Hey there, folks. I know, odd for me to actually be making an appearance on the boards. However, I am currently working on a project and wanted your input.
I'm putting together a book of songs appropriate to a faire, complete with a CD (or two or three, depending on how many songs this ends up containing) so that you can learn the music and then take it with you to the fairegrounds to sing along, teach others, whatever.
Are there any songs in particular that you would like to see included? Any personal favorites? I know that I personally have been slowly going crazy because most of the street cast knows the same five songs and not much else. I'm working to change that.
Once this all gets put together, I'll be willing to make books for others - I'll be asking a few dollars for each book to offset the costs of making them, but this is about getting more diversity into the repertoire. As much as I love Wild Rover, All For Me Grog, etc... there's only so many times I can hear them in a weekend, let alone a season.
So please leave me your input! If you want something in the book from someone we all know and love like Owain, just keep in mind that I will NOT be providing mp3s of those songs without his express permission.
Love, Lei/Brunhilda.
P.S. - I'll have some form of prototype with me this weekend for my own enjoyment, as this whole project was prompted by me wandering the site yesterday desperately trying to remember lyrics that had flown out of my head. Eventually I'll have all my songs back in my head, but having a cheat book is helpful now and then.

That is a great Idea, I would be more than happy to support this effort in any way I can.
The song about chemicals that I heard at pub sing last week was great.

Do you remember who sang the song or some of the lyrics? I can do a lyric search over the internet or get in contact with the performer, but unfortunately I don't pay too too much attention at pub sing unless it's dancy time to Barrett or Judy. I know, I'm a special pumpkin.

It's sad though) Drunken Sailor (always fun making up new verses to fit faire characters!) Nelson's Blood Black Bird One I Love Mingulay Boat Song (this is the one sung at chess match in 2005; so very pretty) The Scotsman Haul Away Joe This is Nae My Plaid / Ma Plaid The Widow / The Widow and the Devil Roll Your Leg Over ( five pages of verses!) Follow the Band The Parish of Dunkeld

All right, kids. As I want to know the songs I have in The Book reasonably well by this weekend, this first version will only have 34 songs in it.
If you see something missing that needs to be added, please let me know. As of now, the list for Book version one is:
All For Me Grog Arthur McBride Ash Grove Barbara Allen Barrett’s Privateers Beer, Beer, Beer (Charley Mopps) Biddy Mulligan Black Velvet Band Blackbird Bold O’Donahue Botany Bay Caanan’s Land Carrickfergus Drunken Sailor Finnegan’s Wake French Perfume Maid in the Garret Mary Mac Morrison’s Jig (Johnny Jump Up) Mistress McGraw Nelson’s Blood Red is the Rose Rose Red/Hey Ho/Poor Bird Rocky Road to Dublin Soul Bard Spanish Ladies Star of the County Down Step it Out Mary Strike the Bell The Night Pat Murphy Died The Knight and the Shepherd’s Daughter Wild Mountain Thyme Wild Rover We Be Soldiers Three

All right, people. I'm up to 60 songs. I'd like to hit 100 eventually, but I'm running out of songs that are relatively easy to learn, and decent t'sing on the faire site. I need songs that are fun! An occasional ballad is good, but I don't want too many. Here's my current list of 60. Can anyone think of a couple more songs, or should I just count my blessings now, finish finding the last few mp3s I need, and move on?
The Grand List: 1. All For Me Grog 2. Arthur McBride 3. Ash Grove 4. Barbara Allen 5. Barrett’s Privateers 6. Beer, Beer, Beer (Charley Mopps) 7. Biddy Mulligan 8. Black Velvet Band 9. Blackbird (If I Was a) 10. Blackbird (Beatles Version) 11. Bold O’Donahue 12. Botany Bay 13. Caanan’s Land 14. Carrickfergus 15. Cuccoo 16. Danny Boy 17. Do Virgins Taste Better? 18. Dragon’s Retort 19. Drunken Sailor 20. Early One Morning 21. Fields of Athenry 22. Finnegan’s Wake 23. French Perfume 24. Get up Jack, John Sit Down (Jolly Roving Tar) 25. Haul Away Joe 26. Health to the Company 27. I’ll Tell My Ma 28. The Keeper 29. Light the Shade 30. Loch Lomond 31. Maid in the Garret 32. Maids, When You’re Young 33. Mary Mac 34. Mistress McGraw 35. Moose Song 36. Morrison’s Jig (Johnny Jump Up) 37. My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose 38. My Singing Bird 39. My Mother Bids Me Bind My Hair 40. Nelson’s Blood 41. Red is the Rose 42. Rose Red/Hey Ho 43.
