Granted I do not have the "body" for bellydancing ( i'm kinda big) but i still can not sit still. OUCH! Please - allow me to step up on my soap box to rant for a brief moment.... THAT is Bellydancing Myth #1 !!! The beauty of Bellydancing is that the art form embraces ALL body types!!! It can be done by all figure types - a person who is lean and athletic will have the same difficulties learning the movements and isolations as a person who is more sedentary and, as you say, "overweight." The dance movements themselves compliment the way the body moves naturally. The grace of the dance also flows strongly from a connection with the Earth, and is the interaction among Mind, Body and Soul. So don't be worried about your size - step (or in this case, dance) out of that horrible stigma of our society - just feel the rhythm...and DANCE!!! And here I'll end with two of my all-time favorite quotes: "The curve is more powerful than the sword."- Mae West "Everything in the universe has rhythm. Everything dances." - Maya Angelou [glow=red,2,300] <steps down from soap box>[/glow] thank you for that. I know "it is not the size that matters but the intent" actually I have a bellydance DVD here at home to help in that area. I just do not know how comfortable I would be in public.

I can very much relate! I've been bellydancing for almost 5 years now - and I'm not totally comfortable dancing in public! Mayhaps we'll just have to bellydance together - it'll be easier on us that way!

Lady Catherine - if there are truly rules to live by, one of them is definitely: Don't Drink and Dance!!! LOL! However - it has certainly been a rule that has been, and I'm sure will be, broken - or at least bent a little! ;D
And Phedra - we'll even spare some Mead to assist you with making a fool of yourself! ;D
