We will honored on opening weekend by Bellydancers from New York City (Git a Rope) I have known Ariel for years and she is bringing with her another female dancer, a world famous male dancer, and live musicians.

Oh cool! I so love the dancers at the Michigan fair - it'll be nice to have that medium represented. I just saw a man doing belly dancing for the first time, and he was amazing. It was so interesting to see how a man interpreted the moves for a male body - it wasn't the slightest bit "girly"!

Although, I must admit, I've seen a Zombie (Rob) who seems to have some pretty good rhythm.... ..And one just never knows - I'm usually unable to help myself from BD'ing, especially to LIVE music! Might depend on the Garb for the day, hopefully the new BD garb will have arrived by then!

*agrees vehemently* I'll have the same problem. I don't have quite the expertise that I gather you have, but i definitely have major problems trying to keep still.

It is in the blood. try having Hispanic heritage like I do and NOT move. Granted I do not have the "body" for bellydancing ( i'm kinda big) but i still can not sit still.

Granted I do not have the "body" for bellydancing ( i'm kinda big) but i still can not sit still. OUCH! Please - allow me to step up on my soap box to rant for a brief moment.... THAT is Bellydancing Myth #1 !!! The beauty of Bellydancing is that the art form embraces ALL body types!!! It can be done by all figure types - a person who is lean and athletic will have the same difficulties learning the movements and isolations as a person who is more sedentary and, as you say, "overweight." The dance movements themselves compliment the way the body moves naturally. The grace of the dance also flows strongly from a connection with the Earth, and is the interaction among Mind, Body and Soul. So don't be worried about your size - step (or in this case, dance) out of that horrible stigma of our society - just feel the rhythm...and DANCE!!! And here I'll end with two of my all-time favorite quotes: "The curve is more powerful than the sword."- Mae West "Everything in the universe has rhythm. Everything dances." - Maya Angelou [glow=red,2,300] <steps down from soap box>[/glow]

It would be great to have both of them. Male Belly Dancers are rare and the form is not very widely known. Getting an oportunity to see both forms would be great.
