Just read this in the latest email from the faire
This is the 20th Anniversary Season at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire and in 2012 we'll show that the Field of Honor is not just for jousting - this summer the bright grass and rich soil of the lists will come alive with several new shows and games of skill. In addition, the Faire will include a special, separate Adult Area hosted by your favorite drunken sailor, Axel The Sot. And, we've heard rumors that the Washing Well Wenches will be moving to a new location, to shake things up a bit - stay tuned for further details. This year's festivities will include a host of new and fantastic entertainment, plus some of your all-time favorites returning to join in the celebration of our 20th season.
Sounds interesting. Wonder what else will be going on on the joust field. Is it related to the Highland Games?
What about this 'Adult Area'?
Hmmmm.
Sounds interesting, and very ambitious.

I will venture there are plans to cordon off an area for the grown up shows. If it were me, the easiest spot would be the chessboard. It's a dead end and has no traffic running through to other areas. (option two would be the mudpit but I am guassing that may be the new wench home)
It would also make sense to run a few more events in the joust field just to keep traffic there. I would think that the highland games would be included in that. Maybe somebody is doing a variation on the sword school.

"Adult Area" and no Pubs....I don't get it...Apart from those savvy folks who know about BYOB, I don't believe anything is out there to make the general public aware of that fact...(or it could be, I just haven't come across it) SO...I'm still somewhat....confused...except for the fact that it will get Axel away from the Food Court and the families and he can do his bawdy shows without the public complaining...which I understand...I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

And that will be exactly the point of this. It gets the shows that are objectionable out of earshot of the passing kids. (Many parents still are very protective about what the tots are hearing and have been turned off in the past by shows that were closer to R in rating than the posted PG)
Plus it will give an outlet to certain performers who have wanted to do their adult theme shows but currently can't because of their stage locations.
Personally, I think the lot of you put too much focus on a need for Pubs. It is entirely possible to have fun without one.

Have to agree with ya Blueguy. This is what now, year three of NO PUBS? So I would think anyone other than a first time newbie knows to BYOB. And hell, it's cheaper that way. Like most places that serve alcohol, it was way over priced. So by bringing your own it gives you more money to spend on other things.
I for one like the ADULT area idea. I'm sick and damn tired of everything geared toward a five year old. Beside, if any parents object to things their kids hear at faire I would say, be sure of what your kids are downloading on their PC or smart phone. You'd probably be shocked.
HANK.

Pubs are about a lot more than just drinking (shocking fact, I know...but true) It is a place to meet up and socalize and have a nice background of music...now that just takes place at certain Vendor tents and some are less likely to move around the Faire...not to mention...I liked Connie and Michelle...and I miss seeing them and talking to them. Pubs + music gave the Faire a more believable "Medieval" atmosphere, IMHO. *shrugs* It is what it is....

I'm thrilled with the idea of an adult area. Our kids are almost always with us at faire and I really don't want them hearing the more bawdy stuff. But I figure if they accidentally overhear something in passing they won't understand it, and if they can understand any of it, we need to be having a talk anyway. I know that some parents don't think that way and this will keep the performers from getting hassled. And my husband and I just take turns being with the kids so we can see the adult shows.
