I was just listening to Led Zepplin, so it seemed like a good title for a thread. Sir Geoffry, you say that there is to be only 1 specialty act each weekend this year? I must say you are more in the know now than I ever have been. I admit my sources were found out and eliminated by The Powers That Be when their treachery was discovered. Not so violent a dismissal, mind you, but a quiet, entropic process of non-communication and ostracization.
So what great failure do we have in store this year? Less entertainment? Smaller cast? Less shopping? How about higher gate prices for less content? I'm sorry, am I being negative?
I guess I can't help it when I look at the place I grew up and see it turned into the ghetto slum of the Ren Faire circles.
Well, ta ta, friends.
And oh, yes, I did actually see Richard at the Claddagh Pub. It's too bad that more of you couldn't have been there. Especially Brook or Larry - to see just what a wonderful and rare talent they let slip through their fat, greedy, jelous, and wrathful fingers.
May fortune favor the foolhardy . . .

Yes...it is hard to be positive about the direction of the faire when it has been such decline in recent years.
TPTB clearly has lost thier passion for the faire and seems to just be going through the motions. This faire needs new ownership, an owner willing to invest into it like TPTB used to.
GLMF is small but what better setting could it be? Even Owain Phyfe and Lady Paula have said that there is no other faire they have performed at that has a more perfect setting as GLMF. TPTB can't even use it to thier advantage.
I don't know if you heard about TPTB's contract snafu which shifted all the vendors schedule a week later than they agreed to, so I don't know what is going to happen on the first weekend or last weekend. I mean..does it take much intelligence to look ahead on a calendar and find out the date for the fourth of July weekend?
I haven't heard much on cast, so I will reserve my judgement until opening day.
At least the theme is back to normal...Robin Hood...it doesn't hurt to do it once every few years.
The only continuing positive about faire is wearing new garb the wife made and just hanging out with friends.
I wish I could have seen Richard at the pub, but meetings kept me from going. You're correct...he was a core member of the GLMF and is an accomplished musician...who is local...and TPTB say "We don't need you".
Shame...

I mean..does it take much intelligence to look ahead on a calendar and find out the date for the fourth of July weekend? To be fare Joe. That wasn't really a snafu. The old contracts were handed out at the end of last season. TPTB decided to change the opening weekend (Larry has been wanting to do this for a long time and finally decided to try it) The only real snafu was not contacting all the already contracted vendors before putting the new dates on the website. As for not investing more money into the faire. I know as of last season, they still couldn't build anything new because of the legal battles with the trustees. Which has to be sucking up a lot of money. The constant legal actions have probably siphoned away money that would have otherwise been put to better use to pay acts and staff, and other good things for the faire. Hopefully with some new trustees being voted in last fall, that will start to go to the way-side. Especially considering the trustees have lost every case they have started so far. Not really trying to defend TPTB, just playing devils-advocate, and stating the veiws of someone that tries to see the better side of things. I have no real insight into the workings, or the thinking of Larry and the rest of the staff. I just like to belive that most of them really are doing what they think is best

Regardless of the legal issues Larry has been dealing with should not affect the quality or quantity of the acts, entertainment, etc...of the faire. It is just an poor excuse IMHO.
