Just to get some official confirmation either way, I called the faire this morning. I talked to Courtney, who is on staff, and she did say the pubs are not open this year.

Ok. So, if I am reading this correctly. The trustees want half of all the money from beer sales since the faire and the VFD went their seperate ways in 2003. Even though the township itself failed to renew it's contract with the VFD in 2004. Effectively putting them out of business. And they also seem to be claiming that they are entitled to 50% of all beer sales for as long as the faire exists.
Boy. They have some big ones, don't they.

Does anyone else find it ironic that this quote is on the Trustee's Page of the Trumbull Township Web Site?
"To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity". -- Donald A. Adams.
Talk about a group of people who totally do NOT reflect this sentiment...

I may not know much about the Law, however there seems to be one major, notable point of interest that is constantly skirted around in this entire document-
There fire and rescue services referenced have not been in operation for some time, due to the actions and decisions, or lack there of, of the township trustees. They repeatedly state that these organizations, which no longer exist, are entitled to money, as well as the township.
Is it just me, or is this entire grievance, at best, full of holes?

It seems to me the trustees strategically planned the timing of when they filed this grievance - as evidenced by the July 1st date. They knew it would cause a legal tie-up, thereby causing monetary damage to Larry/ the faire owner. Note the plaintiffs as the Twp board, along with the non-existent INVOLUNTARY fire dept. Can anyone in the township produce a voluntary fire person> IS there a truck? a garage to house the truck? are there regular fund raisers ie. bake sales, bingo to support a VFD? If no, as seems to be the case, then this grievance is void. But the trustees know that things take time to work through the legal system, hence their timing.
Just me thinking out loud.......Comments welcome!

I was out at faire today doing some last minute work that required my attention and I spoke with some people from the front office. I will mention no names, but these folks DO know what is going on around there. So to answer some questions raised by Blueguy in reply 44 this is what I was told.
Faire IS NOT going to turn into the Peoples Republic of Blossom Music Center. There will be NO strip searches! On the other hand, if you think you are going to roll in with a wagon full of beer kegs, pulled by twelve Clydesdale's, well.....ya got another think coming!
To digress from the topic for a moment, I just realized something. Faire runs for 96 hours. 8 hours a day, for 12 days. I have already put in close to 140 hours getting the place ready. I might as well just take a cot and sleep there. Save me a lot of money on gas.
HANK.

The amended version was filed with the court on July 1 2009Not sure when the first amendment was filed, as this says it's the second. The original complaint was filed in 2008 though. As indicated by the case # 2008 CV 0925

For what it's worth re the timing: I first heard about this issue from my mother, a long-time Faire supporter and patron, who called me either Tuesday or Wednesday of last week after hearing an ad for the Faire on the local radio station (airing in Warren). The ad referenced the event as a "family-friendly, alcohol-free event."
Don't know how much time elapses from when an ad is recorded and when it airs, but this had to have been something that was brewing (if you'll pardon the very bad pun) prior to the latest filing date of July 1.

Greetings all! All I can say is.......Pipers Pub! I would think they are going to need more staff this run! Also, do the trustees (Boy, you get to the point where you really wonder why you call them that.) think that they are going to hurt anyone but themselves?
I am looking forward to seeing everyone, Bless you all, we will show them that this won't stop anything. See you all soon! Allyn

Greetings beloved Avalochians! Late to the conversation, but piping in nonethless is your humble servant Olive the Ox Lady.
Be not unduly troubled, lads and lassies. Bags will not be checked, coming straight to my ears from the lips of our benevolent landlord Larry.
Trustees wanted too much from Larry this year for pub operations overseen by court, so Larry said, "No" to their demands, thus beer sales will not happen. Sadly, charities will not get the proceeds.
We will have wonderful days in Avaloch nonetheless. Do visit me and Pimento. We will have a lass named Brie with us this year, and sometimes Paul and Silas' nephew Dalton the baby bull calf or their niece Joannie the heiffer.
All the same fabulous foods you've come to relish and a grande garden in which to relax. Doggie rest area too.

You could always have a cooler in your trunk. And whatever you put in it you could go out to the parking lot and eat/drink it. But you couldn't take it into the faire because they want you to buy faire food, drink etc. Alot of people would just buy stuff at faire because it was right there and you didn't have to walk anywhere or get your hand stamped or anything. I know alot of people who do go the faire because alcohol is served. It's part of the ambiance. And you're right, pub sing won't be the same.

Tailgating will stink because it will deter from acts and shopping. I would hope that at the ticket booths, will call, and gates it is mentioned it is a dry faire, that way people can be aware before they walk in that they cannot obtain alcohol
