Well folks, I think we've hit one nail on the head...the thing is...do WE have the power to change that...and frankly...since this has been an on going thing, I'd say...no. I doubt we as Playtrons/Paytrons can convince Larry to let go of the reins to some extent to let people do their job...not sure if anyone on Staff can do that either since, as we've noted, this has been going on for awhile. We, having our "ins" and "ways" to find out info are not the ones directly affected...others who don't have such connections (mundanes) or who trust Web Sites for info are the ones that are left hanging high and dry...what to do, what to do? All very true. I do want to take a moment to point out a few things though. We do have some valid concerns, and sometimes Larry's way of doing things can be extremely agrivating. But I think it is only faire to give him some props too. The man does get the faire open every year. That in itself is no small feat. He does put his heart and soul into it when he is up here. (yes, he does kind of forget about it when he isn't but that is probably because he is throwing himself fully into what he is working on then) You will not find someone with a better work ethic than Larry. The man is all 'go'. He doesn't know how to take it easy and enjoy the fruits of his labor. He might make it harder than it needs to be, but he always pulls it all together, and gives us all an amazing 6 weekends.

Calendars will be available at great lakes mall for purchase starting Oct. 7. (unless corporate changes things on me). I'm there weekdays until around 5:30. Stout will be working with me as his schedule permits. So you all can mark 7/7 on that.

now if we can get some one to get the contracts out at a certain date, the food ordered, grounds crew lined up, the venders liscences ready, season passes and tickets ordered, and someone to get the sundry of other things that need done, done, faire will go as scheduled.

Quality of effort is normally in direct correspondence with compensation. Understaff, underpay and rely on volunteers and you get minimal production.

Good point Blue. God bless the volunteers. Some give their heart and soul but most do it because its fun.

Just to be clear, I am not knocking anybody's efforts on this. Those who do work, volunteer or get wrangled in all do a fine effort during the season. But a business should not plan to rely on the kindness of it's customers to advertise, repair or otherwise operate. And before anybody gets any grand ideas about next year, think about where you parked this past season... A little closer? A lot closer? Traffic was down. Budgets will be tight. No fussing that the office does not get passes sent out early next year from you all. Things will be close and tight again next season to save costs (if they are smart about it). So choose your battles before you complain. And have some low cost ideas about how to fix them.

No fussing that the office does not get passes sent out early next year from you all. Won't be no fussing from me. But then, there won't even be an attempt at any internet purchases from me this time around. I learned my lesson.

Really, unless you need to barge in the second the gate opens, even opening day does not have horrendous lines to renew a pass. However, I know that those of you who buy in advance help the staff make those start up purchases to get week one under way with supplies in stock. So don't hold out making your pass a preorder on pure principle.

Edit: I don't like where I'm going with this conversation, it's pretty much exactly what was asked not to happen and I apologize for that. It's enough for me to say that I prefer to get my tickets at the gate and I'll leave it at that.
