A little disappointed in some of you who claim to love the faire so much. I would think that you should be happy that you finally have the themed weekends. The Birthday Bash makes perfect sense to me it is the 16th year of the faire, dah!!!! It is a celebration, what a great concept and hopefully it will get some new people in the gate. I know my kids are excited about the sweet 16 celebration, I think it is something that kids can relate to. I am so glad that the faire hasn't forgotten about our kids and that they do try to include them. My little girl wants to dress up as a little princess now for opening weekend. I for one love Roman Holiday. My friends and myself go so elaborate to decorate our Togas which is easier for us because we don't have a lot of money to buy some nicer costumes that people wear at the faire. We can sew enough to make our togas and each year we add a little more to them to make them look nicer. I have seen some pretty elaborate togas which gives me ideas. Besides it is nice to dress up in something other than Medieval attire all the time and it is a costume that anyone can put together on limited funds. Like someone already said it is also something that everyone can relate to. I for one didn't know what a Medieval Faire was my first year and my friends had to drag me here, so if it helps get new faces I am all for it.

Hey...Woah! Chill "Guest"...discussing personal preferences is in no way dissing the Faire. If folks want to walk around in bedsheets...more power to them (provided they don't use the fitted ones, the puckering is not flattering!)... Oh, and "Sponge Bob sheets"? That is so "Last year".
I guess there are those of us who knew what the words "Medieval" and "Faire" (usually spelled with an "e" as opposed to State Fair...(sans "e") means...so putting the two together invokes images of Faires held during the Medieval period whether they be for Holy Days, celebrations of planting, harvest...what have you.
As to the 16th year of the Faire...okay...Huzzah! Playtrons are always open minded about the Themes. Let’s face it, unless your Turkish...there weren't alot of pirates around the 13th century, so we do know how to bend...we're just discussing personal likes on themed weekends...nothing more. Is "Roman Holiday" going to keep me from coming? No...but would I like to see a "Come as you were" (past life costumes) or "Myth, Lore and Legend" Weekend (Mythology from the world over, heroes, villains, Gods/Goddess)? Sure. And Faires should always have their helping of magic, faeries, wizards and unicorns, etc...

If "Roman Holiday" seems to be something the "masses" can understand then I sadly fear we are bowing to the "lowest common denominator" ie. Anyone can throw on a sheet and do John Belushi impressions....surprised they don't have a "Jell-O Eating Contest". *sigh* "Arabian Knights" would have been more desirable, I agree! As to "Her Majesty Princess' Sweet 16th Birthday Bash."......I'm getting visions of "Enchanted" now running through my head...wonder if they've managed to get the birds, raccoons, deer and such wildlife to commit to practicing songs a la Disney...? My Acorn Americans would just love to help with that.................Travis wants to know if there's anything with a drum solo?! ;D ;D ;D

Alright, the 16 years of GLMF makes much more sense now.
I'm just envisioning a bunch of drunken men counting down to when the chastity belt is taken off.. Sixteen *is* all legal in Ohio.

Perhaps there are still plenty of frogs in the old Griffin pond.

I contacted them...right now their practicing for "THE FROGS" by Aristophanes....but they assured me they'd be done before Faire opens...unless fame goes to their lil' green slimy heads....

Themes are great. Didn't you know, you can't have a faire without themes? If you didn't have any themes, all you would have is a medieval faire . . .
