What a joy to see so many of you again and meet new folks! Thanks for introducing yourselves, Kat and fairmomrita. It was very nice to finally meet you, also. Get some much needed rest. I will stop in again next weekend.

Clover -
Just curious about your inexperienced comment in that quote. Not trying to put you on the spot, just curious what you meant. I think they are great. They have huge tallent for ones so young. I couldn't believe how much better they seem than last year, and I was impressed by them last season. Not saying you are wrong, as everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and everyone agreeing on everything would be boring. Just curious what makes them seem inexperienced to you.
Kat- Health to the Company is Owain's song at GLMF. You won't find a performer in the shire that will do it without him. Occasionally the cast will sing it outside closing gate, but that's about it. Sadly, this season, we will only get to hear it at 4 pub sings.

No Programs! DUMB DUMB DUMB No Sword School DUH Heat Exaustion.. not cool..... pun intended. Need more vendors
Good things: Having newbies to show around the place Awesome acts to watch Seeing Greg while I was in the parade and giving him a hug.... where did he go anyway... i didn't get to talk to him, didn't see him the rest of the day. E Muzieki New garb keeping the sherriff in line the pickle goddesses
As for the jousting. We were sitting in the shade so the view wasn't good. They could have done away with the fighting on foot and the beating each others' heads with the baton and just done the jousting and I would have been happy. The actual joust was impressive but they didn't stop in between. It was continuous. And considering the weather they were probably trying to "just get it over with" I mean they were in shiny full plate armor in the 95 degree sun after all.... The one guy yelled at the squire and I thought it was pretty rude. They were just volunteers and they were trying their best from what I could tell.
um everything else was good.... Broon is insanely funny even with a cast on his arm.

We are getting there. There are more this year than last year. I have been trying to refrain from commenting on the negative points. I want people to feel that they can say what they think without someone challenging them. But I have heard from a lot of people that they think we have less vendors than last season. And I want to set the record straight.. We have a net gain of 6 vendors this season. Not a huge increase, but at least it isn't a loss.

A really great opening weekend - since there were print-outs of the schedule, we weren't bothered by the lack of programs, and everything seemed really ready this year. Congrads to John, cast, staff, and all those weekend volunteers who worked so hard.
E Muziki rocks!!! What a fantastic group - so glad to have them. We are constantly amazed by Maidens IV - they are such beautiful and talented young ladies. And it's SO great to have Broon back again...when he gets on a roll with his improv stuff, we just can't stop laughing. Didn't catch a lot of the other shows yet, but there's plenty of time.
I think the verdict is still out on the joust. It's certainly nice to see real lance passes again. But there was almost no one watching what used to be the biggest draw of the faire. With the jousting companies no longer riding in the parade and the paddock having been moved two years ago to the far end of the list rather than behind the diaz, where people passed on a regular basis and were encouraged to interact with the horses and riders, I don't think some patrons even realize that there are great big horses and men in armor on site!
One comment I was asked to pass along by someone who does not have internet access - cast, please oh please oh please, at pub sing, be aware that there are people sitting on the picnic tables behind the benches at the Stumble Inn. It's fun to watch everyone dancing and singing, but when you plant yourselves directly behind the benches, you are completely blocking the view of the stage for any one sitting at the picnic tables.

Ooops - How could I forget the incomparable Olive?!?!? She's such a great spirit, and her cottage the perfect place to rest and refresh. The doggie haven is such a beautiful place - ooo, we just love it back there!!!

Now that I've had some sleep, and have my thoughts together (well, as together as they'll ever get)... ;D
This opening weekend has to be the best I've ever seen and been a part of. It was amazing! The acts were wonderful. the people were just as fantastic, and I'm all rarin to go for this saturday already!
It was also great to meet a lot of people from this faire board too! Kat, Lady C. Was great running into you!
I do agree about the programs. It shouldn't have happened, but everyone is entitled to make mistakes. And we'll have them this weekend, I've heard.
I do need to thank all the other vendors that are now making use of my fetching services. It's nice to have something to do all day, and I love helping you all. This goes for Olive too. I'm happy to help you out on Sundays.
I did almost go down from Heat Exaustion on Sunday. Bad. But thanks to Brian (Penfold) and Steven (Much), who watched me like a couple of hawks for the entirey of the day, I was alright. So I need to thank them for that.
I think this season is going to be one of our best yet. And probably the hardest to recover from once it's over.
I love you all!

Everything was lovely! Well, most everything. There were snippets, of course, because nothing's perfect, but most everything was the sweetness.
Yeah, not having programs sucked. I got gifted by one of those wonky schedules by a random pirate named Josh though, so I wasn't completely deprived.
Emuzeki *rocks*. I passed by who knows how many times when they were playing, and stayed for most of one of their shows.
The Rogues are kickass. I was there for their first show, and was twitching to the music (worse than you at Emuzeki, Nyneve. Lol), and I was there for bits and pieces of the rest of their shows.
The bellydancers were awesome. They rope some guy into coming up to learn how to dance, and it was really funny.
HOT. It was HOT. I am crispy. I know I was dehyrdated: I was thirsty a good deal of the time, even with drinking 4 plus bottles of liquid. I didn't pee at all, either, (sorry for the bluntness) which isn't good.
I haven't seen the joust as of yet, but the horses are absolutely gorgeous. I'm dissapointed that the insurance doesn't allow patrons to pat the horses, even though it makes perfect sense. I used to spend hours just rubbing the horses' necks or foreheads last year. However, there *is* a mini-horse that I absolutely adore, and that his owner has claimed has fallen in love with me *snrkle*, and she lets me rub his neck and forehead all I like, so its not so bad. Tinkerboy, I think is his name. He's gorgeous. A deep chocolate brown with a pale straw colored mane and tail.
I haven't seen many of the shows as of yet, so I can't speak for them. I miss the tortuga twins though, and I know that there are lots and lots of people (at least ones I've talked to) that go "the tortuga twins aren't there? then what's the point of going?"
Axel was hilarious though. I *did* see him. He was funny.
Pub sing was cool. Lots and lots of people, and the cast and all did a lovely job, from what I could see.
yeah, the backish area (gypsy camp and back) did seem a bit deserted, more than normal. Olive's and Faerieland got lots of traffic though: I know I wandered through plenty of times.
The chess match was pretty spiffy, from what I could tell. Granted, I couldn't see much, because I was sitting in the grass in the back where there was space (close contact with crowds for long amounts of time aren't my thing. I do well in the streets because there's always space to move to. Not an option while sitting in the crowd to the chess match), but what I could see was spiffy.
I realized anew how much I missed the fatty greasy fried seafood, and I'm going to be getting one of the yummy chicken dinners and some deep-fried oreos this coming weekend. I miss the sweet potato fries-they were the best I've ever had anywhere. I'm sure I'll be gravitating towards the sweet stuff in later weekends: I have too much of a sweet tooth not to.
The vendors looked like they were having a good time, and good business. None of them looked bored, from what I could tell.

To follow up on the inexperienced comment of Maidens, they have been playing since they were old enough to hold an instrument, so they are quite experienced. They are new to performing consistently at medieval faires. They usually travel from spot to spot (and still do). They are so low-key, down-to-earth people. What a large family too! The whole family was out this weekend. Great people!

OK I have been trying to refrain from commenting on the "complaints" about the joust since everyone is entitled to their opinion. ( thank you Trevor I agree) however....... you really need to give them a chance. I actually work down near the "field of honor" so i have had a chance over the years to observe the jousters. this troupe is BY FAR the best we have had in many years. they are funny and willing to talk to anyone. you have to remember that even though they do not seem to do much they work very hard and are exhausted after their shows.
we are only used to seeing a joust but if you look at the actual history you will find that there were more than just jousts being preformed at tournaments. they often had sword on foot or other mounted fights. I for one am glad to see that they do more than just lance strikes. I am also glad to see that they are not so "planed out" that even if they miss their strike they "react" like they were hit, like they did last year.
OK I will stop my rant now. :-)
I was not able to get out much but I hope to see more over the run. I am really looking forward to seeing E Muzeki and some other shows.
Olive it was really nice to meet you. I am hoping to get over to see you sometime again.

maybe i shouldn't have said inexperienced. just young for how good they are and for what the typical age is for what they are doing.
most of the music "groups" that are doing ren/medieval music and are at the level that maidens IV is at are older in age like the rogues/owen/silent lion/etc. (not to say you guys are really old. just older than maidens IV) so when i heard their music, I expected a group of older poeple. and when I first saw how young they are it really surprised me.
I think their music is great. I think that it is great that they are so young yet at the level of the other groups.

Ok, cool. I was just curious. I'm funny that way, I like to know why people think what they think. I can often see multiple sides to a subject, so learning perspective interests me.
Originally I thought you may have been talking about their presence on stage. While their musical tallent is awesome, I have noticed they do seem a bit inexperienced with the microphone, and with the conversational aspect between numbers. Which I actually find a bit refreshing.

Well, maybe I'll give the Joust another try... But only if it's below 80 degrees. I'm not sitting in that sun after this past weekend.
And I do miss the fruit stand that was on the main road from the gate last year. I was hoping to find whole fruit or tomatos to munch on throughout the day. I just prefer the whole fruit to the fruit cups.
