Oh No! Penfold is leaving and I haven't had the opportuninty to learn from a master. My wife and I have purchased rats for the upcoming season with hopes to join in the fun. Now I worry about the future of rat puck at GLMF.
Will rat puck still take place?
Will it be sanctioned by Emery's Fleet?
Will I find a rat puck stick or can I make one?
Will it be plain or pepperoni?
Will it be paper or plastic?
Will I ever shut up?
yes... kinda..

It will survive just fine.
And hey now, you should look back, sometimes that's important!
Meanwhile, do not fret. Especially because, technically, I was never a master, merely a pucker with permission from Emrys to bring the game in. Due to schedules, I never have been able to hit up a sanctioned tournament. GLMF always ran through the other faires!
Rat Puck will still take place I'm sure. It's a people's game!
Emrys may have given me permission to bring the game to GLMF, but that doesn't mean puckers can't puck around without me there.
Rat puck sticks can be found a few places, check da google. There is a great bamboo place that Emrys suggests and, of course, you can technically make one to code.
I would suggest plain, pepperoni would begin to stink up in the summer sun.
Paper. Plastic didn't exist yet.
I hope not. Then we'd have nothing left to answer!
And besides, who knows what else the future holds?

To answer your question. Yes, rat puck will survive.
Britny and I will again lay out some set holes once most of the site prep is done this year. (things tend to change from year to year, so holes need to be shifted or moved)
This season, we may even be able to come up with some kind of timeframe for pucking every day. The past couple years have been hard as we tried to work around Penfold's schedule. With him being a cast officer, his time was usually at a premium though. More than likely it will be more towards morning-noon time. (the later in the day, the less energy for pucking)
Sticks - almost anything will work. Find your own, make your own, or buy your own. I use a modified walking stick, and have on occasion used sticks that I just picked up on the faire grounds, as have others.
And as far as I am concerned the tournament will keep it's name as the Unofficial Penfold Pox Open. Weather he is there or not, Penfold is the reason we have rat puck (in it's current incarnation) at GLMF. So he will always be remembered and honored as long as Britny and I are involved in any way.

Lady Catherine....Instead of yelling FORE when pucking a rat, maybe one should yell FLEA as it was the fleas on the rats that caused the plague! And from what I have observed of some of the level of skill of some "puckers" bystanders fleeing would be a good idea lest someone ends up with a mis-pucked rat in the midst of ones meal (think cheesy fries) HANK.

That cheesy fry incident just brought more power to yelling "cheese" prior to pucking! I can still see their faces! Besides, we warned them!
My rat could have just smacked a fairy wing on the one younger girl, but nooooo, mom had to try and deflect it and send it into the cheese! Great moments at GLMF!

So...this year, if I get the character I want, I am TOTALLY planning to puck. Never have before. Very excited to learn, and was very bummed last year when I never had time.

Well, that is cool. We have taught several cast members over the years to puck. Look forward to being able to show you as well.
As always, we will have some extra rats for others to use. And it is never a problem sharing a stick.
