Here's my rule for this thread - for every negative stated, you must have an equal or greater positive to share! So, here go mine.
First, why do the parking people always work backwards? They start a line at the far end of the lot, which is totally bass-ackward from any other fair or event I've been to. At least they started with the row nearest the gate! But I do wonder why we aren't parked parallel to the main wall, earliest first, as at all other fairs?
Second, the noticeable lack of vendors and poor placement of those that attended. Rather than drop some poor soul off in Siberia, group them together into pockets so there's a draw.
Third, a lack of alternative foods, so those of us trying to live healthy lives can find SOMETHING not fried! God bless Olive and her cozy cottage! Please, oh, please, provide salads as at other fairs? Sandwiches perhaps? The smoothie/fruit booth is great.
Fourth, what the HECK happened to all the attractions for kids? No rides? NONE? I'd have been asking for my money back if I'd brought children based on past experience!
Now, the good. I got LOTS more of these!
First, Huzzahhhhh!! to the guest entertainment. Most notably this week Queen Anne's Lace - OH what voices! A lovely mix of silly, serious and lyrical. And I can't wait to see our old buddy Gibbon in a few weeks. Thanks SO much to TPTB for allowing one of your own (I shall not name names!) to bring in new talent!
YAY that Bardic Wind is back - not only are you guys eye candy, but you're enormously talented and funny. Welcome back!
And we're so glad "old' favorites are back - Johnny Phoenix, Axel, etc.
YAY that Olive is back - you not only offer REAL food, but a truly lovely setting, and a lovely spirit.
Huzzah for wonderful music - Lizzie and John, and Silent Lion, Michael Manderen and Judy Plester, just to get started. Music is the reason I come to fair (first is seeing friends!).
YAY for the condition of the site - roads, structures, gardens etc. I never was able to come work this summer as I'd hoped, between work, SCA and other commitments. All of you worked so hard to make it beautiful.
Yay for the few money-changers I dealt with, who seemed to actually know what to do, as opposed to last year. I hope the concept of Avaloch money proves beneficial as TPTB hope.
Hoorah for Brothers in Arms jousting! Welcome back to old friends! A fresh new script and new dynamics to the troupe is great. Don't worry about the first weekend - more of an audience will add to your success!
Well, I know there's more, but I'm tired so I quit. More after next week.
One more caveat about posting on this board about TPTB. No matter what your opinion of the people, their job performance, or their work style, remember that without them, we would no longer have an Avaloch to meet and greet each other. I choose to send kindness and support, and hope that through being respectful I'll be seen as someone whose opinion needs to be heard!
Huzzah to Avaloch, long may she live!
