Once again I seem to be the first one to answer your perplexing questions. But since I am a protege of Dr. I.M. Kooky, world renown expert on lots of stuff, who is better qualified?
First off, let me state, your "question of the Week" seems to have metamorphosed into the question of every other day as only two days ago did you post your car question. But I digress!
I have before me at this very moment a three pound bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup. Made in Pittsburgh PA. And according to the very people who make the stuff (and they should know) it contains: Tomato concentrate made from red ripe tomatoes, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, salt, spice, onion powder, and last but not least natural flavoring! As to how many tomatoes go into a 24 ounce container, Well that is a closely guarded secret as they do not want the competition to know how they make their ketchup so "thick."
I, for one, wonder how they "squash" them tomatoes thru that small opening where the cap is. That must be akin to trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube. But obviously they have figured out a way. I also wonder how they make the "red ripe tomatoes" into concentrate. I would assume they mash them like grapes into wine, But do they hire only obese people to do the stomping as tomatoes are so much bigger then grapes? Oh well, another question for another day. I hope I have satisfactorily answered this one. HANK ;D

8 pounds ripened tomatoes. The basic ingredients in modern ketchup are tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, salt, allspice, cloves, and cinnamon. Onions, celery, and other vegetables are frequent additions. Some popular early main ingredients include blueberry, anchovy, oyster, lobster, walnut, kidney bean, cucumber, cranberry, lemon, and grape. When I typed in 24 oz this is what I got. Think it is WAY off Ingredients: 96 pounds tomatoes 12 med. onion, chopped 3 teaspoons cayenne 12 cups sugar 12 cups white vinegar 18 teaspoons whole cloves 18 inches stick cinnamon, broken 12 teaspoons celery seed 48 teaspoons salt Kat

Yea. I'm pretty sure that would make about 120 pounds of ketchup as they mulch the tomatos and use al of it.
Your suggestion would make almost enough sauce for Spagetti at one of the Sword School seminars! Of course you would need to check with Trevor on the recipie......

WOW! Kat, I can't believe those numbers in that recipe! 96 pounds of tomatoes to get 24 ounces of ketchup Now I know that it takes like 50 gallons of sap to produce 1 gallon of Maple Syrup. But 96 pounds of tomatoes Mind you, I've NEVER tried to make my own ketchup so I really don't know, but that seems like a HUGE amount for very little finished product, never mind all the rest of the ingredients. If those numbers are correct you sure as hell lose a lot in the cooking process. HANK.

NEW QUESTION!! In the cosmos there are many mysteries. One such mystery is about our moon. (no not wolfe's) Those of us on earth wonder what you would find in that land of stone and rock if you were the one who was there. Should you dig down like a coal miner about a mile what would you discover; A) on the dark side of the moon? B) on the bright face of the full moon? Immagination is required for most of you......

A) Dark side:::: A pretty good Pink Floyd album. Plus if you follow along with the Wizard of Oz you may find the Emerald castle. Sorry Turk, I have no idea. Bright face of the moon? Never heard of, but, I have heard the Near side of the moon since we can never really see the dark side. Wait a minute...don't some indian tribes call the full moon the "bright face"? That must mean you are calling the front side of the moon the bright face.I get it!! I know Saturn has a two face moon. cheers, Kat

Potatoes. Why do they keep growing in your home? Because they're trying to take over the world.
