My compliments to the Faire Seamstress. Garb is lovely and well done! Love to look at the bright and cheery garb.. The Queen's garb is fabulous as with Baron/Duke Wainwright and the King ain't too shabby either.

Yeah, they tried something new this year and it worked out pretty well. Brook and Sarah (and I think Jimmy too? maybe?) picked out the patterns everyone was to use, as well as our fabric (which is hot and heavy as all hell. What happened to natural cotton that they harped on us to get all last season? D: Upholstery fabric does not breathe!). Ah well, at least it looks good.
We all had to sew our own. Except for I believe most of professional cast, which Jimmy (Capt Esteban Florez) sewed. He rocks.

I was thrilled when I saw the new 'modern' with it garb.. What a great idea... It looks great! Just remember beauty knows No Price.. at least that's what I'm told...

I agree, the costumes were beautiful, and the fact that they more or less matched worked very well for the guardsmen and similar characters, but my mother and I thought that among the gypsies and the fairies, you all looked... well, extremely uniform. If that was what they wanted, they succeeded admirably, but generally one thinks of gypsies and fairies as being much more eclectic and different from one another as well as from the rest of the populace. This opinion, however, is probably overly influenced by me being a past gypsy, present seamstress and future costume designer, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. In any case, you were all beautiful!

I agree. The garb this season does seem a bit nicer. Though I don't envy the people that have to wear it when the temps get really high.

Just a quick thanks for the "nice garb" comments. Yup, Brook & Sarah picked out everyone's patterns / material and we sewed ourselves. (Well, virtually everything I'm wearing that's not leather or metal was sewn by my mom - she's done pro seamstress work in the past so she knows her stuff.)
Yeah, we wanted the cast members to look more uniform to help patrons distinguish between cast members and other "garbed up" patrons. No disrespect intended to any of our faire's vendors, but it was a heck of a lot cheaper to do it that way too. I think the most expensive costumes came in around $50 total, not including boots and accessories of course. Most complete outfits were around $30 total. If anyone is interested in details for my outfit, send me a PM and I'll be happy to share...
Wow - I'm such a teacher. I intended this to be a two line response, and ended up with whole paragraphs...

Oh Yes, James was costumer and Codesigner for In house and Sarah and Brook were designers for UFTA. The Queens Dress took three full days of sewing alone, including a six hour stint at handsewing cardridge pleats into her skirt. Jimmy

Wow! That is a lot of work.
I'm not much in the sewing department, but I do know my way around with a needle and thread. So I can appreciate the amount of work you are talking about.

I think the costumes are FAB, especially the Royal ones!! I got to play a bit with Esteban and he is WONDERFUL! Binkie's a doll of course. Estie: when I figure out a bit more what the story line is I might be able to interact with you a little better. I hope you'll come by the cottage again or I see you in town before Parade.

I wish my stuff only took 3 days!!!! I just spent the last 2 months hand embroidering a military coat for another group I was involved with last weekend. I thought about actually hiring someone to machine embroider it, but didn't want to look too "commercial." I can't wait to visit the faire since I'll be able to wear some stuff I couldn't in years past (being locked into a particular character!)

Captflower, The Queens garb is extraordinair! Except for color, reminded me of the Queen at the MIRF. The current Queen's is exquisite,,,didn't I say that already? Oh repeat and repeat....
