Good day to our Avaloch friends! Wanted to make you guys aware there's a winter renstock gathering in the Pittsburgh area hosted by our own Lady MacRee and Mumsies. The date is Saturday Feb 2, starting time is still pending. This is the second time this type of gathering has been planned, last one being on Mumsies farm/mountain. Due to the winter timeframe, this gathering is to be held in Darla's ((Lady MacRee's) gathering hall, which is a converted church. I've never been there so don't ask - but I imagine it will be quite spacious. This is a last minute thing and still in the planning stages. The response is growing daily, so a nice turn out is expected. Folks are welcome to bring sleeping bags to spend the night, especially those who have a ways to travel. Live entertainment has been graciously offered by Terry Griffith, an Irish Folk singer who performed at the Pittsburgh Faire last year. Another duo may performs, response is pending. Hello, Porter & Stout? No admission of course. A covered dish or dessert is welcome. And BYOB. No decision on whether garb is required or optional. More details to come. Sounds interesting. However, it will help attendance if you are able to come up with a more precise location then "Darla's gathering hall." That is a little vague even for me, and I can pretty much find anywhere! Keep us posted as you learn more.

Yes, yes. I know, kinda vague. I was only at Mumsies once and got hopelessly lost on the way there by using MapQuest directions. She will be providing more detailed directions shortly. If you're interested in looking at a map, the general locale is Dime Road in Vandergrift PA, which is in Westmoreland County. i think...

There are a few of us discussing already.. For the rest of you, fast info: It's in Kittaning, north/northeast of Pittsburgh, at the Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center. (Google map for Crooked Creek ELC for directions) Starts around 3PM. $5, and pot luck. Garb, or no garb. It's up to you. I have my fingers crossed for this one.

Vandergrift PA was named after my great great uncle, Captain J.J. Vandergrift. I have yet to visit. We get stuff in the mail about it all the time. Just a random fact haha.

As one of the people in attendance at last nights gathering I can sum it up in one word. FANTASTIC!! Tons of delicious food. Lots of pretty ladies. Live entertainment. And some absolutely gorgeous weather. I was sitting outside on a bench talking with some folks from the Pittsburgh area, looking up at the moon in the sky and enjoying 75 degree temperatures. Not too shabby for March 7th. I just hope Sue's get together next Saturday is blessed with such weather as we had last night.
Had a fabulous time, well worth the drive over there. The setting was a park lodge/nature center, somewhat akin to Penitentiary Glen, or North Chagrin Nature Center for those of you familiar with those two places.
If you missed this, you missed one hell of a party. Looking forward to next year, I hope the weather is as good then.

I was so glad to see friends from Great Lakes last weekend! It really was a great event - much better than the year before actually. I believe the date for next year has already been booked for 2/27. I think that is the date - will verify. Less of a chance for warm but that's what winter garb is for right? I also believe an alternate date is scheduled in the event of foul winter weather. More details before next year folks!
