As a woman myself, I have to respectfully disagree. A few wolf whistles, "hubba hubba's", and the occasional "woof" are hardly inappropriate. No one has made any propositions or used any inappropriate language.
Flirting at faire is practically a sport, and most of us know the rules and limitations (primarily touching and what I mentioned above). Those who go to far are dealt with accordingly. Most of the time it's just good fun. So you have nothing to worry about, Lady Marion.
On the new Robin Hood, I'll second Muirgen's "Woof!" with a "Meow"! (even though he is probably old enough to be my son, I'm still allowed to have a little fun! ;-))

I personally think the over-reactions are uncalled for.

I agree that in the past things have gotten a little blue. But you are dealing with a new cast member. This is not the reputation we are trying to propagate. In fact it is the exact reputation that has caused our decline in sales. Where I do understand your position, as directors, it is our job to nurture our cast and help them to feel they are in a safe environment. Remember this is a family show that we are talking about and blue humor will only scare away the exact demographic that will save the faire not to mention new cast members that breath life into our show. As for my use of the word "inappropriate" , I believe that if something is said that offends or objectifies a person then it is inappropriate. The words chosen obviously offended some. I think the "over reaction" (if it can be called that) exemplifies the offensiveness of the comments. I am glad you are pleased with the choices (of Actors), however.

Now, to be fair. There is a difference between a little flirting at faire, and comments made on a board. I didn't think anything of Hank's comment, as I know Hank. I know he is harmless, and just having a little fun. He is in fact a good hearted person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. But I can see John's point of scaring new cast and such. Our new Maid Marion doesn't know any of us. She hasn't met any of us, to really know what we are like. So it is much more likely that some comments won't be taken the way they are intended. It is hard to convey intent in type. You don't get the body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions that you do when talking in person. That is why it is much easier to joke around with people we know. They know how we normally behave, and what to expect from us. Hence things are usually taken in the manner they are actually meant. Flirting online is even harder. As you don't get the usually cues that you normally would in person to let you know when to back off because someone is uncomfortable.
I don't have any hard and fast rules on this subject, but I do ask members to exercise a little discretion. Joking around with someone you have known for a season or two is a lot different than trying to joke with a newbie. Try to keep that in mind. Especailly with the younger members. We want everyone to be able to have fun here and to feel safe here. We all know how tame and mild this place actually is (compaired to the net as a whole). But new members don't really know us or the board that well. Add to that, the extra intimidation factor of knowing that you will run into people here in real life at faire, and it can be a scary thing for those not familiar with us.

alright, so in short be careful with "old" cast and be extra careful with new cast so that they don't get uncomfy?
this thread's developing more than a little tension and i'd like to navigate back to "robin hood's awesome!"

Oh come now. You are old enough to know how the male mind works And after seeing the picture that John posted, I can see you should be used to attention from the boys. No! Personally I am also a little taken a back by the comments being made about both our lead roles. Just because a woman know how the male mind works and happens to be a beautiful and intelligent creature does not mean they should have to listen to the way the male mind works or be made to feel uncomfortable about comments made about them. For all of the Focus on Chivalry that there is at the medieval faire the comments made on this board are not a representation of that focus. Please try to be gentlemen and understand that these people are not just here to look pretty they are here to entertain and they put a lot of hard work and dedication in to there roles. ~Christine Prince Assistant Entertainment Director Whoa...How did I miss this little venture? Well...I am going to excercise my 1st admendment right here and stand up for my fellow patrons and friends. When did this faire become a bunch of over-sensitive, uptight, geritol-popping blowhards? Let's get one thing straight...this isn't the Official GLMF Forum. What is inappropriate are representatives from GLMF talking down on the bread and butter of GLMF, the patrons for just having a little fun. Flattery is a form of acceptance. Shame on you for not realizing that. The comments made were made in good fun by GOOD people...not to mention CUSTOMERS, who have a right on this board to voice thier OPINIONS about the faire they CARE PASSIONATELY about. We welcomed the new members in our own way, with open arms, and are chastised for it. Shameful, yet again. If certain cast members are a little perturbed by a *woof* comment or the occasional drool from Hank of all people, who is practically Santa Clause in a pirate outfiit, makes me really wonder if they are better off on a stage playing Lil Abner than of a interactive environment such as GLMF. Break a leg!

I tried. I tried really hard not to jump in, but it's just so hard when you all make it so easy. This is not coming from me as an official faire representative, this is coming from me as a person.
Let's remove the specifics of the situation and look at it simply.
A person, man or woman, is referenced by people they do not know in any way, as someone to be ogled or is ogled by someone. Flirted with, commented on, what have you.
At this point, it is up to the person being ogled, flirted with, commented at/on to decide whether or not the situation is appropriate for them, in their opinion.
I think everyone is taking this into their own point of view when, in reality, it is up to the person who is the subject of whatever is going on.
That means, quite simply, if the person is alright with the situation and it doesn't escalate into something beyond that which it should, no foul. However, if that person decides it is something they are not alright with, then the other must cease and desist.
Make sense? Can we all agree on that?
Now then, let us please return to our previous conversations and understand that everyone will have their own opinion on such things. People's life experiences have been different and therefore some will feel more strongly one way or the other, welcome to the world.
In the end, no one is wrong for their opinion. What some may view as overreaction may be completely acceptable given previous life experience. What some may view as too little reaction may be completely acceptable given previous life experience.
Beyond that, step back and realize that if you don't know someone at all, don't know what they look like, what they are like, whether or not they are someone to worry about, then yes, comments like this can be quite unnerving.
