Evenso, if there are even only 20 to 30 additional ppl who buy from Trumble Meat Locker each week, and the faire is no more, then they're bound to feel a bit of a loss for 6 weeks out of the year. They may not realize it, themselves, but I'm sure they've come to depend on that extra *bonus* money each year! Ever since I started working at GLMF, I've made a point of visiting the Trumble Meat Locker each and every faire day! Grab a chocolate milk or OJ, a doughnut and a handful of their beef sticks. My favorite is the Cheddar. And, yes, that is where Olive gets them for the faire! They're the best! So imagine what a loss just her purchase alone will cause each weekend should she have no faire to supply! Huzzah! Long live the Trumble Meat Locker Beef Stick! Long live the Black Ox! Long live GLMF!!

Reminde them of the positives of the faire, and how it affects them. Remind county commissioners of all the tourism and money brought into the county. We draw people in from Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Columbus, etc. Remind state politicians that we draw our friends from Pittsbugh (many who attend our faire more than their own now) Michigan, Maryland. Heck, I even know people who come down from Canada to visit our faire. All these people bring money into our local economy. Not just at the faire. But at local gas stations, resturaunts, hotels, motels, campgrounds, and other local attractions. Just a walk through the parking lot can confirm that people from all over attend the faire. If it's not illegal, perhaps someone should think about taking photos of some of the out of state license plates at the faire tomorrow (with the license numbers blacked out on the actual photos, of course). People from more than one state away are most likely staying at a local hotel or campground, and are buying gas and food in the area, thus helping the local economy.

Sorry to hear that. Your kids would probably have fun there.
There is no cult. And I am no leader. I actually don't lead anything. I just provide a virtual gathering place for people to gather and talk about faire, life, and whatever else happens to interest them. I make the rules, and keep the peace here, but that is about the extent of it.
If you want a quick summary of what this particular forum is about, then here it is. For over a decade now, certain people in Trumbull Township offices have been trying to shut down the Great Lakes Medieval Faire through litigation. They have lost all their court cases to date, and have exhausted their appeals. Now they have switched tactics. They are attacking the vendors that set up at GLMF. Again, using dubious legal means. Many of these vendors are friends of ours. We have gotten to know them over the years, and do not like to see them being treated like this. As such we are just kicking around ideas on what we can possibly do to help them. If you think we are crazy for exercising our constitutional right to free speach, and our right to protest what we believe to be unfair acts. Then maybe we are crazy. And I am all right with that. I would rather speak up, and stand by my friends in a lost cause. Than just sit idly by and do nothing, and say nothing.
Trust me. We would all much rather be talking about the fun we had at faire, and the fun we plan on having in the future, than talking about stuff like this.

Well spoken, Trev! And if this is crazy, I'm proud to be keeping the company of nuts!

Hehe.. Take a look at the definition of "cult". Catholicism is a cult. A really big, popular one at that.
But I digress....
No sheriffs around this weekend that I know of... Perhaps those tax dollars are being spent fighting crime instead....
However, did anyone else notice the lack of police care at the entrance this morning? I think this is the first time I didn't see the flashing lights during the first half of a Faire day..

I was a slacker today, got to the faire about 12:30. When I came in there was 1 police car near the entrance, with the lights on. Allyn

Hello fellow crazies! Yes, I am totally crazy! Crazy about the faire, crazy about the people at the faire, crazy about those smiling, laughing children who want to meet a pirate! I met some fellow crazies yesterday and they didn't even work at the faire! I showed Larry's letter to them and they went crazy! They even questioned the sanity of the trustees of "THEIR" township! They, who LIVE in Trumbull Township! I won't elaborate on all of their comments, but suffice it to say they were appalled to know their tax dollars were being wasted on frivolous court cases when they can't even afford to keep a "Volunteer" fire department, and, their township is in need of so many other things, AND because they love and look forward to enjoying GLMF every year! By the time we had finished our conversation, they had decided to talk to their neighbors, go to the various surrounding businesses from the Interstate, in, and are planning to show up to the trustee meeting! Oh yeah, these people went crazy! But they're crazy about "THEIR FAIRE"! Their words, not mine.

They aren't always there right when faire opens. There usually isn't a mad crush right at 10 o'clock, so not a big deal. I saw one walking around today. But I am almost positive he was just there as the normal extra security like we always have.

Chris (soap genius) told me Sunday morning that the sherriff was finished handing out citations. Last weekend was it, there will be no more.

Missed you all this weekend, but will be back for the finale...and definitely hoping that this will only be closing weekend, not closing for good. Has anyone heard any reply to letters or emails? Got some letters sent and working on sending more, fax, email, whatever I can do. How do things stand at the moment? Are people listening? What about local business owners? Does anyone know what they are saying? I know that the owners of the motel where hubby and I stay are planning to attend the meeting. We got them season passes when we first starting staying there, and they are now "regulars" too. Keeping the positive thoughts going!

Ah, we are called crazy now are we..? Sometimes I think that people just randomly peruse through forums and blogs and post junk because they have nothing better to do. I am with Jezz, most children love the faire and if this poster was real and true, it would be a shame to keep your children from having fun because you may not feel that this topic completely explains what is going on with the township trustees. I think the bigger picture is this, when you have people in power that cannot stand a business that has been entertaining the masses for over 14 years that is crazier than what we "rennies" do. If we even completely understood how a trustee and a prosecutor can completely ignore House Bills and statutes that have been in place prior to their new "resolution" made in the end of June of this year, maybe this forum would make a lot more sense to the "mundane" people out there. Why the trustees are doing this is a great question, here are some options; Can it be they do not like establishments that sell alchohol? No, not when there are more wineries in Ashtabula County than I have ever seen in any other area that holds a faire, not to mention a bar on just about every corner in that area. Can it be they do not like "transients"? Has the area ever had a carnival? (I personally think the renaissance faire has more class than a carnival) Can it be they do not like tourists in their area? Well, they aren't very far from Geneva on the Lake that makes hundreds of thousands of dollars off of temporary vending and servicing to tourists every year and the folks there are certainly okay with that. Can it be the traffic? Well, let's see, we have been almost run down by tons of local traffic in that area - people who think hitting cars and animals is a badge they wear and never have any of those drivers turned into the faire driveway. So, to the person who thinks we are crazy...go to the township trustee meeting Thursday night, ask what their problem is with the faire and listen to the control freaks that run the township...now that is crazy!

Though I haven't been at the Faire much this year due to other obligations, I've tried to catch up as much as possible on this forum.
You ask, why are the trustees doing this? My question is this: what big-money interest wants the land, and for what purpose? Another over-priced retail strip mall or gated community? A developer who doesn't feel he/she is getting their "cut" of local land usage?
Disclaimer...the following is my opinion only, and my "thinking out loud." Take it for what it's worth:
It seems to me that there is a larger motive behind this than going after "all those crazy people who play in the woods." That has been tried before, to no avail. This new ploy strikes me as a way to force management to want to give up by making it too difficult for the faire to attract and retain quality merchants, performers, etc..
And I can tell you that word is out about this...when I was at Pennsic, a woman who sells CDs for a music group that doesn't even perform at GLMF asked me WHAT the heck was going on in Ohio when she learned I was from the area. I fear that this area and this fair, specifically, could get a reputation of being more trouble than it's worth for many of the vendors...which may be exactly what the folks behind this latest attack is really going for.
