Soooooooooo. Have you had a chance to think up new holes yet?
We are just over 3 weeks until faire.

Going to have to change the fairyland hole too now. The castles out in front are gone now, and the plan is to put picnic tables there for the parents to sit at.

Heading out there this Saturday (got a wedding reception in the afternoon and a trip to see my Grandfather on Sunday) and the following weekend. At absolute worst, holes will be created the first and second day of faire with some help from the loyal rat pucking community we do seem to have formed.
I will also state that if we can get a decent group together...and we can manage some nice holes to setup...and we can all be there one day (or maybe more) then it is quite possible that someone, namely myself, might just have some nifty prizes to give out in case of a great big tournament match.

Dearest Brian, will you be pucking the first day of the faire? Would like to know when we can play so I know when to bring my stick with me?

Hopefully we will be pucking EVERY day of faire, including the first. The FIRST, and possibly second day will be mostly scouting and trying new holes. So if you want to get some fun first time practice in, bring it!

I wasn't sure where to post questions I had. I hope this is a good thread for it! Of course, I've heard Penfold and Trevor and Britny speak highly of the pucking of the rats, but haven't partaken myself as of yet!! Howere, I decided to wander through and see what all the "Hoopla" was about, and I do say, it sounds like fun!! Would the more established rat puckers suggest a "newbie" just wade right in as a virgin pucker, or would you suggest, mayhaps, cattying first? Do catties often become rat puckers also, or do they usually stay catties? Are there/will there be special games, or trainings, for virgins that do decide to try pucking? I wouldn't want to have to start right away trying to puck with the best of 'em!! lol I loved the "official" site. I thought this was something that Penfold had devised in our own wonderous shire. I didn't know it had originated in shires far away and was a long running faire sport! Huzzah!!

Don't worry. None of us are experts.
Also, as we figure out the holes for this season, we are looking to have some easier 'newbie' holes. So those who haven't played can get a feel for things before trying the harder, more challenging holes.

Yes, Rat Puck is most DEFINITELY NOT mine. Heh. I was given a great gift when Emrys Fleet (Jim Greene) the careftaker of Rat Puck allowed me to bring it to our faire. That is why I have a dedication to him in the beginning of my rulebook and also explain it to be his when I speak to people of the game. He is happy that pucking has taken off at our faire. I can only hope that one day I can sneak off to Sterling and play in an official tournament. As for the idea of jumping in. Just jump in. It's much more fun that way. Besides, none of us are really that good. ;D Just ask Trevor and Britny how I was playing last year!
