As I was reading a post in a new thread that had been started by Geoffrey Devaney (hope I spelled that right!), I got an idea. He was talking about having a great first year at the Faire and meeting new people, and I thought, "I don't know if I saw/met him or not!?" I'm kicking myself for not thinking about this earlier, which is very difficult to do while typing and/or reading posts on the board--but I digress.
Anywho, I wanted to know what everyone thinks, especially Trevor and Britny, since this is their board, about coming up with a--what should I call it--name tag/calling card??? You know, like the Pooka's flag or the Shephardess' flock. If there was an image you liked, maybe the castle at the top of the page, or whatever you decided, that we could make a name tag with our board name on and wear at Faire so we could all recognize each other that way!
So, what 'ya think, heh! You like? The only good thing is if you like the idea, we have a while to get it done before next year. It'll give us something Faire related to be working on besides garb, weapons, jewelry, sorting pictures. O.K., so we already have a lot to do, but what do you think!

I like that idea. I wanted to meet people, but I didn't know who anyone was, so I only ended up introducing myself to the pickle ladies.

That's my point, xpunkgrlx. This way we could all know each other by the tag/nameplate, whatever. We could say hello to each other, introduce ourselves. We might get new recruits to the board, get togethers, etc. from people seeing the nametag and asking what it's for, who knows?!?

Hmmm, you know talk to Bunny and Hank. We do have Faire related events coming up during the rest of the year as well. I'm sure they'd love to have you come.

Mickey...I think your idea is a great one! Someone with some computer knowledge (don't look at me!) could possibly run off some tags similar to the hello, my name is, and you write in the name. I think the castle logo like what Trevor has on his board/business cards would be appropriate since anyone who comes to this board would certainly recognize the symbol. The way this could work is thus: let us say you for example do this. you give some blank copies to everyone at fair you already KNOW, who then gives them to people they might know, but you do not, and that person writes in his/her board name. Anyone you has any suggestion to refine this idea, please join the conversation. I was able to meet Scarlet, from Pittsburgh, this year along with Geoffrey by having Pirate Dave introduce them to me. I looked for you xpunkgrix, but I did not see anyone with a PINK camera on their wrist, sorry. Since I hang out at the pickle grove from time to time, we may have seen each other, maybe even spoke and simple not know it. WAIT!! Did you by chance see some damn fool walking around with a TALKING RAT on his head eating his brains? Well that was me. HANK. ;D

no didn't see you. I was with the Tinkers almost all day. I was at all the En Flambe shows video taping them, I hung out with Katie at the camp, and went to see Zoltan with Sam... A very Tinkery day!

I think the name tags would be a great idea, and not just at faire, but at other events such as the Meet & Greets and the Halloween party.

Thanks Geoffrey. I've known Hank & Bunnie for years. Met Hank when he used to help my younger son with drills at Sword School at Faire. (After said son worked his way through family--he had to find friends to bash sticks with!!) We've been to every get together at their place that transportation/time would allow, have even brought 'newbies' with us.
That's just one of the great things about this board, as far as I'm concerned. Being able to get together with Faire friends off season--Greaattt!! That reminds me, I saw a thread here a few weeks (?) back about getting together at Winking Lizard or other places. I don't remember where I saw it though! Is anybody going to be doing this?

Yes, Beer Blessings, I have to say, I kinda guessed who you were even before I saw your sign. I didn't introduce myself though cause when I would see you, you were usually talking to friends, so I didn't want to interrupt. Besides, I didn't want to scare you and have you wondering, "Who is this weird woman, and why is she talking to me?!"

I've been waiting to weigh in on this. You guys can try and do whatever you want. But keep in mind, that a lot of people aren't going to put a nametag on their garb. It just stands out too badly, and clashes with what they are trying to achieve. That is why most organiziations use pins or other such items to recognize members. Something small but identifies the person as a member of the group. Much like the RF pins for www.renaissancefestival.com

If I'm not mistaken, our beloved Morgan and Dwyn have theirs.

Well, if you introduce yourself, I wouldn't be wondering who you were! Just come up, make introductions, and start talking. It's the best way to meet people. (When you don't have the luxury of Pirate Dave to introduce you to a plethora of folks as I did..) As for the weird part, you think you're any worse than the rest of us?!? Oh, and I'll be organizing the next Winking Lizard outing once we recover from final weekend... Mentor this time around by request.

BB, great to know about Winking Lizard! I was trying to find out about that in another thread, somewhere.
Trevor, thanks for the input. I don't want to step on anyone's toes or seem pushy. I was just trying to find something we could all use to help us spot each other. A pin or something sounds good. If we see another person we haven't met with that, then we could introduce ourself to them if we wanted.
Not that I don't talk to perfect strangers all the time, much to the chagrin of my kids I might add. I was just hoping for an easier way to pick out other board members in a crowd. I get curious to know who people that I've talked to on the board are in the real world, ya know, at Faire! Like I said, just hoping we could all come up with something so it would be easier to spot each other in the crowds.
