This year it's "Pirate Invasion". The Brotherhood of the Coast (Pirates) is coming for a trail, somebody killed Black Jack's little brother Little Joe.

someone once told me that the Pirates didn't happen until the 17th century and the town of Avaloch is set in the 1200's. And what are Carribean pirates doing in England anyway??

Well...I suppose they could be Turkish Pirates...they had those back in the 1200's...as far as Carribean Pirates in England...uh....really high tide?? I now have the urge to sing "Time Warp"....again....

* double sigh * A couple of things... First, I agree with the "why pirates in 1200 England" questions. I have never liked pirates in the shire, because they are always depicted as 17th century Carribean pirates - even when they were played by our mutual friends, BlackKnight. (BTW, I miss them very, very much at rehearsals, and I do look forward to at least seeing them at the shire again as an independent act this year.) BUT - there have been pirates of one form or another for as long as there has been a shipping trade. Playing King Arthur this year, I have decided to view them as "coastal raiders", which *was* a prevalent problem in the middle ages, particularly during the times of the "real" King Arthur of the 6th century. But there you go again - what is a 6th Century king doing in the 12th? The bottom line is this - we have set up this faire for *years* as a *Medieval Fantasy* faire. We speak Elizabethean English because if we spoke true Middle English, no one would understand us. We have done stories of Robin Hood, King Arthur, and even brought together Alexander the Great vs Ghengis Khan last year for pity's sake! We have *faeries* walking around! At least pirates existed in reality! Our excuse has always been that "the proximity of the magic in the faery forest allows visitors from the future ..." So now we've stretched it to include pirates as part of the storyline. Really, does it matter? I say no, it doesn't. It's all just a vehicle to share stories, laugh and have a good time. That's the real reason we all love GLMF, isn't it? I certainly don't think it's because of the tight integration of previous storylines from past years! So let's do just that (share stories, laugh and have a good time), and leave the moaning and groaning behind, can't we? Greg / Arthur

not complaining just stating a fact oh and i think the 1200's would be considered 13th century. I really enjoyed the robin hood theme, we should do that one again....

Uhhh...Nyneve...do you want to address this or should we just leave it up to the Faerie Council?

There is a simple explaination to it all. The creator can do whatever they want (Brook). Plus, its funnier this way. They didn't have styrofome back then, but they had a styrofome stone (Pheonix Stone) all the same.
