We all know at least one. Some have even been lucky enough to have lived a story or two. So, i think that to draw inspiration and such we should share our stories here; whether they be personal expirience or a folktale passed from your family. It's really late, so i'll post ome when it's not so dark and creepy. I've lived a few that would chill you to the bones.

I've lived two myself. One that wasn't so bad and hardly noticeable. The other was pretty scary at times. Bad enough that I'm glad we had to give up the house. I'll tell the 2nd one. My apologies if this is too long. I'll do my best to shorten without spairing any details. It's giving me the creeps just thinking about it.
In 2004 the wife and I were making very good money. We bought 9 acres with a large pond/small lake right across the street from a State Park down here in the Akron area. The lot was completely surrounded by trees and very secluded. It had been the site of a nightclub back in the 30's or 40's or so I was told by locals and had been a little-league baseball field back in the seventies. At the time I had a Ford Expedition equipped with back-up sensors. The day after we paid-off the land we drove out to admire it. It was night and there was no light what-so-ever. We drove down onto the lot and just sat in the car for a bit. All of a sudden, my back up sensors would go off. They started slow then got faster and faster like I was going to hit something. This went on for at least 10 mins. It finally made us leave. It could've very well been animals but it escalated so fast and in the same pattern everytime like something was deliberately moving up to the back of the car at the same pace repeatedly. We wrote it off as animals.
I stopped out frequently to watch the house building progress. Even in broad daylight the land and inside the partially built house was just creepy. I never felt comfortable there when I was alone or with my wife. We wrote this off as, well us just being crazy I guess.
We finally move in to our big bright beautiful white house. Lots of windows and open rooms. Nothing about it should seem creepy. The first night there we were terrified. We heard bangs and bumps all night long. I have never been in a house with this much noise at night. We figured it was just a new house settling. We eventually got used to it.
From when we moved in, our luck just got horrible. My wife goes to work one day to find out her $100,000/yr job is gone. Her company just folded without a word to anyone. 6 months later I lose my job and we were informed that another builder is sueing us saying we copied there house. Oh yeah, I was also rear-ended in a car accident that my back is just now getting back to normal from. We survived on our savings for another year and a half.
We had turned a bedroom upstairs into an office. That is where I spent many late nights job hunting and gaming after everyone went to bed. Everynight at least once I would hear footsteps come down the hall to that door (just telling this is really creeping me out bad) and there was never anyone there. I would wait thinking it was my wife coming in but that was rarely the case. I was terrified every night to leave that room thinking I was going to see something standing there. I literally ran out of that room everynight past all the other bedrooms. I frequently got so scared in that room that I had to just get out and run downstairs. Whenever I was up there, I had to have every light on in every room upstairs.
We had a large clock made out of mirrored glass in the hall near that room. One night, I heard what sounded like someone hitting a window with very small rocks. I figured it was just wind blowing a tree branch against a window. A few days later we noticed small cracks in that clock like someone had been shooting it with a bb gun. Now it gets better...
We had a den on the front left side of the house. We never furnished it because we ran out of money. I started hearing what sounded like two men having a normal conversation in that room. It was very hard to hear and I could never make out what was being said. It only lasted for a minute or two at a time. By the time you would notice it, it would stop.
Our daughter was less than a year old and we had her crib right outside the master bedroom which was on the first floor. (getting creeped out again). She would frequently start gigglnig and wiggling around in the crib like someone was tickling her. She never woke up or seemed upset by this. The crib was maybe 6 ft from the double doors to the master bedroom. I was downstairs late one night watching TV. She had a bout of this giggling that lasted about 30 seconds then I saw one of the double doors open. I expected to see my wife come out to check the baby. That never happend. I went in the bedroom and she was sound asleep. These doors were tight against the carpet and could not have blown open from a breeze or a draft.
Another night, I was in the same place watching tv and something said my name plain as day. The best way I can describe it was that it sounded like a long dragged out whisper (very creeped out remembering this).
So finally the day comes when we have to move out. Most of our stuff was out and I was sweeping up a bit in the basement. I was the only one in the house. I hear women talking upstairs. Again to low and soft to make-out any words. I figure my wife is back and has her Mom with her. Hoping for lunch to be here I go upstairs to find noone there. I go back downstairs. We still had 3 heavy iron bar stools left in the kitchen. About 5 mins after I get back downstairs I hear one of those bar stools being dragged across the tiled kitchen floor right above me. I go back upstairs to find nothng moved.
I'm not a very spiritual person and if someone told me this story 7 years ago I would've thought they were nuts. I know what I experienced. I don't really want to know or think about what the cause was. Sorry so long. I hope it was a decent read.

Maybe I'm crazy and maybe there are explanations for everything I experienced. I've had a few years detached from the situation to think about it and I can't think of any logical reasons for my experiences there. Whatever was going on seemed to happen to me more than anyone else. But I was usually the only up late at night. There has been a family living there for a few years now. I don't know them but they seem to be putting money into the place. They must be comfortable there.

John M, Interesting read.
My story is more of a premonition/ghost story as told to me by my mother.
background: Mom and Dad come from Ireland. They had three girls and one boy about 1 year AFTER moving to the states. This story happened while they were still in Ireland.
My Mom's, mom, (my Grandma) was very sick and not going to make it. My mom was spending the nights with grandma at her house. My mom slept in her old bedroom and my dad slept downstairs. (Mom was in a single bed.) Mom was very worried about grandma and didn't sleep too well. One night she was up reading. The room was softly lit. All of a sudden she felt a small weight at the bottom of her bed. When she looked up from her book, a blond haired little girl about the age of 10 was sitting on the end of the bed. Next to the bed were two more little girls. One was brown haired and the other was blond. They were younger than the 10 year old. Maybe 5 and 7 ish. They spoke to my mom and told her everything would be fine. Your mother will be happy and fine and she will always take care of you.
My mom says she was not scared or worried. She felt something familiar about the three little girls. She went downstairs to tell my dad. She says dad gave her a hug and said all will be fine. My Grandma passed away the next day and my parents moved to the states 6 months later.
Skip ahead about 9 years later. My mom is sick in bed (Not deathly, but bad). Her three girls bring her breakfast in bed and tell her all will be fine because Grandma Brady came to visit them and told them! Mom says it was the exact same as when three little girls visited her 10 years ago that were not even born yet. She insists it was us that visited her just before Grandma died.

Wow Kat! Thats crazy but comforting in a way. I'm just glad I didn't see anything. I don't want to go through that again. At times it was impossible to relax in that house. Towards the end of our time there, the wife and I were looking over our shoulder all the time.

Strange story I went to a seminar last summer and heard a familiar story. I've worked in nursing homes and with elderly people for about 25 years at Heather Hill a lady who had no family and never in the 6 years I was there had any visitors started to tell the staff about a little boy who came to visit her he wore blue jeans a striped shirt and ball cap. None of us ever saw him and he would just come in and talk to her. About three weeks after he started visiting her she died. The speaker at the seminar was from Colorado he started to talk about his patient who had a visitor from a little boy and described the same thing, his patient died a few weeks after the visits started coming. A man from Texas was there and had been an administrator at two nursing homes several miles apart and in both the same thing , everything down to discribing the same clothes. After the seminar several of the socail workers and nurses were talking about the speaker's story and many of us had similiar experiences with patients over the years amny times they were the same little boy. Some saw relatives children who had passed and friends they knew when they were young. None of them were afraid but had similiar stories. I no longer doubt when my clients talk about seeing people that no one else see.
Once when my daughter and I were driving in a terrible storm to Michigan we were talking and my 3 year old granddtr. repeated a saying that my grandmother used to say. My grandmother died several years before my grand dtr. was born. I asked who told her the saying and she said "Grandma Sylvia", when we asked when did she ever talk to grandma Sylvia she said, "in heaven before I came here". My dtr. never told her about that kind of thing partly because her dtr. was only a baby and my dtr. freaks out at stuff like that and won't talk about it or stick around if others do. I strongly believe in that sort of thing but my 3 year old grand dtr. even gave me the chills when she quoted my grandmother verbatum. Strange but true.....

Crash, In a way, that is kind of cool. A little visitor to make your passing easier and possibly more enjoyable. Also, it looks like your granddaughter got to meet her great-grandmother. That is something.

Great place to go for Halloween. Other then the faire. Yes... The Mansfield Reformatory : Uh,---when I worked at Saber Healthcare Nursing Home a daughter of a resident brought in some photos she took of the Mansfield Reformatory. In the upper corners of the photos were small globes of light. The daughter explained that she took the photos to a professional photographer and to a psychic ---and they both said that the globes were unexplainable. But,---the psychic said that they were evidence of paranormal activity/ and or ghosts... Obviously, the daughter had not seen them when she was shooting the photos. The globes only showed up later on the final pics... COOL.

Not sure if this was the group that went to my son's place that he was living at the time but that house was active while I was there! Came to know the mans name was Peter and he just needed to be known that he was there. He would even come home with us and do his little things to the point I told him to stop here in my house in a mean voice and he just went back to our son's place when we went back. One time going to the bathroom and having the shower curtain fly in your face with no windows in the room or just putting the day to rest and for no reason watching the ceiling fan go backwards. There is so much more with me but need to see the dawn also

This happened in the upstairs of our house about 4 years ago :
It was a very hot day and we had no air-conditioning at the time. I was sitting on the couch upstairs alone, half-dozing.
I saw or thought I saw a man legs, just from the waist down, running very fast into the back bedroom. His legs were covered with those vertical striped pants that used to be worn by gentlemen a hundred years ago. And he was wearing old-fashioned shiny black high-heeled boots.
I told a friend about this experience. ( He is a gifted psychic and reader. ) He said that it was probably a " psychic impression".
Later, I learned from a neighbor whose family have always lived in this area that about a hundred years ago a little girl died in the back bedroom of our house.
Our house is 137 years old.
My daughter has also seen figures standing in the upstairs livingroom. The figures are always dressed in old-fashioned clothes, a little girl and a lady.
But,---we haven't seen anything for a while...
MANY, MANY old houses have ghosts or---memories...
