Was just thinking...Isn't it a sad state of affairs, when a few try to destroy something that means so much to so many? LONG LIVE AVALOCH!

Just checked out cleveland.com for any articles relating to this topic...GLMF is listed in "Best of Cleveland: Festivals to discover this summer" blog.cleveland.com/entertainment/2009/05/best_of_cleveland_festivals_to.htmlConsidering how there isn't a whole lot going on in NE OH, this is a big deal. As a lifelong Clevelander, I've long lamented the lack of arts & culture in this region...GLMF opened a whole new world for me that blossomed into an interest in historic costume, theatre, history, etc. Now I'm pursuing a career in fashion in NYC that might never have happened if I wasn't compelled to have a new costume every weekend. For thousands of other people in the area, I'm sure, it helped to expand imaginations in an region that can be repressive and narrow-minded. Other than that...all I can say is that compromise is probably in order here. If the residents of Trumbull Twp have genuine complaints with GLMF, than we need to work together to solve those issues. It's what democracy is all about! I mean, I assume if you live in the countryside of OH you probably moved there because you like things quiet, lonely, etc. And there is no excuse for grown adults who just come to the faire to get shitfaced and drive home drunk, that most certainly endangers the residents. On the other hand, if I was a resident of Trumbull Twp I would be proud to be from a part of the state that provides something other than strip malls and Applebee's--we're creating art here, culture, making the landscape of the area richer and more beautiful. GLMF is not just an awakening for painfully dorky teenagers to feel accepted for once, or a place for aging hippies to belt out some Fairport Convention tunes. It's theatre, it's music, it's dance, it's where many people from NE OH come to celebrate the summer and try to recapture the magic of lost age...face to face contact, live performance. Not to mention, in a state which is increasingly losing its youth to better job markets (myself included), wouldn't you want to make as many economic opportunities available as possible? And if this whole thing is just a personal vendetta from some douchebag local politician on a power trip, he needs to realize he was elected to represent the people and must properly respond to his constituent's needs.

And if this whole thing is just a personal vendetta from some douchebag local politician on a power trip, he needs to realize he was elected to represent the people and must properly respond to his constituent's needs. You just hit the nail on the head. Ron Tamburrino is the original attorney that filed a private lawsuit against the faire for a small group of citizens. John McMahan is one of the original plaintiffs in said lawsuit & Willis Clay - well to quote another resident who put it much more eloquently than I can "What a stupid old man" as his opinion flip flops depending on the moon. Fast forward to the current situation more than 10 years later & the result is 3 guys that are now elected officials and using taxpayer dollars to continue a personal vendetta. I'm sure there is sound basis for a complaint with the Ohio Bar Association at the very least as far as Tamburrino is concerned.............. my brain is full & I gotta make soap today ....... so that is tonight's middle of the night research project.

Those who stand for nothing fall for anything. ~Alexander Hamilton I am continually impressed by the organization and output of effort you have all shown and acted upon. It truly does show how much of a "family" we are and how we are there for each other in times of need. Life IS Faire!

A word of caution: Venting out loud and saying things about people on the other side of this issue may make you feel good, but can be harmful to the actual process. Get your facts straight before posting, this is a public board and those posts can be used against us later. Represent your own views, do not claim to speak for someone else. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I have spent alot of time correcting, advising, and otherwise trying to keep the movement on point this week. I mean to disrespect to anyone upset by this whole mess, but we all want the same result and calmer heads is what will win the day.
Your friend,
Larry Rabin

Mr. Rabin, this may be the first time I have agreed with you on much of anything.
Even in a thinking out loud context. we all need to watch our phrasing. If you really just need to vent, go shout the insults at your pillows or something. Then stop back and post the constructive and useful thoughts that went with those words.

Just an odd thought does anyone know where to get nice bumper stickers made cheaply. I was thinking that maybe if we had bumper stickers made that said We support The great lakes medieval fair made and passed them out to the patrons it might help people realize how much business the fair brings into the county.
