As an observation, more patrons, = more revenue=more eyes for cast to interact with.. Felt good about saturday and the parade looked awesome, especially from the front end... Keep up the positive signs.. Patrons are loving it...this early.. LC.

That's great to hear! I'm doing my part to try and bring in some friends who have never been to faire or go infrequently. Most people I know that have attended love our little faire! Sooo...how were The Rogues? Can't wait till tomorrow!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I found this weekend much more enjoyable than last week. The rogues are great! I heartily agree. The sound of pipes and drums really perk the place up (no offense to Barrett who is a wonderful piper, it is great to hear him play as well, but I only catch it infrequently) Also, Pub Sing was awesome this weekend. Especially today's!

Well, I finally showed up today. For those of you cringing, don't worry, this is not going to a bashing session; just wanted to add my observations from someone who knows both sides of the faire: patron and cast member. Front gate was what it always is - a jumbled bit of dialogue that most patrons endure through the hot sun. Missed the "Barricade skit" since I wanted to drop off my heavy bag and get out of the sun. I didn't see too much hawking for the Maypole dance though; maybe it picked up after I left. The "circus statues" seemed extremely out of place, as did the anatomically correct unicorn in front of a designated kid's area. Gypsy camp was in a good area and looked good. Nobles encampment was set back from the road and I couldn't really tell what it was. Unlike gypsy camp that was right on the side of the road and extremely accessible for patrons to interact. I also liked seeing at least a couple gypsies there. I was at faire from 10 am to 630 pm and only saw Chris Mcque doing street beyond "meet and greet." He definitely made me laugh! I saw a lot of newbies following behind more experienced actors looking a little scared. I hope these experienced actors give these guys a nudge and get them doing something, anything. That's how it starts. Please take these people under your wing and get them comfortable! Try starting a bit and incorporate a new actor and then turn the bit over to them, being there for just back up. The only way it gets easier/better is to just do it. You WILL sometimes suck...it's part of the learning curve, you'll get better with experience. Anyways, chess match was chess match. Missed Rio, the new music background was sometimes distracting, sometimes made me just want to bust out in dance. The opening monologue was impossible to decipher; the music needs to be a little softer or she needs to be louder, and it seemed a bit rushed; slow down, let the audience digest your previous sentence; you know the dialogue, but we don't. The intro singing was neat, but was disapointed when that was it; I was hoping for a whole musical with a setup like that, but then it fizzled. The fight choreography was typical - a mix of too slow, too fast, and I could feel the unsureness in some fighters. Remember to learn the fight first then add the acting; it's a tough thing for people who are already actors to do. There was one rather dangerous disarm that sent a sword flying rather far. It didn't reach any people, but a slightly different angle and it could have. I would have to say the best looking fight was with Tsura the gypsy. They were starting to look relaxed, even with a few flubs. That's the best way to get through a fight...relaxed. One thing that was improved was that the nobility was rarely alone, only the King a couple of times, which is more forgivable than the Queen being alone. The pirates traveled in a large pack making general grumbly pirate noises, but not much else. I saw a pirate girl walking with a man at arms. I know everyone is "friends" after the chess game, but it looked very out of place. The costumes, while extremely well made, lacked any inspiration or individuality. Also, I wouldv'e made the choice to put all nobility in bright jewel tones since they wouldv'e been able to afford such rich tones. Unfortuneately, when looking from across the food court, the nobility blended in with all the patrons. Deference to the court is either non-existant or being abused. Need to find a happy medium. Yes, the grounds looked a tad empty, but what was really disturbing was the lack of patrons on a gorgeous day. I am not sure what advertising is going on, hopefully something can be ramped up. In short, the cast has plenty of potential, they just need to jump in. I'm not asking for the street choking bits the Burlaps were famous for, start out smaller, ask patrons about their day, what they saw, etc. Simple meet and greet should be used only as a warm up to the day. I know I couldn't be everywhere at once, and I'm sure I missed some good stuff. I know this post is already way too long, but I'm almost done...I just need to say "Thank you" to everyone who said they missed Sean and myself. Sometimes, reading things on this message board, I thought that people would go on and not even realize we weren't there. It really felt good to know that quite a few people still care about us. I just really hope that we can be full-time members again, someday. That is what is so special about this faire...the family-like bonds. Today, though, it felt like the family where the kids are all grown-up and you only see eachother once a year at Christmas. Anyways, I need to wrap this up, it's already too long. God knows when I see a post this long, I generally roll my eyes and just skim it!!!

Well, I didn't skim any of it (though a few paragraph breaks would have made it easier to follow ) I see some very good critiques in there. Hopefully those in charge will read it with an open mind and consider some of the points made. I will say though, that you must have caught a bad day at the chess match. The one I saw last weekend was really good. Only a few minor flubs during the fighting (usually a block arriving well ahead of a strike). But otherwise pretty smooth and convincing.

You missed a lot of ex-cast members. I saw tons of people today. Some of the Bashalde gypsies were around, the twins were here, Jenn. Yesterday, the one who played Sir Patrick Crow was at faire, as well as the poop sculptor. Also saw Dani yesterday.
It's been like old home week there. Heck, even saw one of the 2002 LIW there.

I went Sunday, and had a great time!! was great to see the Rogues again.... (note to self: must be more outgoing and let Penfold know so rat-pucking protest can occur!) However. One of my coworkers was also there, and she was very disappointed. She does not wear garb, and has not been to GLMF in several years, so it was a chance for her to see if it was something she might do regularly....and she will not return. The reasons she gave (and please don't shoot the messenger, I'm just repeating what I was told): - not enough different kinds of crafters. In her words, "all food and clothing" - not stuff she'd buy. - not enough street interaction. - overall, she said it felt "junky". I really winced when she said this, because I really love GLMF, but I didn't have an answer for her. Maybe it just wasn't her idea of a good time....but since she goes to Scarborough Faire in TX every year with her grandkids, I really hoped she'd find some good things at our little faire. Anyway. I had a good time. Excellent shows, I enjoyed the street bits that I saw, the vendors were fun and friendly....I just wish I could get everyone to see it through my eyes, I guess.....

I had a good time. Faire is what you make of it. Don't sit and wait for someone to come up to you. Be outgoing and introduce your self, new friends new memories. Working in the public eye the past 27 yrs, there is no shyness about me. Start when you are young and you'll be comfortable having experience when situations you are placed in do not intimidate you. Okay I'm off my soap box now..

Well to be fair, it's a bit silly to compare Great Lakes to Scarborough. Since you can literally fit 4 GLMFs into one TRF and it has been around since before I was born.

I don't think my coworker was comparing....I was simply using that to illustrate that she does know about the general "faire atmosphere." She said she went to GLMF once several years ago, and enjoyed it, and was disappointed in what she found there this past weekend. That's all. I did speak with her more a little later, after I'd had a chance to cool down and not feel totally defensive....she did say that the shows she watched (Bardic Wind and the Washing Well Wenches) were great. She just had hoped to find more crafty things.... (and I'm not sure what those might be. She kept saying that all she could see to buy were clothes and crystals. )

Oh, I guess i just assumed that's what she had in mind when she said it was junky.
I wish there were more crafters too. There used to be a glassblower that did demos that were really cool, i don't think they are there. I wish Fellowship Foundaries were there, they have the coolest pewter stuff. No Starfire ?! There used to be an Armorer (don't now if that's the right word) who had an apprentice with him and they made stuff on site which was neat. Metal roses, those were fun. No Faery Wands...can't say I'm sad about that, hehe. Are the Harps still there? I don't get to many of the crafters since i'm s'posed to be out playing so maybe I just missed stuff, but it does seem a bit empty.
