Just want to give everyone a heads-up. Starting at the begining of May, Pro-Boards (the service that provides this BB for us) is upgrading to version 4. Starting May 2nd they will start upgrading a few servers a day until they are done. Since we are on server 27 it won't take long to get to us. When that time comes, this board will be down for anywhere from 10 hours to a whole day. They will be backing everything up before they upgrade each server, so even if there is a problem, nothing should be lost. They are also supposed to put up a warning message on the board 24 hours before it is taken off-line for the upgrade. I know it sounds like things will be down for a long time, but it will be worth it. There is going to be a huge amount of new features in the newer version. Both for you guys to play with, and for me to get the feel for. (one of them being who can make additions to the calendar) There is so much coming, I am still going through the partial list of improvements / new features (the partial list is over 120 items ) I'm looking foreward to the changes, and glad they are happening before faire season. That way I can get the board tweaked with the new options and get it all set up before the flood of new users and posts.

Just to let everyone know. When the upgrade takes place everyone is going to have to log back in again. You will be required to enter your birthdate (one of the ways they are checking to make sure all users are at least 13 years old) You will have the option to allow people to see your birthdate, or keep it hidden.
The reason I am mentioning this, is you will have to remember your password. Also, you will have to re-activate your account. This means your email address you used to register for this board will have to be working. They will email you an activation code that you will have to enter into a field here on the board.
I know, it's going to be a bit of a pain at first, but the upgrade to V4 will be worth it. A lot of new features, including a spell check for those of us like me that can't spell to save their lives.

The spell check will be a welcome addition. I always preview my posts before posting, make sure they make sense before they go "public". Less likely to embarass myself that way.

For anyone who is interested here is a listing of some of the new features that will be in the upgrade V-4As you can see, it is quite a bit. After I get familiar with all the new controls, I will probably disable some of them and give everyone a chance to get used to things a little bit at a time. After people get comfortable, I will keep enabling a few more features at a time until things are set up that I want. Also, I don't know if this applies to anyone here. But if you are using and AOL email address, you might want to change it. Seems AOL doesn't like ProBoards and filters out their emails. So you won't be able to get your activation code if you have an AOL email address in your profile.

ahh, this is a wonderous thing! Where would we be without spell check? Where would Simon be without spell check? We would not be able to understand a thing! Thank you Trevor, you think of everything!

I can't take the credit for it. I'm just passing along what is going to happen. ProBoards are the ones upgrading the software. They are the ones that supply these boards for free.
I just customize the look, and set up some of the other features. Most of which I learned about on the ProBoards support forum.

We should be getting upgraded some time next week. They are going to start the upgrades on Monday. They hope to be done by Friday.

We should be seeing the notice that the board will be upgraded in 24 hours either tonight or tomorrow, so hopefully we should be upgraded by Friday.
Heads-up - right after the upgrade, the extra smilies I have on here won't function. I have to go in and edit some code after the upgrade takes place. So if you get on between the time that the board is upgraded and I get a chance to fix things, you know why they aren't working.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, we have the 24 hour notice up on the board now. Went up around 7:30 AM EST. So the board will probably go down Saturday morning.
Upgrade times are averaging around 30 hours now (not the 'up to 24 hours' that the notice states) So we probably won't be back up again until Sunday afternoon.
