Trevor, I tried to log in under my usual name and password, and I'm listed as logged in, but I'm not. The board keeps telling me I'm a guest and I need to log in, but when I try, it doesn't do anything. What is the problem? And how do I fix it?
I recently changed the skin in my profile, (that's how I know I wasn't logged, because it still showed the default skin), would that have anything to do with whatever is going on?

Apparently it's not the skin. I just tried to sign to another proboard forum I'm a member of, and had exactly the same problem. Guessing it's either the computer I'm using, or proboards. Hope it's something that can be fixed.

Apparently it's a problem with the browser. I was using IE, now I'm using Netscape. Still don't understand why. I'll try tomorrow at the library, they also have IE. I'll find out if it's IE, this computer's relationship w/ IE, or if IE is just having a bad day with the proboards. Stay tuned!

Try clearing the cache and cookies. Sometime cookies become corupt and do goofie things. Like not logging you in other odd things.

Thank you for the advice, Trevor. I tried clearing out the cookies and temp internet files several times, even doing a restart afterwards. Also checked and rechecked the password. The only thing that worked was switching browsers, fortunately that computer has Netscape as well as IE. Today I'm on the library computer with IE and everything's fine. Not sure if IE was having a bad day or it was that particular computer. Hoping it was a temporary glitch, or maybe internet gremlins! Will find out tomorrow. The saga continues!

Which version of IE are you running? Might have to run a repair on it. I know with my version 5.5 occasionally it will do goofie things and I will have to run the IE repair tool.

Well, I'm back on the same computer, and have the same problem. So I'm on Netscape again, and it looks like I'm going to be using it for awhile until this problem is cleared up. Don't know which version of IE it is. Have to check, and see if I can locate that repair tool you mentioned. Had been working fine with the proboards until Wed. Will keep you posted.

Well with my version 5.5 in windows 98SE it is located in
start - programs - accesories - system tools - system information
When in there, I select the 'tools' tab. The first one on the list is internet explorer repair tool.
Don't know if it will help with what you are running, but it might at least give you an idea on where to poke around.

I installed the updated version of IE. But that didn't help, unless I didn't do it right. Then I did what you suggested, the only tool I found was the Net Diagnostics. So I did the scan, and the only problem was the following:
No idea what that means, or if it has anything to do with what's wrong. I'm just going use Netscape for awhile until my boss gets back in town and sorts it out. I'm afraid I might make things worse.

Yikes!! Ya lost me with all this talk of caches and cookies and other things. Sounds like Morgan got her problems worked out, so now the Gremlins came over to visit you. Good luck, I hope you get it solved. If all else fails...A ten pound sledge will solve any and all computer problems. Hope it doesn't come to that. HANK.
By the way! Whats a difficutie???

Apparently the gremlins have departed, as mysteriously as they appeared. I just signed in on IE. Why it's working now, and why it didn't work before will remain mysteries to me. Maybe the new version of IE finally kicked in. Who knows, I'm just glad I don't have to fight with it anymore.
