We had a blast on Saturday! Fellt like a normal faire day. Much more so than opening weekend. Fun and entertaining. Especially hilarious was the Slash & Broon show. But we had fun everywhere we went Saturday. Didn't get out of there until 9. Sunday was a bit more laid back for us. The heat took more of a toll on me than I thought Saturday. I felt fine all day. And all night Saturday night. But when I woke up Sunday, I wasn't quite right. Nothing major, but just felt something was a little off. Think it was just a touch of heat exhaustion. So I made sure I got extra fluids all day. And I ate a lot more. Opting for a lot of small meals throughout the day. We also left early. Around 6. It was just so hot and humid. Didn't want to push things too far. Still not completely back to normal, but improving. Working in a hot factory doing manual labor doesn't do much ot improve things. I really liked the tweaks they made between weekends. Things seem to flow a bit better now. Getting the Birds-of-Prey tent out of the way and over to the Mud Pit area was good. I like the new schedule better. But I worry about how much of a toll it will take on our cast. Some of them have to run through this gauntlet 12:30 - Dance 1:30 - Parade 2:15 - Chess 3:00 - Dance 4:30 - Checkers That's a lot of activity, and a lot of sun, during the hottest part of the day. So, I hope the cast are taking care of themselves as much as they can.

Sunday?. Really?. It was very quiet on my end. A lot less active due to heat. I had a blast but it was more low key. Saturday was one of my favorite days in the past couple of seasons. The santa coat is being re-cut into a more pirate style jacket and I will be finding a reason to wear it again next season. One thought on themes... Anybody else think there might be some draw in opening with a more popular weekend and shifting in the quirky ones later?. I was thinking barbarian or celtic weekend would make a stronger draw at the gate than our opener. Met and re-met several folks from here I don't normally get to spend time with, very happy about that as well. Now for week 3...the heat is gonna be back up on the 9p degree range and humidity will be worse. Thunder and light rain are adding to it as I post. Start increasing your fluids on thursday and friday. Whatever you carry to drink from, arrive with it full of water and drink that in the first hour. It will also help those with a taste for special beverages if you cut back 25 to 30 percent on your consumption. Anybody starts feeling woozy, can feel free to flag me down. I will gladly run and fetch something for you. I'm used to the heat and it doesn't seem to hit me as hard since I miss the first couple of hours.

One thought on themes... Anybody else think there might be some draw in opening with a more popular weekend and shifting in the quirky ones later?. I was thinking barbarian or celtic weekend would make a stronger draw at the gate than our opener. I don't think it would help. Opening weekend has always been light. So, I think the thinking is, that they don't want to waste one of the more popular themes on a weekend with a notoriously low draw. They used to think it was because opening was on 4th of July weekend. But it has been moved from that for several years now. And I still don't see opening gaining much ground.

It doesn't matter what the first weekend theme is, no one knows the faire is going on anyway, hence, no crowds. Oh sure, us die hards know, but the average patron doesn't. Why? lack of advertisement by management. Think about it, they did not even have fliers to pass out till the first weekend. Oh sure, they were on a couple of radio ads, but with XM radio, MP-3 players, I-pods, and music on your cell phone that folks have access to these days, how many people really even heard those ads?
If you want attendance at an event you're putting on, people HAVE to know about it. You cannot make it a super top secret hush hush Seal Team 6 covert operation. People have to know about it.
As it stands now, you could have the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders performing naked on the Drift Inn stage handing out 50 dollar bills and attendance wouldn't be any better.

well, yeah. But they would schedule it opposite the Owain shows and nobody there would attend anyhow.
I was not thinking first weekend per se. but second weekend for a major event weekend. first weekend should be a big enough deal on it's own... provided people know it is going on. You use what advertising you can afford, couple it with calling every reporter you can find to do a story on the faire starting up, hit up the weekend section editors a second time for that and let word of mouth from first weekend accelerate second weekend attendance with celts or pirates. then week three grabs a solid theme to keep momentum and week 4 is great for yule or another silly weekend with a strong week 5 and Last chance advertising for week 6.
Alright, the rain mostly missed the site last night. It only dropped about a 10th of an inch. Just enough to dampen things and put some humidity in the air. Since I am about the closest to the site, I'll keep an update on moisture levels through the week.

I only was there Sunday but... Some postive 2nd week shout outs because there isn't enough postive reinforcement in the world:
* Thanks to Donna (is that her name?) the blonde chick who used to work the souvenier stand who now takes tickets? She looks at my pass and gives me a hug every time. Others folks mentioned that they miss her spirit at her previous stand. In my opinion, I feel happy to see her even before I step in the faire so her new post works for me.
* Thanks to a certain playtron and vendor for knowing who I am. I wont name names but their initials are Hank and Higgins. Both conversations went.: "I think I know you, what's your name?" "Hi, I'm Rachel." "Who?" "Um...Ivy Woodwings." "Oh yeah, I know you, hello!"
* Thanks again to Trevor for without this forum those conversations would not have happened.
* Thanks to cast who is performing under a difficult schedule even during these warmer days. Thanks again to Chelsea who sees and understands that.
Best of all thanks to Barbiel Saunders of Silent Lion. She found me in the lanes to tell me my brother John was sick during their show. She and her husband helped to take my brother to the First Aid Tent.
As much as we made the Privy Fae the unsung heroes of the faire last weekend, I'm hoping we can do the same with the First Aid staff this weekend.

Yes, be totally grateful to the first aid volunteers. (and Ben in cast). They are doing great things for us because they like it here.

Did anyone get pictures of Johnny's adult show from Sunday of second weekend? Someone I know is looking for some, as her friend was on stage for that show.

That would be the the other Johnny that was onstage. If it shortens the search, it would be the same show as my santa outfit. (and I was told some of those ended up on the Johnny Phoenix facebook page).
