ok, so im trying to figure out what the musical for next year is going to be, our director has answered SOME of our questions but were still having trouble. here are the clues we have
1.) male heavy cast 2.) LOTS of dance 3.) does not have to do with a red flag (?) 4.)if we knew exactly when it took place it would give it away 5.) written within the last 30 years 6.) only semi-popular
and thats all we have so far, if anybody has any ideas please tell me!!!

1776. Bet you money. I love that show.
1.) male heavy cast - only two females in the entire thing 2.) LOTS of dance - never thought of it, but I guess 3.) does not have to do with a red flag (?) 4.)if we knew exactly when it took place it would give it away - 1776, the year of American independence; set in the weeks leading up to the Declaration 5.) written within the last 30 years - written for the Bicentennial 6.) only semi-popular - hey, I like it

Okay...ummm..."A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum"? (I just love that one!)

The Scarlet Pimpernel?
if the (?) after the red flag comment was b/c you're not sure what a red flag is in relation to...the red flag mean Les Miserables, which is a heavy male show with lots of dancing...but has almost everything to do with a red flag...

South Pacific.
That's the only musical that a lot of schools are able to do on their budgets and alotments that I know of that has all of those features. But then again, I could be wrong.
Oh wait . . . last 30 years. Hmm. Okay maybe I don't know.

mm... the wee hours of the morning have brought a cry concerning music theatre to my ears...
okay...
male heavy cast: possibilities: Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, The Wild Party (but i doubt a high school would do that...)A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Jeckyll and Hyde
Lots of dance: Fiddler, West Side, Joseph, and Wild Party have lots of dance, hands down... H2S and Forum have some dance, but i wouldnt say *LOTS*.
No Red Flag: yeah, i would say that this would pertain only to les mis... which actually(sorry eric) doesnt have much dance at all.
if you knew when it took place: West Side, Joseph, Jeckyll and Hyde, and Forum are really the only ones that are *REALLY* time-specific. maybe fiddler and h2s could fit too...
Last 30 years: all the shows ive mentioned are contemporary
semi-popular: well... that knocks out Joseph, West Side, and possibly fiddler. although... popularity is subjective and so this is an arbitrary hint.
alot of high school show selections can be deciphered when looking at show history (what shows your high school has done), the amount of funding, the amount of talent, the number of people involved with productions, etc. etc... so if you could fill us in on that, that would help too! if you find out any other restrictions, post them! this is fun!
man, i *heart* music theatre

I wonder . . . . Superstar? Maybe? Jesus Christ Superstar?
Or maybe one of the other not-as-well-known shows by Webber? Like Starlight Express?
Hmm . . .
Quite a puzzler.

well, restrictions would be no shows dealing with religion (our board is very strict)
talent, we have a pretty big cast (maybe 60 or so available) and most of them are pretty good
funding....heh, thats a problem sometimes. we usually end a show in the red but pull through eventually.
and she said that looking at the show history wouldnt help
