I have talked to some people in the area who tried to download the registration form from the link above. Can you help with the location of the form from the home page. The Calendar and Event links have no mention of the classes. What are we doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can provide with this.

Mitch- If you go to the website for the Center for the Arts, there is a link for an "all-purpose" registration form. I assume that is what Christine was referring to? www.solonarts.org/home.asp (class enrollment form on the left-hand side) And in their winter catalog there is an entry for a Hand-to-Hand Stage Combat class that John is teaching, running from February through April. So perhaps this class on the 29th is an extension of that....however, I didn't see any mention of the sword class there. But Christine is the Theater Education Coordinator for the Center, so it is probably safe to say that she wouldn't lead us astray.... Erin

You have GOT to be kidding me. I cannot believe, after John's tyrade and dissing of the faire and those who work/play there is nerve to ask us to pay him for some class? I'd rather keep my cash, thank you.

I'd rather keep my cash, thank you. You are entitled to your opinions. But it cannot be denied that John is well known on the circuit, and is an excellent performer. Regardless of what happened at the end of faire last season, he still has a lot of wisdom and the ability to teach it. Look at how good our chess match was. Look at all the other acts on the circuit that he has helped get started. So, if you are looking to get into stage combat, I wouldn't snub your nose at his class. OTOH, if you want to learn about real combat, I would go with Sword School myself.

You are welcome to your guffaws. But as someone who has taken fight classes by him, you are missing out. He is such a talented teacher and knowledgable combatant. By keeping your cash, you are missing an opportunity to learn. I encourage one and all to take it! Enjoy!

Glad to see you guys figured out how to get the registration. The website for the center can be a little funky. The class is not up on our website yet, however I assure you that it is being offered in our upcoming Spring Catalog. If anyone has any trouble registering for this class they can call my office phone (440) 337-1401 and I will register them myself.
As for the negative comment made previously I have a few things to say. I, not John, posted this message because I hired John as a teacher at the art center where I work. I did this because I believe him to be a wonderful teacher and we are luck to have him in Solon. The kids there love him so I thought I would open a class up for adults. I posted it here and on NEOohio Pal because I thought that many of the people who are interested in stage combat may want to take this intensive because there are so few classes of this kind in the North East Ohio area. Especially from truly talented teachers like John. Secondly, I challenge you to go back in the records and show me exactly where John ever dissed the fair or went on a tyrade. His statement was simple and he never said anything more than he was proud of the work that the cast did and that he had a difference of opinion with the owner. That was all. It hope that many of you come take the class as I think it will be a great experience for anyone who wants to hone their stage combat skills. I Look forward to seeing you all this summer as well.

I'd rather keep my cash, thank you. As usual...another ignorant fool hiding behind a guest account. Makes you feel really big huh? John's belly lint has more talent than most of us combined, so anything he does to improve the cast's performance is worthwhile. As for charging for the lesson, the man has to make a living, give him a break. John didn't "diss" the faire. His reasons for leaving were just and as disappointed as I was, his work and reputation would have been sullied if he had to continue under the situation he was in. I would rather him spread his knowledge at a venue where he is permitted to do so than to be hindered under the influence of shady business practices.

Still need more people to sign up if the class is going to run. This would be a perfect opportunity for those of you who are hoping to make it into a chess match or other stage combat show this year to really work on your skills. ~Christy

I would absolutely ADORE this opportunity. I really wish I wasn't 4+ hrs away at school.
If you have the chance to do this, but aren't quite sure: DO IT!! Don't miss out! There is NO DENYING John knows his stuff! regardless of your opinion of him.
