On the issue of the "once every 10 years" curse-- They cut a scene from the movie when Tia Dalma/Calypso and Davy Jones were talking. It was supposed to be a longer scene with them going over how the curse could be broken. In my opinion, the editors were completely stupid to cut it as it leaves all these questions up in the air. The curse could be broken if, during the 10 years Will was away, Elizabeth stayed completely loyal to him. This is why Davy Jones got angry at Calypso, because she did not stay loyal to him in those 10 years-- "It's in my nature" or something like that. Elizabeth did, however, remain loyal. The Flying Dutchman's curse is confirmed to be broken when that flash of green light is seen, being a sign of a soul returning to the Earth. If Calypso had greeted Davy Jones after his ten years of ferrying dead souls, then he would have been freed of his duty. Thus, Will is freed of his captaincy of the Flying Dutchman as Elizabeth remains faithful to him ten years later and greets him when he returns. So, the curse is broken.

OK guest....Just where the hell did you come by this information? Are you the director or something? Not saying you're wrong mind you, but since the movie has only been out for a week and we have no "directors cut" with all the deleted scenes I am kinda curious just how you know all this. HANK

Hank. This kind of info is always all over the net. Now I don't know for sure if this is fact, but I will ask Brit. She is more into the movie than I am, and is more networked about it than me. But even I have a few sources I could check to confirm this if I had the time to bother.

HANK Hank- As someone who has felt rather tortured by the ending for the past couple days (to love someone so much and only see them once every 10 YEARS?? Ack!), I spent some time this afternoon searching for info. I found a couple fan sites where bigger geeks than I spend every free minute combing the web/trade publications/interview transcripts/etc. for Pirates-related news, and several had the same story -- that the directors said the green flash was Will's soul, and Elizabeth's faithfulness had ensured his return to the world. It was/will be more fully explained in a deleted scene. (And really, of ALL the scenes to delete.... )

Hank (and other who might be curious)- Here is a link to the screenwriters' (Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio) website. www.wordplayer.com/If you cruise around their "Movie Forums", you'll see oodles of questions about the ending...and Ted and Terry have actually replied to a couple threads. Evidently "Guest" has it right - the green flash is supposed to be Will's soul, and also - I missed this - his shirt is now white, like a symbol of purity/rebirth or some such thing. Pretty darned subtle, if you ask me. Some interesting stuff on that board, though.

Hey thanks for the info. I agree about the shirt. I did not notice it either and I have seen it twice already! I will have to pay more attention.

I was wrong. The necrophilia was not in wedlock. Till death us do part, after all.

And I just thought DJ was mad because he shows up after 10 years and his girl is out galavanting around and he wasn't going to get any.
