Capt. Your job is the exception, and not the rule. In my entire working career I NEVER worked anyplace that we got Columbus Day off. And most folks I've spoken with are in the same boat.
SO! If you've gotten the day off. God bless ya! Drink a beer and think of the rest of us poor workin stiffs to whom it's "just another day on the job." Not me, I'm retired. Everyday is pretty much a day off.

Since the Museum is closed to the public on Monday usually, we tend to follow the "If the Banks and Post Office are off, so are we..." but that's not to say that the museum was empty on Monday. Staff can come in and work if they choose and we have Case Western Reserve University that uses our lecture halls for classes...so if Case is in session and it's a "Monday Holiday" we are not in "lock down" mode (which would be the case if it were say...the 4th of July or Labor Day) we were not open to patrons but we were open to staff and classes. Since we have a major exhibition going on during the holiday season, the Monday after Christmas that we would normally get off...we don't...because the Museum will be opened for the exhibition. The rules here are kinda like the rules for spelling in the English language...
"I before E except after C...Weird"
As it was, Monday past was spent driving home from Southern Ohio and then raking leaves and doing yardwork at Dwyn's Dad's place....and belive me...those trees (all 2.8 acres of em') haven't even begun to change color! OY!

You raise an interesting question, who the hell ever came up with that I before E except after C rule anyway? There are so many exceptions it's ridicules: Weird, height, weight, etc, etc.
Well, if ya like rakin leaves, I guess ya had a fun day. Ya know, you could volunteer at GLMF next Spring. They have lots of leaves ya can rake, I know.
