I've only ever heard "The Parting Glass" sung by Tommy Makem/The Clancy Brothers. My VERY amateur musician's opinion is to hope that it doesn't get too slow and "mushy" when performed. The nice thing about HttC is that the chorus is very definite and strong (if that makes any sense). "The Parting Glass" is more of a story-song -- not that that is a bad thing, it just requires a lot more attention from the audience and the performers. So I was out Googling closing songs at other pub sings - just to satisfy my own curiousity - and found the following (not a suggestion, just a story). www-personal.umich.edu/~jeffshuo/2ktwmt.html Grab the tissues.

Sounds good to me Scott! It would be a neat thing. I'm glad there will be jousting. I still love watching it, after all these years. Are they jousters that are stage jousters or ones that compete? There are plus and minus to both kind.

This season, the cast will be taking the pub sing stage to help sing the final song. My thoughts however, are to bring in a different song for closing. You may know it. It's called The Parting Glass, and is a great ending tune. We'll see. Take care and hope to see some of you at the Auditions. scott Great choices. I love the idea of cast on stage for the closing of pub sing. In years past I could see using them in the audience. It helped fill things out and get people involved. I think now our pub sing is already pretty packed, and we have enough regular patrons to help get the rest of the crowd into it. I also think the choice of song is very fitting. Seeing how it is the closing pub sing, Parting Glass really does fit the moment.

I know the song "Parting Glass." I agree with CelticWench about it being a "story" song. I also agree that it is a lovely song.
With HTTC I liked that the cast and patrons were able to walk around, clink glasses and get everyone involved. You can't do that so much with "Parting Glass."
Maybe you could change up the songs. Use both of them. Maybe one for each day or one for each weekend. This way we will be able to hear both beautiful songs for the run of Faire. (Just my personal suggestion.)

I'm glad there will be jousting just not actors please, saw this type of joust at Pittsburgh one year and was totally and completely disappointed. I really love combat jousting. An oh no nerf weapons it is just sooo awful to watch and very ametuer. Jousting is what hooked me on faire the first time I came and I look forward to it every year.

As Scott already posted, we fully intend on having a joust. We are in negotiations with several jousting companies at this time. So just hold your horses and we will announce the joust team as soon as we finalize some things!!
Gideon: Rehearsals will begin MAy 10th, without Scott. Scott and I are co-directing the cast this year. I will start them off and when Scott returns from Tennessee he will jump in and we will create our magic as a team. I'm very much looking forward to it!!
P.S. There is some rumor going around that we are selling the Faire on our website. This is just a rumor . The only thing we are selling is ALOT of advanced tickets! So yeah for advanced ticket sales!
