The last time we were at the Michigan Ren Faire we watched the queen and Penfold rat pucking in the morning, right there in the middle of the faire. I makes sense to get your rat pucking in before the heat of the day and when the grounds are relatively less crowded. I know not every one is a morning person and some like to wander a bit before getting down to business but, if there is to be any rat pucking at all there should be some thought put into the game, may-haps even a bit of planning! Shows don't start until 11:00. Thoughts?

You forget though. That the Rat Catcher has parts in both opening gate, and then the Maypole. He is a cast officer and actually has duties he must attend to. Also, when we do get down to it, there usually is a plan. Set times and places to meet. But with each new season, things have to be worked out according to show times, and people's schedules. But for the time being, I plan on just playing things by ear. Puck when the feeling strikes, or join a group as I run across them. Besides, any master plan always ends up getting screwed up anyway. It's one of the risks of having a person in charge, who also happens to be the most easily distracted man in the shire (no offence Penfold. it is one of your charms after all ) As to pucking before the crowds. Where is the fun in that? That is half the challenge, and fun of Rat Puck. The audience. It is more than just fun for the participants. It is also something else for the patrons to watch and enjoy. It was great last year. By the end of the run, you could overhear people in street cloths saying "hey, they are playing that rat game". When normal, average faire attendies, and not just ren-die-hards know what is going on, you know you are doing something right.
