ALL you would have is a Medieval Faire?? That's enough for me! ;D I believe there is a constant "theme" to a Faire...music, good food and drink and fellowship...don't have to scheduel that at all!

Themes are great. Didn't you know, you can't have a faire without themes? If you didn't have any themes, all you would have is a medieval faire . . . "Can't" OR "Won't" "Impossible" OR "Hasn't been done yet" Having themes isn't a necessity, but if you are going to have themes, at least make sure they correspond with the overrall feel of the venue you are presenting. Medieval England, last I checked, did not have Romans in togas running around court.

True...but Sherman, set the "Way Back" machine to about 43 AD and we can find them stomping about the place much to the chagrin of the Celtic peoples...Maybe this weekend will give guys an excuse to dress up like Russell Crowe in "Gladiator"!!! (hopefully, they'll be able to carry it off!)

Acutally...it would seem the themes have little to do with the overall "time period" of the Faire (13th century)...I think it's more to give people a chance to wear different garb....lets face it...outside of China and those waters...not alot of Pirates cruising the waters near the British Isles in the 13th century...and when there were, it was the Vikings around 800-1100 AD...well before the time set for Avaloch....so...it's about what to wear and when to wear it...and just have fun! ;D

Indeed there were Romans tromping all over Britain, ever heard of Hadrian's Wall? Built between 122 and 128 A.D. Now, I would think England's "wonderful" climate would preclude the wearing of togas, BUT!!! Ya never know. I mean I saw kids running around in the latest blizzard in jeans cut off at the knees. And lets face it, our faire has never been a stickler for historical accuracy. And on the part of the patrons you CAN'T be! You have people dressed as Attila the Hun barbarians, Vikings, Knights in shining Armour,Renaissance clothing (which time wise was the 1400 to 1600) Pirates, and anything and everything that suits their fancy. And as long as they are having fun, who really cares!? Ya want historical accuracy, watch the History Channel! But!If ya just want to play dress up and have fun go to GLMF. Myself...I really don't give a diddly damn what the theme is as I have a very limited amount of clothing so I just wear what I got no matter what the theme is. HANK.

Thank you, dear lady. As always I try and inject a little humor. Some folks just take this stuff way too serious. Me, I just go with the flow and try and enjoy the ride. HANK.

Kit I loved the historically incorrect list. I don't know of anyone who ever got a history degree fron Hollywood. Although their version is a lot more fun Sue

I think, that if the themed weekends didn't change up, at least a a little bit...some people could get bored with the repetition. But some may not, it's all on personal opinion. And historical accuracy...with the King Arthur theme...it would be kind of hard because theres so many different versions of the story, and no one is sure if, where, when, why and so on. But it was within the 6th century...so that would be the 500's...and not a lot is actually known about the Dark Ages...hence the name. So, there's room to have fun and make stuff up. ^.^
GLMF is more about fun, if you really want accuracy, there's a bunch of SCA's out there people can join. Just google it, I'm sure you'll find the website.
I've also seen some people dress as Victorian Age Vampire's last year haha. There's no requirement on costumes or anything...just come to have fun!

I actually kinda like the Roman holiday better than carnivale, to be honest. There are some beautiful traditional Roman dress and gear that aren't the little short weeny-teeny togas.
I like it when the "additional" music is lined up with the theme. I actually didn't mind the Oompa band the one year, because the king and queen actually "polka-ed" through the lane. Very sweet.

Yeah, Mitch... not so much Medieval, but it was fun...
They were very loud! (but better than the Caliopy music, I think...)
