Steven's audition (Saturday) went well. It seemed like they could have used more help-especially with measurements. I was helping for a short time-there was only ONE measuring tape. I had an LSB (nerve block) done right before we took Steven. We went right from the hospital; lest I would have stayed longer. It seemed a waste of time to measure everyone who was auditioning-it makes more sense to me to measure the cast members after they are chosen. Or-have more than one measuring tape available.

I was a last minute decision to do measurements and I only had one tape with me. Also, everyone showed up at once which made it a little more hectic.
And usually, everyone who auditions gets to participate, unless there is some major conflict of interest. That's why we did measurements.

It does seem like it would be more efficient. Measure at auditions so people don't have to be called back just to get measured.

Maybe next year you can post for volunteers to assist in making the process flow more evenly. I would be more than happy to assist with measurements or whatever is needed. As with anything-we learn as we go!

THe reason for measuring is fairly simple. Although the cast is still responsible for their costumes, we help them out by telling them what patterns to buy and what fabric to use. That way we get a "uniform" look to everyone and the cast will look better as a whole. Last year was our first go at it and we got more complements on merely how everyone looked than we ever have. It also made a drastic improvement in some of the shyer kids confidence.
So anywho, measureing them means I can make patterns for specific pieces that you can't buy at Jo-anns!!!
Oh, more people showed up than those who made appointments, which is a good thing but made things kinda crazy. Next year, I will be recruiting more help!!!
