And that's why I don't do killer hot foods. Just not that into pain! Or, not in my foods, at least! ;D ;D ;D

Dill...You would be correct, Wasabi I have never tried, but sushi I have, and I do like it. I am not much into "HOT" foods either. I like to taste what I am eating, not have my mouth go numb like when the dentist gives you a shot of Novocain. If the food taste that bad that you have to disguise the taste with hot sauce maybe you should not be eating it in the first place! HANK.

Got to agree! A little heat is fine....in fact, I just made a pasta salad and added a touch of pickled cactus - mildly spicy - for a bit of a kick. Just a little, tho....as you said, I like to taste what I'm eating!
And yeah, I did say pickled CACTUS. I'm one of those people who like to try different stuff..............................besides, I AM the PICKLE Goddess!

Add me to the list of no spicey foods. The hotest that I like is Dairy Queens chili. Just spicey enough to get your attention, but not enough to cover the taste of the food.
Then again, I don't do A1 sauce either, as I actually like to taste my steak.

Where did I find pickled cactus? Umm....Parmatown Marc's. Out this way, most stores, and Marc's in particular, have a much bigger spanish item section than I was used to. Goya stuff, usually. It's fun to check it out and try stuff I've never seen before, like coconut pop! They have big ol' jars of the cactus relatively cheap...2 bucks, actully...among other intresting stuff. Good, too. the cactus, I mean. Long strips with a vaugely green olive flavor, and just a bit of burn. Good in salads ( pasta or green ), or on a roast beef sandwich.
Don't know about Geneva, but if your local Marc's doesn't carry it, any place that specializes in spanish foods should have it. Hope that helps!
And yeah, Trevor, I'm in total agreement about the steaks! The ONLY thing a good steak needs is a bit of salt and pepper, and...if you can't grill it....a hint of liquid smoke. Anything else - especially heavy, sweet marinades - ought to be against the law! I like my pineapple and guava in my fruit salad, thank you, NOT smeared all over a fine piece of beef!

Well, for me it is garlic and onion (not salt and pepper) to enhance the falvor of a steak. Not too much, but enough to notice.

Yeah, garlic and onion. Or some sauteed mushrooms. The main point here, as you said, is 'enhance', not 'smother under a ton of strong flavors'! I do a mean bleu cheese walnut butter that's great on steak....in very small amounts, because it's a really sharp flavor. Just a dab will do you!
Depends on what I'm in the mood for, really. That, and when I can actully AFFORD a steak! ( Been a while! ) Mostly, it is just a bit of sea salt and pepper, and the meat still bloody rare. Ummmmm..........................

For me it isn't so much affording a steak. It's the fact that I don't have any teeth keft to chew it

So Trevor, are you going to eventually get the teeth replaced, or go through life looking like the front row at a Willie Nelson concert? Do you have medical coverage from work or not?
HANK.

ok I have to know. WHERE in the world did you find pickled CACTUS?!?!?!?! that may be something I would like to try. Pickled cactus in a jar is sold at our Dollar General store in Geneva, it's in the aisle with the Mexican foods. It is a touch on the salty side, but makes a great addition to a salad as well as a nice add on to grilled meat. I'm surprised you've never seen it since I'm sure you are as frugal a grocery shopper as I am & must buy as least some of your groceries at Dollar General!

Intrestingly, the cactus is really good in a toasted cheese sandwich! Weird, but good. ;D

How in God's name did a rant thread turn into a spicy food hijacking? OMG. Anyways, I was going to comment on someone who posted as a guest saying that Joe acts like crap. Joe is my friend, and so are all those who were catagorized in like fashion, and I have fierce Irish loyalty. Someone wants to say something about him - come talk to me. I'll show you what crap really is. Joe - I hope you're coming to our live show this 28th of Feb., 'cause for you and those like you, we've got a special song to sing. That's all I have to say.
