Hopefully I am not opening a can of worms with this one, but I thought I would put it out there.
Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to improve the shire? I'm not talking about getting different performers, new acts, or more cast. I'm talking more about site improvements. Things that can be fixed-up or changed to make moving around the faire, or watching shows more enjoyable.
I figure now would be the time to throw some ideas out there for the PTB to mull over and consider during the off season.

I know one that I have would be to put some more gravel around the chessboard stage. This season it turned into a muddy mess in the bleacher area. There were some big crowds there every day, so even though we only had a few rainy days, it still turned into a swamp. A couple more port-a-potties back there wouldn't hurt either. There was usually a decent line waiting to get into the 2 that were back there.

Bring back the Haggis and the Mead! Who cares of only three people buy them. It's part of the atmosphere that the patrons are paying for!

More seating in the chessboard area would be nice-we had to stand everytime we went over for a show.

Maybe add some shade at the front gate with some trees and the walk up to the shire on the side that Sword School is on.

The tournament field needs overhauling, both aesthetically and from a functional standpoint:
1) Fencing has been falling down for years. It's hard to keep mundanes off the field when there are gaping holes in the fence, plus it looks really shabby.
2) The field surface itself could stand to be graded, with any serious divits and post holes filled in. I don't want to be around the day a horse goes down and doesn't get back up.
3) Seating - well, it's very, very uncomfortable, and has been for years. Probably too expensive to completely replace or (better yet) permanently install individual rows rather than bleachers so it would be level for the patron's backsides, but it can still be on a wish list!
Oh, and I'll definitely second the "bring back the mead!" request. I'll pass on the haggis, though!

Oooh, mead... yeah, I can't buy any myself or have any during faire hours, but... mead! My wish that more than likely will never be fulfilled ~ better pathways! The large gravel is absolute hell on one's feet, especially if you're there all day and walking all day. Boot soles get worn to nothing over the course of the season, and it wouldn't matter if they were like new, after a full day at faire you still feel every single rock. The gravel was slightly finer this year, but is it too much to ask for itty bitty gravel, rather than the big boulders we have now? My feet beg! Other than that... I'm not picky. That's my only major problem with the faire site, and it's really more of a personal comfort thing than anything. ^^; It's not like a faire day is comfort and roses, after all!

Oh...you mean you don't like the large chunks of I-90 on the pathways? What's the matter with you?! God forbid they have to spend more money on smaller pea gravel..

Here's an idea..cedar chips/shreads on the ground over the gravel.. Fragrant and is easy on the feet.

Ok, since no one else mentioned it, I will. This was discussed among a few people. Some kind of roof or covering over the pub stage areas. It would be great on those rainy days. People wouldn't have to leave. They could be protected from the rain, and still be close to the food and the pubs and entertainment. The faire would make more money, as they would keep more people in the shire when the weather turns bad. Would also make a nice shady area as well, instead of sitting out in the sun.
I'm not talking about a permanent roof, as that would be too much, but something more like a circus tent without the sides and not as high. Though high enough to make it feel nice and open but still serve as protection and cover. Maybe string a few period looking lights in it for darkened stormy days.

They should put up a few roofs/tents threw out the place in case people want to get out of the sun, rain, or just sit

Not a bad idea. They did have a few this year. The one across from the feast hall under the trees. The one next to Fryer Pluck's is also a good place to sit and relax.

Regarding the gravel, the larger pieces of gravel and I-90 asphalt will eventually pack down to form a solid base for any future surface. As for price, not sure what it is exactly, but I know Larry has spent several thousand dollars on gravel.
Take a look at the "Old World" section of the faire, aside from a few puddles, the drainage has improved immensely. After a few more years of base gravel in the New World, it should do the same. Then maybe they can use a more comfortable surface.

This isn't really a rennovation idea but something that I thought was nice at the Pitt Faire. On sundays they had a non-denominational church service at 11am. we could do that on the stage called St Julian's chapel at our faire. I think it is a nice thing to do for those people that feel bad about missing their church for a day at the faire.
