Just curious if anyone has heard anything about the prospects of this returning this year.

Yeah, I heard from several people at pub sing closing day that it had been given the green light that day. I have not heard anything official yet either, or any details.

(activates cranky old guy rant mode, you have been warned). Somebody needs to get their butt in gear and set these plans when there is still time to advertise and possible recruit staff while people are on the grounds. And I do NOT mean simply sticking up a sign with zero details. There should be a sign with dates and times, staff should be able to answer questions ( such as if the event is taking place and general information), flyers would not hurt either. Nobody is showing up strongly on word of mouth, it should not need to rely on patrons as the main advertising, even if we do make a point to do so. Attendance will only swell IF people know the event is taking place. (ok, done cranking).

Yeah. I hear you. Now this is just my personal supposition with no actual facts or even much grapevine chatter.
But from what I have gathered, the faire has been very thin on cash. Especially to start the season off. It is the reason that some things did not get done, or get fixed before the gates opened. With this in mind, I am betting that they weren't even sure if they could afford to give Halloween Knights a shot this year until they took a look at the books towards the end of this season.
I do hope they do a better job of getting the word out this year and bring some people in to enjoy Halloween Knights. If they can get the attendance up to somewhere near a break-even point it would be great for a 2nd year. I firmly believe that a good number of the new attendees for this season of faire, came from people who saw the grounds for the first time on the haunted hay ride. IF they can get HK established, then they could get some good symbiosis going between the 2 events.

Begging your pardon, but is this event just a haunted hay ride or is the entire village open for it? Also, if I may, how much did it run last year?
I had my first visit to your faire the other week and would love to have another taste of it again if at all possible.

It may give you an idea of what Halloween Knights is. Keep in mind that the attractions may change or even characters through out the village, plus ticket pricing. Halloween Knights was re-invented just last year so there is still some tweaking going on. www.medievalfaire.com/halloween.htm

Thank you so much, Kat, that is a great help. I see that food, vendors and pirates were there but there is one thing I'm not entirely clear on... did it still have that renn faire atmosphere through this event or was that sacrificed for the standard chainsaw toting, hockey mask wearing, mass murdering types?
I'd happily make the hour drive for a haunted renn faire. I can get chainsaws around the corner though.

Grouser-Last year we did things with Classic horror mainly. Frankenstein, Dracula, 18th century witches, burning at the stake. The chainsaws were for the darken path and at the end. we had zombie pirates. I'm not sure what's going on this year. But I think we try to do something different than all the other haunted houses and hayrides. There should be more information soon. I hear it's a go? I haven't really heard anything on my end yet. But here's a video one of our cast member's fiance's made for us last year. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wChRpAHffyQ

I can only tell you what I saw last year at Halloween Knights. The main road leading into the shire was open from the gate to town square. There were a few vendors, and some food vendors. On the big concrete slab (to your left, just after you come in the gate) was where the haunted house was set up. There was also a haunted maze where the maze is (next to Johnny Phoenix's stage) The rest of the shire was closed off for the hay ride. The hay ride consisted of several different scenes set up in various locations. Involving props and live actors. Along the darkened path between these scenes there were also other that would run out of the woods at you and such. It was a nice mix of drama and "startle factor". Last year you could go in for free, but had to purchase admission to each of the attractions.
As mentioned, last year was the first year in a long time that this was held, So I am sure things will be adjusted, tweeked, and redone for this year. Things that didn't work will be changed to something that may work better.
As for medieval feel. No, not really. Though it was nice to be out in the woods at night in October with other holiday lovers. Hopefully this year it won't rain every weekend like it did last year.

Thank you both for your replies. I'll keep my eyes on both this and the GLMF site for further information.

All I know is, at this moment NOTHING is set up for Halloween. They are still taking down the overhead signs, putting away the pirate statues and getting all the benches put away. So if they are doing the Halloween thing it is going to be a last minute affair getting the place set up for it. That is if they are planning on doing all the weekends in October like they did last year. So! can't tell ya, Don't know! HANK.

We would be interested in working it or attending the Halloween Knights this year. I have performed at the Lake Farmparks Haunted Hayrides...even though those were kid-friendly...I also drove around a golf cart and provided hot chocolate & coffee to the scene actors & prop people, I also have been on props as well. Keep us posted on it!
