Sorry to hear that. But I will be happy to see you come visit. It always sucks when the real world intrudes upon our fun.

Yes, sadly, a lot of people I've talked to aren't coming back, but I won't name names. They will speak if they wish, and in any case, we shall all see when faire opens.
Unfortunately, I must count myself among those not returning as volunteer cast this year; there is a possibility (dare I say, hope?) that I will return in the future. This year, however, I missed auditions because of a family emergency, and that coupled with distance, logistics and (as so many others) finances, it's not practical for me to be volunteer cast this summer. I hope I get the chance again in the future; last summer was the best of my life to date.
I will definitely visit; I'm thinking about a season pass and spending two full weekends there to make it a worthy investment. Don't know when yet, or the logistics of that, but it's definitely something I intend to do.

The winds of change whipping through a painfully empty Shire, perhaps?? We playtrons just might have to entertain each other, eh?

I'm glad you all find this so funny. I spent a few words chiding a few people whose behavior wasn't the greatest, and if not hearing anything from them is a good thing, then I'm happy - but that's not the kind of vibe I'm getting. It still feels like there is a very severe division in the cast and it hasn't been resolved, nor will it be.
For many years I came to the Faire to be entertained and talk and have fun with the cast and the crew. I am sad to hear that now most of those people I knew won't be coming back. I know I scolded Richard and Brook for being children, but why aren't these people coming back? I used to laugh my butt off at the Burlap Brothers, and the ORIGINAL washer well wenches who have also been ostracized by the Faire, the last one of whom I guess is now gone with the rest of the pirates from last year. I can't imagine that the guy who played Merlin and the king twice won't be back! What about that? They're all gone! The guy who played Arthur that one year, the original Cirque du Soil members, that guy who played Bedivere with his "I've vanquished this road" - why aren't these people back!?!
I'm not asking for dirty laundry, but I haven't seen anything - ANYTHING - that makes its sound like this has been resolved. And what the hell does that mean for me, when I shell out my $50 for a season pass, to get a crappy show on the streets? I'm happy that Bardic Wind will be back, but they do, what, four shows a day? The Tortugas don't entertain ANYONE on the streets. I heard that the one washer well wench won't be back, and that takes them all away, doesn't it? Who's left?
But go ahead and laugh and make fun and joke away while this Faire is headed for an uncertain doom when people like me walk away because there's nothing left. There were so few vendors last year, is that going to be addressed? Every year there are less and less. They ran out of food one day for crying out loud! The cast is the one thing I thought we could always count on!
I hope there's better news coming. I hope that Brook gets a clue and gives some serious consideration and make sure that the strong foundation that was once the GLMF cast stays around. Otherwise, you get the same crappy street cast that other faires have because there isn't more than a handful of people who come back year after year. Maybe I shouldn't have said what I did, because maybe more would have been done by now.

Unfortunately, the people who find this "funny" are, sadly, in the dark when it comes to what has really transpired behind the scenes. Granted, there is the "he said, she said" factor, but don't you think there has to be some truth to the rumors going around, given that more than just a "couple" people are not coming back? Things are happening because change is needed, not because they do not want to be a part of the faire. This is happening because there are people who actually care about the faire and the performance quality. They will be back if changes happen....

Unfortunately, the people who find this "funny" are, sadly, in the dark when it comes to what has really transpired behind the scenes. ... Actually you are wrong. A lot of these people know a lot more than people belive they do. It is more a situation of either laugh or cry about it. Because the reality is, there is not one thing we can do to change what is happening to the faire!Sure we can bitch and complain. And we can boycott the faire. But that still is not going to change one single thing this season. With that said. The hope here is to try to keep things positive. (No, I am not going to sweep the dirty laundry under the rug). But faire is supposed to be about fun and friends. So I try to encourage fun on this board. Sure, a lot of things about the situation right now suck. And I wish it wasn't that way. But realistically dwelling on all the crap isn't going to fix anything, and it just puts people in a foul mood. I choose to find what there is that is good, and hope there is enough to make me want to go to faire. If you want to try and change things, find a way to contact Larry. He is the one holding all the cards.
