Man, gas prices went crazy this week. 50 cent jump since last Friday. It was $2.45, then it jumped to $2.77, now it's $2.97. I'm sure there is some kind of excuse due to the weather. Power outage at a refinery or something like that. Any excuse to screw the people that need it.

Gas prices are screwy here also. Sheetz in Chardon is $3.19 while the Marathon station up the road is $2.79. Guess where I filled up.

Well, last night was different.
The wife has been in Tennessee for the past week visiting her dad. She drove home yesterday. Got a call last night at 9 PM. She's on I71 in the median, and her car won't move. After a bit of back and forth I got her to figure out what mile marker she was near (202). So at 9:30 on a Thursday night I was on the road on a rescue mission. Then I get to the area a little after 11 and I can't find her car anywhere. I went up and down that stretch of 71 for almost two hours. No sign of her anywhere. So I drove home hoping that someone pushed her out and she drove home. Get home, no wife. Called her cell. She was sitting at the Loves at the Lodi exit because apparently the police and fire department showed up, and towed her car away. It seems she didn't just slide off the road due to heavy rain, but her car got blown across all 3 lanes of 71N and was in several pieces. None of this the wife realized when she first called me. So, I got to hop back in the car and drive back down there again and this time successfully pick her up. Got home at like 6:30 this morning and went to bed. Once she gets motivated today, she has to call the insurance company, and the tow company to arrange getting down there and emptying the car out. The main thing is she is basically unscratched and just a little stiff.

HOLY SHIT BRO!!!Glad to hear she is OKAY, that is the important thing. I would be a tad pissed if I was you that after driving half a state away (ok, bit of an exageration) that she could not have called you a second time to let know that "I am no longer at X, the police and FD relocated me to Y." Beats having you drive up and down I71 half the night looking for her. Sounds to me like she got caught up in that tornado that hit that part of the state that night. So, I guess she will be car shopping soon.

Good Lord, and I thought I was a damn caveman! Let's see...Drive from Conneaut to practically Mansfield, make forty eleven trips back and forth on I-71 looking for wife. drive all the way back home to find wife has left SECOND message on home phone stating new location. Jump back into car, drive to B.F.Egypt to pickup wife at new location, drive all the way back home and collapse into bed totally exhausted. BUY A DAMN PHONE DUDE...look at all the gas money and time you would have saved. Even a damn flip phone like I have (not smart enough for one o dem dare smart phones) could of saved you a lot of time, gasoline, and aggravation. Just sayin'
When you go back to retrieve personal items try and get pictures to post here, Glad she is OKAY, this could of turned out a lot worse.

The car wasn't as bad as I thought it would be from her description. The whole drivers-side front corner is gone. Just headlights left there. I got pics, but haven't done anything with them yet. We just got home a little bit ago and I am wiped out.
Glad to see you guys got back in. Still not sure why you were getting that error.

Here is a pic of the car Insurance confirmed they totaled the car. They told Lin a few of the issues over the phone, still waiting for something actually documented in writing. Apparently it has a cracked engine block and a broken frame which were probably the two biggest deciding factor.

HOLY SHIT BATMAN Did the wind alone do that kind of damage, or did it blow her into something solid like a bridge abutment? Did they ever find the fender or is it now on it's way to Timbuctoo? What exactly is the car? I can tell by the Bowtie in the front it's a Chevy, but what model? They make so damn many different kinds anymore. Look around, maybe she can get a good deal on a surplus M1 Abrams tank. Yeah, the gas milage will suck, but at a weight of 50 tons it will be hard to blow off the road, and you need not worry about someone cutting you off in traffic.

I don't know for sure, but am pretty positive she hit the fence in the median. In that area they have those cable/fence things to keep vehicles from crossing over into oncoming traffic. It was a 2016 Sonic.

Doesn't say much for how well made these new cars are, I mean even hitting a fence I wouldn't think it would completely rip off the fender, crack the engine block and break the frame. Was the fender actually held on with bolts, or did they just use those plastic push pins (AKA, christmas trees) that they use on the plastic inner fenders? The thought process these days is make em as cheaply as possible. Quality?!?! We don't need no stinkin Quality!

Pretty sure the cracked engine block probably resulted from the loss of the oil pan, and a large hole in the radiator. Especially since she was trying to get it to drive back up on the road after it happened but could only get it to go forward and back a few feet.
I know when I looked in, the knuckle for the front wheel was broken as well. She said the wheel was laying flat when it was up on the flatbed. They were pretty sure the wind is what took the fender off. From witness accounts her car was actually airborne when it went from the right lane to the median.
I found it kind of odd that her airbag never went off.

Amazing isn't it how Women will completely ignore all those flashing red lights on the instrament panel and will continue to try and drive the car. Silly things like no oil pressure, Battery not charging, engine overheating mean NOTHING to them. Bunnie blew up two cars that way. And way. back when a guy I know had his wife blow up the motor in his 64 GTO. The oil light came on while she was using the car and she felt the best course of action was NOT to shut off the engine but instead drove to that gas station he worked at to have him check it out.

To be fair, she was still pretty much in shock at that point. When she called me, she hadn't even gotten out to check out her situation. She was just trying to drive it. I made her stop for a minute and go look to see if she could see why she wasn't moving. When she got out, she saw her fender laying there and something under the car. It was dark, and still raining. I told her to just sit and wait, and I would be there when I could get there. She bought a new vehicle yesterday. She now has a 2019 Jeep Renegade. Don't ask me how much she paid for it, I have no clue. She already had money set aside as she was planning on trading in her Spirit this summer. Supposed to be getting like $4500 from the insurance company for her car. Attachments:
