMF. At MRF I most definatly left with a bad taste in my mouth. I left this faire because my job pays me very well, and made faire an impossible part of my life. I do throughly miss being there. I miss the people, and i miss the job itself. When i parted ways i left the door open. I would most certainly be welcomed back if i so chose to return. I feel that the faire is run as well as can be expect too most of the time. It is true that i have had my moments with those in charge that i felt things were not dealt with correctly. Looking back on most of them i feel i would have made the same choices had i been in charge. I am trapped in a very peculiar place in the midst of the changes for 2005. Some of my dear friends will not be part of the faire this year, and yes it is a little hard to stomach at times. Yet it is the way of the world. Things change and sometimes even for the better. When Hack and Slash left, people were devistated. When the tortugas came people suddelny didnt feel so bad about it. The above is just an example. As for the root of my recent anger. If i were to constantly blast your soon to be wife (if you have a wife or even a girlfriend) you would understand. If i attacked your friends, and constantly put down something you strongly believed in, you would understand. People are not just attacking the managment of a company. People are launching personal attacks on my friends and my very soon to be wife. No matter what good they present to the viewers of this board, they are attacked for it. If i were in charge i wouldnt release any information to you. I would be silent. I would give dates and weekend themes and thats it. You would come to the faire, you would have fun. You would gripe about the changes i made. Then you would come back the next weekend because you had fun the previous. And thats all i have to say for tonight. Shane Cantrell

Ahh ha! You see how refreshing a heart-felt explanation can be? Thank you, Shane! I was just worried that you, too, were posting just out of blind anger. I can appreciate your postition with your fiance and friends because me and mine have also been there. So does this mean you might be back at GLMF? You were always good for a laugh at pub sing!!!

Personally I think the "Hardest Working Girl In The Faire" (Sarah) is an example of people like Sean.
I will wait till your heads stop spinning.
These two along with Richard, Peter, Greg, Brian, and both Christines are really the only ones I talked with at any length over the last 4 years I have been there.
Sarah works like a mad dog from the time I roll in till the time I left each day. I cannot conceive how much time she spends their off hours and season. I certianly hope she gets a % of the gate.
Sean spent an untold amount of time working with the newbies and veterans as well as the space cases (sword school). His efforts to develop the entire group of entertainers (actors, actresses) into one cohesive unit just makes me shake my head. Not including helping handle a myrid of problems both within management, acts, shows, improv, etc.
Jen, Peter and Christine, Prior C., Greg, Brian, and Richard also fall into this category. I have been amazed at the degree in which each took hold of an idea or theme and turned it into a wonderful experience for both me and the patrons. Their talent as actors blows my mind. I have been more impressed than you can imagine with their work to make this a better show than others.
I once came to auditions. I cannot describe how absolutely stunned I was to see the talent that comes here. I am not kidding. These people can do anything. I wonder if you people realize that these "simple street actors" have incredible skill!
At the audition I was given the opportunity to see the selection / adjustment process done by Brook. He not only praised them but also gave them suggestions on how to improve their auditions for the future. At one point he got up to demonstrate what he was suggesting to an actor. I will never forget the demonstration that little shave headed guy gave. Both Wolfe an I sat there with our mouthes agape at the way he brought to life that actors own demo! We were stunned.
I know you all have differences and maybe you believe that "this person" or "that person" is a dung heap of a personality. You also believe that some people are great at this or that job and not at others. (I agree on that point. )
We at the sword school have learned much and will try to make wise choices as taught to us by each of these fine people. We are teachers more than entertainers yet will strive to raise the bar in this coming year. Our goal is to give a wonderful and entertaining look at the past, give patrons new skills and an appreciation for what they see at the faire. We have decided this as a way of honoring those we have had the blessing to be around.

Why thank you Turk! Thats about the best thing any one here has said in days. And to every one else who has mentioned me or my wife or my good friends, thank you. It's nice to now someone associated with the faire still appreciates us and all the hard work, time, and energy, (not to mention money), that we have dedicated to the production for more combined years than I care to count. Thank you every one for your comments, And my love to all of you who have made my time at the faire the best years of my life. Maybe someday I will be welcome back as a part of the show.
